Russian Orthodox Church Of Alaska And The Aleutian Islands And Its Relation To Native American Traditions: An Attempt At A Multicultural Society, 1794-1912
In connection with the 200th anniversary of the Russian Orthodox Church in Alaska, an exhibition entitled In The Beginning Was the The Russian Church & Native Alaskan Cultures, including some of the most important & interesting documents from the large archives of the Church. This volume summarizes the results of the study of the archives, stressing their relevance for the problem of semiotic nets of communication in a multilingual & multicultural society. The translation of Biblical & Church-related documents into native languages is discussed & the social & religious aspects of communication & semiotic contact are examined.
