Once every millennium, the gods assemble to decide if humanity is worthy of its continued existence or if it should be destroyed! When the verdict is destruction, the final battle between the gods and mortal heroes will decide the survival or extinction of the human race—a battle known as Ragnarok!
At the end of round five, the gods take the lead, with three wins to two. The loss of yet another human hero weighs heavily on Brunhilde. But the Valkyrie still has more cards to play! The gods are making their moves too, as Zeus approaches Buddha and sends him into the Valhalla arena for round six. The carefree enlightened one shocks the crowd with a stunning announcement that tips the tournament on its head. When the dust settles, Buddha faces an old rival, Bishamonten, who is much more than meets the eye…
Chapter 43: When I fight, I fight to win. That's what it means to be a god.
Chapter 43: The violence of either grief or joy. Their own enectures with themselves destroy.
Chapter 43: Now we're entering the sixth round of Ragnarok. What greater irony is there than this...? That the next fighter for the gods, fighting to end mankind, would be the one who once sought to guide mankind. Save them from the appetites of the flesh and show them the way through the darkness. This God!! Once a man who gave up his castle. Gave up his family. Gave up his desires. Gave up his emotions. And blazed an untrodden trail. Wandering alone, like a rhinoceros horn, and attained enlightment in mere six years. He was born alone. He lives alone. And he fights alone!! "Throughout the Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one!" "Throughout the Heaven and Earth, I alone am the mighty one!!" "Only I am strong!!" Born a prince of the Shakya clan, died a Buddha. He was the mightiest prodigal son of all human history! And the mortals revered him as...
Chapter 43: I'm fighting for humanity, so uh... THX.
Chapter 43: If the gods won't save mankind, then I will. And if any god gets in my way, I'll kill'em.
Chapter 44: I don't take very kindly to that.
Chapter 44: Answer me this. Buddha, are you prepared to make an enemy of all the gods? You just don't get it, do you? Didn't you hear me the first time? Allies and enemies, good and evil, god and mortal, those don't mean jack to me. I am the Buddha. Nothing else matters.
Chapter 44: But is there an eight God of Fortune? NO! NO!! NO!!! They were never seven to begin with. But one! And when that God descends upon the earth. The Heavens shall fade away, fortune shall vanish, and calamity shall soring forth! His name is...
Chapter 45: It was sorrow that changed Zerofuku.
Chapter 45: Zero's Sorrow
Chapter 45: In ancient Asia, when gods still walked among mortals, there were some gods who lived in mortal realm, to watch over mortals. Zerofuku was once the kindest god of all. But what greeted him in the mortal realms was mortals plagued by the eight sufferings. And misfortunes that boggled the imagination.
Chapter 45: Zerofuku's salvation took the form of absorbing misfortune from mortals. And so, he embarked upon his mission. To travel across the land. Bringing happiness to suffering people, and every misfortune he encountered he absorbed, and absorbed, and absorbed, and absorbed it all!
Chapter 45: His interminable absorbtion of misfortune brought anguish upon himself. And yet, Zerofuku was happy that he was bringing happiness to mortals. But Zerofuku was unaware the more misfortune he absorbed the more mortals took their fortune for granted, and fell into depravity.
Chapter 45: Zerofuku couldn't believe his eyes. The people following him all looked shabby, but their faces radiated happiness. And were full of satisfaction of human nature.
Chapter 45: Happiness isn't something you can be given. You have to reach it for yourself!
Chapter 45: A god was jealous of a mortal. Nothing could be more humiliating. There are many myths that speak of how quickly the love of the gods turns to hatred, and of how they attempted to destroy mankind. But before he could bring calamity upon mankind, Zerofuku divided himself into Seven Gods of Fortune. And so, the legend of Eight Gods of Fortune began.
This is barely 4 stars for me. Overall, I enjoyed it but there are some parts that bothered me. In this volume, for the 6th fight, Zeus asks Buddha to fight for the gods. Buddha accepts and steps into the ring and announces that he will fight for the humans (which is something I expected but liked it nonetheless). For the gods, The Seven Lucky Gods of Fortune step in and reveal their true form: Zerofuku. The fight itself is not very long. Instead, we learn more about both of these people, especially Zerofuku's past. I believe Zerofuku is an original character, created for this series. Buddha also seems interesting. However, we'll have to wait until September for the new volume.
I’d been tired of comics and manga portraying Buddha as merely some fat, laughing philosopher but this mangaka did an incredible job. The Enlightened One is compassionate, strong and cool here. Just look at the cover lol. My only problem is with Zerofuku whom I understand is the author’s creation for the manga but he is a bit dull in contrast to the Buddha’s character. But I kind of liked that the two backstories are made to overlap.
Buddha goes back on his word and becomes humanity's champion for round 6. So the Gods decide to send the seven Gods who converge to Zerofuku to fight Buddha. How Zerofuku has become like that has been depicted and it shows that without suffering there can be no happiness achieved. Taking humans misfortune does not make them happy but learning to be happy with misfortunes is the path to true happiness.

Callate, molesto.
If you couldn't tell, im loving this series. 11 volumes in, and I'm nowhere near bored yet. This might even be my favourite volume yet, and there wasn't a single bit of fighting. It was all build-up to round 6, and I loved every twist and turn of it. Wow, that one really shook things up.
