About the author

Marisa Taylor lives in London, UK with her husband and children. They are a mixed Jamaican, Canadian & German family. London has a diverse range of people, cultures & ethnic backgrounds. However, she still found it difficult to find books that reflect the amazing city and represent children from all over.

She is passionate about learning & teaching languages as it is a key element to connecting with people from other cultures. Her desire is to inspire and motivate parents and children from all nationalities & backgrounds to love who they are and be happy within.

Marisa speaks German, Spanish, Portuguese and English fluently, but only speaks German and Spanish to her children. The lack of bilingual bilingual books available inspired her to create a bilingual series of her book´happy within´, with the aim of helping her children improve their language skills, as well as help other families learn another language together. She also feels strongly about teaching kids all around the world about self-love and diversity early on and that it is why she has published the book in so many languages.

Cute way to teach diversity.

Super cute. My son is adopted and is darker skinned then me so reading this to him (4) he asked so many questions. We loved it.

About Diversity is a book that I read as part of the children's literacy course. This book is an International book Awards Finalist, it is Diversity for me! is a bilingual children's book that teaches children about the beauty of diversity. The main protagonist, Havana, takes her little sister around the city of London telling her what the word diversity means to her. An excellent book for the first conversations about diversity and inclusion.
The Spanish translation was done in a way to maintain the rhyme and the important message about the beauty of diversity. It is a beautifully illustrated and colorful double-page book that captures the attention of children of this age very well and communicate through the pictures.
This story is very appropriate to develop the theme of diversity/inclusion and the differences present, is appropriate in early education students, teacher can work through strategies such as TWPS where students can think-write-pair-share.

Beautiful book and message

Love the message if this book and the illustrations. Definitely displays diversity. Written in a way for young children to understand and capture the positive meaning of diversity and being different. Although the Spanish translation isn't exactly equivalent to the English, the message is the same and also done in rhyme which explains the minor changes.

Great teaching tool

A book that can help is start a conversation about race, disabilities and other differences. A worried if different miss of people makes a beautiful world.
The rhythm and thyme were a bit off. But overall, a wonderful book.

DIVERSITY by Marisa J. Taylor is a fun and vibrant picture book that helps kids appreciate the beauty of our differences. It shows how things like appearance, culture, and life experiences make the world more interesting and beautiful. The book encourages children to celebrate what makes each person unique and to be inclusive from an early age, setting the stage for respectful, open-minded friendships and relationships. In my future classroom, I would use this book as part of a discussion on respect and empathy, helping children understand that differences are something to celebrate. After reading, I could have each student shares something unique about themselves. After all the students had a turn to say something I will tell them if we were all the same it would be very boring.

A child explains to a younger sibling the meaning of diversity in a (mostly) rhyming book that attempts to include as many people as possible while also reminding us that there's only one person just like you.

This book is a good learning tool, but I admit it's not one I'd rush to read again. Some of the rhymes are a bit forced, making it a little awkward to read. The illustrations are inclusive, and the language considerate.

Diversity to me is a good book to teach children the world to see that you must respect those who are different from you. This book teaches kids that it is okay to be different and those around you will not always be the same as you. This book shows many people with different backgrounds and cultures. Diversity to me Lexile level is N/A and intended for grades PreK to 3rd.

I was gifted a copy of this book, and it's wonderful. It explains diversity and inclusion in such a simplistic but effective way. Young children will certainly understand and appreciate the message. Beautifully illustrated.
