I told myself I wasn't going to get any more ARCs, but I couldn't resist when I saw this cover. I thought it would be something different to read a story about a horse and its rider and the great love between them.

Yes, Axel had a girlfriend, but Poseidon was his soulmate. It's funny how the author, Axel's girlfriend, is a character in her book. I think it's creative nonfiction. I liked how it was set in the early 1990s, giving it a slightly historical feel.

First, Poseidon is burned in a stable fire. Then Axel has his own personal struggles when his childhood horse dies. But they must overcome this to win the championship...

The book was well-written from the descriptions to the suspense (especially at the big competition!). I could tell the author had great affection for Axel as he was described so beautifully, almost in a feminine way. She waxed poetry on the color of his eyes. Axel and Poseidon were compared to Pegasus and a Greek god a few times, but that was okay.

I wish there was an epilogue. Did Axel and Poisedon go on to win more championships?

All in all, this is a good heartwarming story of the love between a horse and its rider. I would love to see it turned into a movie.

Thanks to Hyunah for the ARC!

This was a good story about a man and a horse that became dependent on each other. Axel a painter but also a horse whisperer, Who met Poseidon a thoroughbred show jumping horse after a fire in the horses barn, where the horse was traumatized and wouldn't let anyone near him. The owner had heard of Axel and recruited him to work with the horse.
A very interesting story of the love and respect between the horse and Human.
I really enjoyed the story, although there were a few parts where I was a bit lost in what or why something was happening like I didn't really have the backstory.

CONTAINS SPOILERS

This is such a wholesome read.

The way the bond between horse and handler is described so beautifully.

Coming from an equestrian background myself I was worried that it was going to be the same plot line as every other horse story. I was partially right. Horse gets injured and someone bonds with the horse and voila and inseparable pair. But the story didn’t just stay focused on Poseidon and Axel, it was a mix of different characters point of views. It was interesting starting off with a champion and then the journey back to being a champion.

In some areas it felt like it didn’t flow right, but overall it was still a good read. Definitely got me out of a reading slump and I did enjoy it.
Also some of the terminology to me was off BUT it is set in a different country so I guess that could be a factor in the terminology differences.

A couple of events within the book (the show jumping event in the end!) had me on the edge of the seat, it was predicated but all the same I couldn’t stop!

All in all it’s a good read and I did enjoy it!

Axel is such an interesting and in-depth character. I love Axel’s gentleness and wish more guy characters were portrayed this way. Poseidon is written in such a way that the horse really reaches a realistic level of personality. He’s not just an animal. He had this whole set of conflict and emotion. With these two characters being so great, other cast felt like they served the role of being there to run the story. I would have liked more chapters or POV from both Axel and Poseidon. This is an adorable, beautiful tale. Honestly it reminds me of a book I got from the library when I was twelve and really enjoyed. This is an easy read for anyone and I believe it helps teach people the importance of compassion.
All things have souls. Thanks so much for having me as a Beta. I definitely enjoyed the story.

"Rise to the Horizon" by Hyunah Kim is a moving story about the connection between humans and animals. It's all about a horse named Poseidon who had a tough time after a fire at the ranch. He got hurt and scared, and people thought he might have to be put down. But then Axel, a horse whisperer, came to help.
Axel had a special gift because he grew up around horses. When Poseidon's owner, Martha, asked for his help, he said yes, even though the vet said it might not work. They worked together to help Poseidon heal, both physically and emotionally. The bond they formed was like magic.

The author tells the story in a way that's easy to understand, and it's a great book for people who love animals. "Rise to the Horizon" leaves you feeling hopeful and reminds you of the special connection between people and animals.

In the heartbreaking sequence of events, a devastating fire consumes a horse ranch, leaving Poseidon—once a magnificent show jumping horse—both physically and psychologically damaged.

Poseidon, who is now only a shadow of his former self due to trauma and aggression, receives a sombre recommendation from the veterinarian to put him to sleep.

Desperate for a miraculous intervention, Martha, Poseidon's owner, turns to Axel, a horse whisperer with a special talent for speaking with these magnificent animals. Axel, a painter by profession, was raised on his grandparents' stud farm and has a natural affinity for horses.

The human spirit's tenacity and the profoundly restorative power of love are highlighted in this literary work.

Rise to the Horizon is a beautiful story of connection and positive bond between a man and a horse. I really found this story extremely moving. I am an animal lover and I love horses in particular; they have a particular magic and beauty. Without a doubt, it is a novel that I recommend to all lovers of drama and romantic outcomes.
The characters are perfectly thought out and defined, the settings are perfect and so well conveyed by the author that one feels that she is clearly seeing those images that are usually typical of many romantic films.
It's a great story with the perfect addition that one of the protagonists is a wonderful horse.

Hyunah KIM is the author of “Rise to the Horizon,” a fiction book whose main protagonists are Poseidon, a horse, and Axel a young man who loves horses.
The story begins in the year 1992, when a fire, caused by a cigarette, burns down the stable where Poseidon is. The horse is injured and this causes his temperament to change. Some time later, he meets Axel and their lives change completely.
I really enjoyed this installment which tells the relationship between a man and an animal, and both of which are enhanced thanks to the other. I certainly recommend it to all animal-loving readers who enjoy an emotional read.

Rise to the Horizon by Hyunah KIM is an emotional novel about the bond between animals and men, but also about resilience, recovery from difficult times and the need to trust again.
As it can be imagined, the plot is emotional and as it progresses it becomes quite charismatic with the characters well developed and superb interaction between this young artist and the wounded horse.
As a plus, the emotional depth and close-knit atmosphere created by author's writing style enhance the reader's connection to the protagonist's experiences and feelings.
All in all, this healing plot should fulfill any soul with hope and warmness, so it is recommended to any kind of reader.

Hyunah Kim's "Rise to the Horizon" is a moving story that tells the touching tale of Axel and Poseidon, a show jumping horse with eerie burn marks from a destructive fire.

In response to Martha's cries for help, Axel, a talented horse whisperer, appears as the ray of hope as Poseidon turns aggressive and faces the terrible prospect of death.

Kim's story deftly interweaves themes of compassion, resiliency, and the transformational power inherent in relationships between people and animals.

It is wonderfully easy to read and the pages fly by.

“Rise to the Horizon” by KIM is a heart touching story. It is kind of like a metaphor for what happens to people that are not understood by society. They are treated badly and excluded. A horse that nobody can tame might seem scary to some. But luckily there is always a good person that can find a way to do something about it. I can recommend reading this book if you want to be addicted to such a beautiful story for as long as the pages go. It is wonderfully easy to read and the pages fly by. In no time, I had finished this book and had to return to reality.

You took me back to the world of Black Beauty. I had read Ana Sewells' Black Beauty and it remains one of my favorites till date however, Axel and Poseidon had made a new place in my heart.

The way Axel took care of Poseidon during the time of his distress was touching, I might have shred a tear or two; I'm not complaining though. Their friendship was beautiful. Horses are intelligent animals. With your narrative you proved it again.

Easy choice of words and overall lovely execution of this beautiful story. Looking forward to read more from you.

"Rise to the Horizon" is a celebration of the extraordinary healing power of love and the resiliency found in the human spirit, going beyond being just a story about a man saving a horse.

Kim's amazing ability to bring authenticity to the horse-human dynamic enhances the story even more, making the reader feel as though they are witnessing each gallop's heartbeat and each comforting whisper.

Kim's story is a touching testimonial that makes a lasting impression and serves as a reminder that meaningful connections frequently come from the furnace of adversity.

The human spirit never gives up in Kim's story, and the tale turns into a celebration of the transformational power of love and compassion.

With his protective instinct taking the place of his earlier trusting disposition, Poseidon transforms into a dangerous force that will harm anyone who dared.

His anguish and terror reverberate throughout the stables, enveloping him in a sense of loneliness.

The remarkable and symbiotic bond that develops between a person and a horse is the central theme of this engrossing and fast-paced story, making it a compelling read.

I've read other books by Hyunah Kim so I know that she's a talented writer. This story of Axel and Poseidon adds a new star for you.

Everyone knows the story so I'm not re-narrating it but it was just wow. Axel was so caring.

By the way is this the same Axel we read about in Vienna Calling? But he was an artist there. May be it was a co-incidence.

But overall, lovely narration. Beautiful story. And I just loved Poseidon. I wish I could hug it.

This is a story about a horse that had a bad accident. A man who knows a lot about horses tries to help the injured horse. The horse was very scared and hurt. People thought the horse should be put to sleep because it was so badly hurt. But the man didn't give up, and he helped the horse get better. It's a story about love and understanding between people and animals.

You'd love the story, just like I did. I'm sure. I highly recommend Rise to the horizon.

This is one good story I came across this month. Hyunah Kim had done really well with this one. Her last book Vienna Calling was all about love and this one is about the love and friendship between humans and animals.

A horse is indeed a majestic animal and here we have a horse whose name is Poseidon, and a man Axel.

It's about how they meet when Poseidon was ordered to take out and how they become friends.

Indeed a beautiful story to read. And the ending, it was tearful.

This book is a beautiful short story for anyone who was ever a "horse book person" or an animal lover

Set in the POV of Axel (human) but ALSO Poseidon (the horse) was such a cool touch! I loved reading it. The action of the main conflict was well done, the "feeling" that the book gives you is the same feeling you get from any animal you've loved..... one that just fills your chest with happiness

A nice short story about a man and his horse, it was just really touching. I recommend.

Readers are taken on an emotional roller coaster, experiencing both the triumphant highs and depressing lows of Axel and Poseidon's journey as they negotiate fear and trauma.

Each of the well-developed characters has their own goals and struggles.

Axel's resolute will, Poseidon's heartbreaking fight for survival, and Martha's desperation weave a complex emotional tapestry that will appeal to anyone who loves animals.

I haven’t done many ARCs, so when one popped up about horses, I figured I’d give it a shot. Much different than anything I normally read. It takes a minute to get used to how the book is worded and flows, possibly due to translation/ESL issues - certainly reads that way. Overall a heartwarming story about the bond between a good horse and his best friend.

A Delightful Story

Any horse lover would enjoy this story; and so would others. A young man and his love for his horse is a very special story. When the duo triumph in a jumping competition you will automatically cheer! Guaranteed. The young man keeps the heroism going after that. Wait until you read this and see what he does with his prize money! Loved this!
