1⭐️ This was…not good! I’m sorry, it’s nothing personal against the author, I’m sure she is a lovely person, but I can’t possibly rate this higher! I picked it up knowing that it had lower ratings on GR but I decided to give it a try anyway, thinking that the reason behind the low ratings is that „Off season“ is a newer release. 🤷🏻♀️
I will mention all the things that bothered me because I could have avoided wasting my time here if I would have known all these things beforehand.
Spoilers ahead!!!
- The first thing you need to know is that this is book 1 in a SERIES. Did I know that? Of course not!!! Why, you ask? Well because I didn’t zoom on to read the tiny font on the cover and it wasn’t mentioned anywhere else that this is part of a series. At least not at this particular moment. So you can imagine my surprise at the end of the book when it suddenly stopped! 🙃😂
- The writing style was very juvenile! It felt like it was written by a 17 year old. And that’s coming from a person whose first language isn’t English. The dialogue was cringe worthy & flat and the chapters were extremely short, but not in a good way.
- This is supposed to be a second chance romance! Imagine how flabbergasted I was, when I realized our main characters didn’t care for each other one iota until the very end of the book, when they were suddenly in love AGAIN. Give me a break!😒
Reed, the mmc, slept with countless other girls without any remorse while „being in love“ with her.
Olivia, the fmc, had a huge crush on another guy (his rival) and avoided Reed like the plague. Seriously, in the first half of the book, there was absolutely nothing between them besides animosity. To me it seemed like they had already moved on! He slept with another girl the same night he arrived at the beach house, in a room across the hall from her! And the worst part was, the fmc seemed indiferent, she didn’t even care, wasn’t jealous or anything. She genuinely wanted to get to know the new guy better. If that doesn’t scream SOULMATES, I don’t know what does!😂 I get her reasoning for not caring, but still…for it to be a believable second chance romance, the characters still have care for each other at least a little bit!🫣😂
- Now for the reason of why they „broke up“. This is a major SPOILER so if you don’t want to find out, stop reading now!!! Ok!
Are you ready? Are you sitting down? So, apparently she had leukemia and he left her while still being in the hospital, without saying goodbye. The first time they saw each other again was at the beginning of the book, at the beach house. He left her because her father made him do it. Now, I won’t lie, I didn’t expect this. It really took me by surprise! I taught for sure it was cheating or some kind of betrayal, but nothing health related. Sadly, by that point, because the writing was so bad and everything was so outta pocked, I couldn’t take anything seriously. Honestly, it all felt like a bad written tragicomedy. 🙈😂
Look, all joking aside, if the writing was a bit more polished and if the pacing wasn’t so rushed, it could have been a decent angsty read. The premise itself wasn’t bad.
I truly am sorry for the brutal honesty. 🫣

I didn’t realise that this book was the first in a series until the end. I didn’t particularly like reading about the characters hooking up with or developing feelings for other people. Reed sleeping with a rando in the room across the hall on the first night there was not attractive or bagging out his bestest friends girlfriends who he adores. As well as Olivia never seeming jealous of seeing him with other girls and spending time with a boy everyone absolutely hates.
These 2 don’t have a nice word shared between them until 75% and suddenly they can’t keep their hands off each other with declarations of love. Although the relationship between Olivia and her brothers is sweet. This unfortunately didn’t really do it for me.

Honestly this book was so boring. It could have been so good, but I could not get into at all. I wanted to stop reading it so bad but I pushed through hoping it would get better. I was wrong, it did not get better.

╰┈➤“You unlocked my heart when I thought I lost the key”, well I just lost my interest in reading the second book. The fact that there are, 2 (technically 3) more books to this story makes absolutely no sense. It takes you a whole damn book to figure out what HER problem is and I bet it takes another book to figure out HIS.
╰┈➤I swear one of the characters is meant to portray a fairy godmother because the amount of inspirational/deep conversations that came out of her ass was garbage.

OMG I am obsessed. So, personally I didn't like Wyatt at allll. And I loveed that Olivia and Reed were avoiding each other and messing with each other and she was all "I don't want you" while it was obvious he wanted her even tho he was still messing around with other girls. I loveeedddd when Reed and Wyatt fought on the ice in the hockey arena. Right before Olivia's birthday, Reed had gotten her something that only he and her would know about, but he gave it to Wyatt when Wyatt was freaking out because he didn't know it was her birthday so he didn't get her a present(personally I think that was sooooo sweet). And at her party, she decided to choose between the two and chose Reed. As they were saying that everything got dead quiet and they didn't notice until Marcus (Olivia's brother aka Reed's homie) came out and was alllll like what the fuck broooo and punched him. Earlier in the bookie Reed was all "if I ever fall for a girl punch me" so technically he asked for it. This is currently one of my favorites and I CANNOTTTTTT wait for the next one. THANK YOU, Miss Meagan Pringle. My life would nottt be the same without you.

well this was terrible. the only reason i’m even thinking abt giving it 2.5 stars is because the idea was there the execution was just god awful i felt like it was so repetitive and predictable. all the stuff that could’ve been to interesting was barely touched on and just brushed over. i did like the characters which is a bonus but they were still very shallow and simple as was the entire story there was barely any background and description which left soooo many unanswered questions. i genuinely don’t even think we know what the characters look like. and i also would never read the second book in this series. this could’ve easily been one book. i honestly could write a book better than this. from the first chapter i could tell i wasn’t going to like this writing g. it was just so simple but trying to hard to be complex making it just fucking bad. anyways. 2 stars

This was an elementary English teacher’s dream. I’ve never read so many similes. It felt out of character to have such descriptive thoughts coming from Reed given that he’s meant to be “rough around the edges” and in some situations pulled me from the book to have such stark contrast from him being drunk and crude to inner thoughts that were so “poetic” almost. Other than those moments, this was a cute read. The cover and the title are little misleading and I was expecting more of a hockey read. However, if you’re looking for a brother’s best friend, beach read, this one’s a good one just don’t expect your typical hockey romance.

Add that the fact that there’s hot hockey players and a love triangle because we love the drama and boom I’m sold.
I loved reading this book and it was one of those where you immediately want to continue reading about this characters.
I can’t wait for the rest of this series and to see this characters growing together!

I found this book on Instagram and decided to try it because I fell in love with the short clips the author posted, but I ended up disappointed.
It made me sad that the storyline was written poorly. The plot was good, but it was not given justice.
I hope the author seeks help from beta readers for her future books because her idea is so good.

I just couldn’t even bring myself to finish this book. I want to like this so bad, but the characters are unlikable. It’s hard to get invested in a book when you don’t even like the 2 main characters. I mean no disrespect to the author, but this wasn’t for me. The main guy is breathtakingly annoying and gives me the ick.

I feel like this storyline could’ve had so much potential but it definitely lacked in many areas. I didn’t care for any of the characters and there was way too much going on. The story ended so abruptly with so many unresolved issues. I wish I could rate this book better but I can’t 😢

This was a cute hockey romance. It moved really quickly and had short chapters so I was able to finish this in one day. It was a good starting point for the rest of the series
