Kyonna had wanted Rhys for as long as she could remember. After coming home from college and starting her career, he was the only thing missing from her life.
Rhys is adjusting to being a retired NFL player. He's ready to settle down and start a family, but his issue is he hasn't found the right woman to be with.
When the opportunity presents itself Kyonna takes matters into her own hands. Dressing up in a mask and finding her way into Rhys's bed seemed like a good idea until she's presented with a life altering consequence. Now she's forced to tell the truth or live in a lie without Rhys and their families finding out.
Rhys isn't prepared for how his life is about to change and Kyonna is forced to woman up and face the music.

Oh my God! Kyonna, baby girl? Are you okay in the head? Nope. I'm actually quite disappointed because of Kyonna, what a bratty character which had zero accountability and was very manipulative. Just a big no from me, especially coming from book 1 to this.
I don't think I have ever disliked a characters actions in a story as much as Kyonna's. She did not redeem herself at the end of the story. I actually felt sorry for Rhys. The story had some typos and word use issues that needed a good edit to help the context in the storyline. Overall, the story was an okay read.
I didn’t know if I wanted to square up with this FMC or put her on punishment and take her phone privileges because that’s how childish she was. Kyonna worked my last nerve! She was spoiled, entitled and so childish. I was actually not rooting for a HEA this time because free the MMC. Yikes! But, a book that makes me feel this strongly is well written, so good job Tay Monae.
I’m sorry, but this was trash. Seriously the MFC was a brat and she didn’t deserve to win in the end for me. She was a little ass girl the entire way n she tricked her way into that man bed and life. It’s a no for me.
Now this was my first read from Tay Monae This book was actually good!
Whooo that damn Kyonna was getting on my nerves chilee😭😭 I’m glad everything worked out for the both of them And I really like Rhys a lot he was such a great guy and handle the situation like a real MAN should! Loved their family dynamic as well Cause even though Ky was dead ass wrong 😑 and I also understood why she went about the situation the way she did! Still wished she could’ve tried being upfront and let him have a choice! Nonetheless this was a great read!!!😊 Will be reading more from Tay Monae 🙌🏾
Tay said Kyonna had some things to overcome and work through but she's Chile she is spoiled 😭. Rhys feeling the pressures of everyone around him settling down and sub comes to a one night stand with a mystery girl at his best friend's party. Little did he know that mystery girl was Kyonna! And let me tell you something Kyonna drove me up a wall with bad decision after bad decision but I get it the situation was complicated to begin with! I'm not going to lie Dena was a waste of space 😩 I get it but girl bye! Team Kyonna even when she is on my nerves! Lindsey and Evan are ops! Jamal call me 🥰😘! Overall this was a fun read with just enough drama. There were some grammatical errors but nothing that would take me out of the story! Would recommend this read!
Is it just me, or do all these ratings seem to come from insecure women? The entire book revolves around this naïve and immature girl who plays mind games and throws tantrums like a three-year-old. There’s no genuine chemistry or even a romantic connection between the two characters. It feels forced and contrived, solely for the purpose of her getting pregnant by him. And then, out of nowhere, they’re together in the last three chapters, skip to an epilogue, and I’m left feeling utterly disappointed and frustrated that I had to endure this book.
Despite the limited character development, this was still an enjoyable (somewhat unrealistic) read for pure entertainment. However, I struggled with the lack of accountability for the female main character. I appreciated that she pursued her career goals outside of her family’s wealth, but I wish it hadn’t come at Rhys’s expense. I’m not a fan of trickery in relationships, and while the surprise pregnancy added drama, it didn’t sit well with me that she ultimately ended up with everything she wanted. If she had reached that point, I would’ve preferred to see a slower, more earned progression.
Still, I’m hoping there’s a book three (if one isn’t already out) because I’d love an update on her friend’s storyline.
Tay Monae is a great storyteller, I was so curious to see how the story would end because of the many secrets. Nonetheless, things happened the way they should have for Kyonna and Rhys. I also loved the cameos of some of my favorite characters. There were more errors than I expected but the story as a whole was good.
I'm not gonna lie. I finished this book out of pure spite, because in my mind, there was no way that this problematic FMC wasn't going to see how major of a mess she made. But with every chapter, all she did was reaffirm that she was indeed spoiled, self-absorbed, delusional, and completely irrational. I attribute her actions to her frontal lobe not being fully developed, but I don't remember being this crazy as a young twenty something...
Like, girl, you basically stealthed a man? Like highkey that is creeper behavior. But I digress. I highkey would rather have had a story about Spencer and Jules, or even Caspian's journey.
Just find it hard to believe that Rhys knew it was Kyonna the whole time. He didn’t ask questions when she turned up pregnant shortly after their encounter? It didn’t seem like he was into her much. He knew she was younger so he should have been the adult to say “Hey I know that was you”.
4.5/5 stars Kyonna irked me in this story because of how long she waited to tell Rhys. After the ultrasound part I didn’t I started not to like Rhys. Happy he got his mind right though.
This was an intriguing age gap romance. Kyonna is a 22 year old recent college graduate who has a major crush on her brother’s brother in law, Rhys, who is 34 years old. She decides that she is gong to make this man hers. She decides to get him in bed during her brother’s masquerade party. She and Rhys spend one naughty night together and she ends up with more than she bargained for!! Yes…she ends up pregnant. Instead of telling this man, she keeps her pregnancy a secret for too darned long.
She finally comes clean but Rhys is understandably upset. Kyonna has tarnished herself in his eyes and with her family. In the words of the old people…she ain’t have that to do! Now she has to earn this man’s trust back and they have to figure out how they’re going to be co-parents.
I had so many mixed emotions about Kyonna. I think she was super childish and I really couldn’t blame Rhys for being upset with her. Gosh, her actions caused so many problems. She and Rhys finally decided to focus on their relationship and get back to the comfort they initially had before things fell apart. When it was all said and done, they were kind of perfect for each other. They just had to work things out!!
Kyonna had always been spoiled and was always determined to have what and who she wanted which included Rhys. Throughout her teenage years she had always had the biggest crush on him. She just never thought he would give her his time since there was a big age difference between them. When she returned from college she was determined to have Rhys even if it was only for one night. She got her chance at a masquerade party. Since her identity was hidden he would never know it was her. After their one night together she found out she was pregnant. Now she had the biggest task ever which was telling him he was the father of her child. She kept it from him and everyone else for a few months. He was not happy when she told him since she wasn't honest from the beginning. He eventually forgave her and they were able to take a shot at a relationship for the sake of their child together
Now Kyonna....Ma’am you weren’t wrong because you slept with your brothers best friend that’s also the brother of your sister in-law, making him your brother in-law. You were dead wrong for secretly sleeping with him with a costume on and then hiding a pregnancy for months!!...messy messy! She was so manipulative and I have no idea how Rhys would be able to get past that. I’m glad her parents got on her when everything came out, especially the mom. I honestly never felt like she redeemed herself. I would need to see more to feel like there was some growth in her character. Just because I don’t like the FMC, doesn’t mean that I didn’t like the book tho. Rhys just deserved better and I wanted them to have an actual romantic journey. We don’t really see Rhys fall in love with her for real. I felt like it was just for the kid in the end. He wanted a family so bad that he just went with it
Kyonna, entire being is a straight No! I'm genuinely disappointed with her character. She's incredibly bratty, lacks accountability, and is very manipulative. Kyonna acts like a spoiled child and doesn't deserve to win in the end. She schemed her way into that man's life and bed, and I can't support that. The entire book centers around this naïve and immature girl who plays mind games and throws tantrums like a toddler. There's no genuine chemistry or romantic connection between the two characters; it feels forced and contrived, merely to set up her pregnancy. Then suddenly, they're together in the last three chapters, followed by an epilogue, leaving me feeling utterly disappointed and frustrated for having read this book. I had hoped for a better love story in book two, but apparently not. I actually prefer book one, which says a lot since I only gave it three stars.
I liked Ky and Rhys story. She was certainly bratty and gave Groupie vibes with how she pursued him but it paid off. . I didn’t really get this being a part 2 of the Million Dollar Baby book series but I guess it is because of Rhys’ wealth although it was never mentioned. I thought the books were tired together because of Indigo. It was weird that Indigo”s brother was named Spencer in book 1 so it threw me off that the Spencer in this book is not that same character. I kept waiting for the connection to be made. I also gave the book only 3 stars because of the editing. There were a lot of grammatical errors even though you could read past it most times. Overall it was truly a great love story.
Kyonna is very spoiled and a brat. Thanks to her father and brother. Now it's Rhy's turn. She worked my last nerve. If Rhy knew it was Kyonna why he didn't say anything? Even Jewelz and Trinity knew that Kyonna was crushing on him. I don't think he was naive or anything. I don't know Rhy didn't want to talk to her because she was twelve years younger than him or her brother is married to his sister. I'm happy Trinity. Lindsay is jealous of Kyonna because wanted Evan and her life. Plus I think runs that blog. Her family is shocked when she said Rhy's is her baby's father. They went on dates and even went to Lawson baby girl's party. They ran into both their ex's in the same day. Tay is needs let Caspian fall in love and just walks away because he knows that is eventually going to leave.
This is the second book in the Million Dollar Baby series. I must say…. I couldn’t STAND Kyonna. The spoiled entitled baby sister of a NFL star worked my nerves. Now Rhys … he gave everything he needed to give. Intellectual, caring, compassionate, and he doesn’t put up with any foolishness.
Kyonna really is an example of what is wrong with SOME young girls in this era. The entitlement and the whining whenever you don’t get what you want made me just done with her. However, I love her family dynamic. Once it came out about what she did… they didn’t play with her AT ALL and neither did Rhys which I was HAPPY to read! We live in a day and time that accountability is a scarcity especially in our African American community.
Though Rhys and Kyonna became an item, I was hoping he left her high and dry but that’s why I love Rhys as well. He showed her grace in a moment where if he didn’t show grace no one would blame him. Rhys is a true man and he is the solid rock that Kyonna needs.
Overall, Ms. Tay Monae is an auto buy author for me. She touches on so many topics within the African American community and it is refreshing to read books that are written for us by us. I love that her books are easy reads and relatable. 4 ⭐️ read for sure but I give the series a 4.25 stars ⭐️.
I adore and admire this author, but this was not my fave. I couldn't connect with the heroine. I love a brat fmc, but having fmc to which I cannot relate in some way is not my fave. In my perspective, she was overly spoiled and lacked self-awareness of other people's emotions and finances. I liked that she found her work on her own, but I needed to see her move away from relying on her daddy and older brother. You have a grown ass who is( fine, sexy and BDE) and this man does not want here you cry and beg for help from another man. (In my opinion)
I actually liked the book it has a lot of potential but I think there should have been a build up towards the end between the two main characters. Good plot and climax but I don’t feel like the two characters actually had strong chemistry that brought the two together?? I guess that’s the whole point but I don’t see how Ryhs built feeling for Kioana yes he thinks she’s pretty but her character had no depth I think with a plot like this we need more of a backstory between the two main characters to make it believable. Don’t get me wrong it was a good book but the ending was kinda rushed.

This damn book gave drama, tension, and a whole lot of “girl… be serious” energy from page one. Kyonna has been wanting Rhys forever, and when that opportunity cracked open, she took it and ran. The mask? The sneaking into his bed? I was sitting there like, Kyonna, please. But also… I understood the assignment. (would I do hell noooooooooooooooooo)
Rhys is retired, fine, and ready to settle all the way down. Their chemistry is strong, but it’s the consequences, the accountability, and that emotional fallout that kept me turning pages. This story blends longing, chaos, and real-life grown folks' decisions.
And honestly? I don’t think Kyonna was meant for him… but aye, she got what she wanted.
This story was wild! Lesson learned about manipulation and lying to your first crush. Kyonna should have been honest from the start, but she didn’t know the outcome to that honesty. Also, Rhys played a part in not letting her know he knew she was his one night stand. I glad everything worked out in the end and she got her man. The approach was wrong, but love won after all!
Rhys was a retired football player who was looking for love. Kyonna had just moved back home for a job and had always had a crush on Rhys. One night together, and Kyonna gets pregnant. Kyonna was spoiled and handled the situation wrong. Instead of telling Rhys immediately, she keeps it to herself. There is drama once Rhys learns she is pregnant with his child. This was a cute and sweet story that was easy to read and finish in one day.
Tay Monae never disappoints. I’m really enjoying this group of friends as they go on a journey of being successful and still finding love in unconventional ways. Kyonna, Miss girl, is a brat! A very spoiled one. However, her assertiveness made me love her character so much. She wasn’t afraid to go after what she wanted even though she was a little trife going about it. Rhys is a man who really wanted the ideal package of family life. His emotional maturity was so refreshing and I stan!
I think over all it was a great story however, the many mistakes with grammar made it hard to read sometimes. On every page there was a mistake which makes me wonder who is editing and proofreading. I love all of this authors stories. I just wish the books would be reread and edited before publication, which I believe would make a huge difference to all of her readers.
