"

Detective Sargent Jason Steele is a control freak who has a reputation for being as hard and cold as his name. As he goes about his daily life avoiding friends and relationships, he has no idea that someone has been watching him—someone who has decided that there is more to Jason than meets the eye.

Kaden Jamieson is an investigative researcher with an excellent reputation, a talent for hacking into computers, and a client who has just asked him to find proof that her brother did not commit suicide. Now armed with suspicions that there may be a homophobic serial killer on the loose amid the ranks in the North Bay police precinct, Jamieson decides there is only one person who can help him—Detective Steele. But when Jamieson approaches Steele with the idea that they pretend to be boyfriends in an effort to lure the bloodthirsty culprit into their trap, he unwittingly opens a can of worms that causes hard-hearted Steele to question everything he has ever known or believed about himself.

In this gripping thriller, a seasoned police detective must learn to trust a man he barely knows with his life in order to catch a determined killer on a deadly mission.

Kenzi Bond

Kenzi Bond lives in Queensland, Australia, which she considers just about the best place to be. When she’s not in the real world (or writing), she is engrossed in a book. A voracious reader, Kenzi reads one book a day on average. She finds inspiration all around her and loves to people-watch.

Kenzi describes herself as hopeless romantic, believing in love at first sight and living happily ever after, but this isn’t the stuff of fantasy—she has loved her husband madly and deeply since she met him in 1987. Her writing is supervised by Simba, an Italian Greyhound who thinks he’s a cat.

Kenzi’s fictional characters are like family, and she ensures that they also find their one true love in the end. They live and love wholeheartedly, much as Kenzi herself does.
You can contact Kenzi via her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kenzibond.author/ or via her Amazon author page at amazon.com/author/kenzibond. She would love to hear from you!

I made it to 50% before deciding to shelve this DNF. I found it quite amateurish and not very exciting.

DNF @ 23%.

The entire premise of this story is ridiculous. I have no issues with ridiculous; in fact, done properly, I love it (i.e. Mary Calmes). This isn't done properly. Even if you ignore the editing issues (random words capitalized in the middle of sentences or sentences structured in ways that just don't makes sense), the dialogue just absolutely kills this book. Contractions are rarely used and everyone talks like robots (I don't know if Kenzi Bond is just trying to hard to make the characters not sound Austrailian or something?) On top of that, this is told in alternating POV and were it not for the fact that each switch is indicated with huge, bold font indicating the current character's POV, you wouldn't be able to differentiate the two voices. And at almost 1/4 of the way through, pretty much nothing has happened.

Clearly this is a gay erotic story but this is also a story of one damaged man who shuts everyone out because he fears losing control. He lives an isolated life as a detective on the police force, not even truly bonding with his team until an openly gay, caring man pulls him into living and not just existing.

Someone is killing gay men whose lovers are on the police force. Jason and Kaden's relationship started as a deliberate lure for the killer but as time passes Jason only wants to keep Kaden safe in his arms, which is exactly what Kaden has wanted from the beginning. Slowly Jason begins to love and trust Kaden and Kaden's best friend Zane but always in the background is the threat that brought them together in the first place.

This was a fast moving, fast reading romantic thriller.

I have to mention the two laugh out loud moments that were totally unexpected and I loved the references to Charlaine Harris' character Eric Northman (yes, I'm grinning) and Doctor Who.

I won this book in a FirstReads giveaway.

I really hate that I like this whole series. The story lines are well thought-out and creative, although deus ex machina is a little overused. Short little books with insta-love and an over arcing storyline throughout the series are all pluses in my book.

However, as many reviewers have pointed out, the editorial errors are atrocious. Misspellings are rampant, grammar is creative to say the least. Names change (from Jager to Jagger, from Dom to Dan and back to Dom in the course of a conversation). In one book, Beau is speaking with his twin, Dean, and refers to Dean as Beau! I really, truly do not understand how these errors happened, or how the books slipped through without one person pointing them out. As with the storylines, the errors are consistent throughout the series.

Blatant inconsistencies and poor grasp of basic writing skills aside, the stories really are charming, and I did enjoy them. I feel like the books got better as the series progresses, in as much as it was enjoyable to see character development and revisiting old friends. I just hate that I like them and will continue to read Kenzi Bond's books.

A Really Good New Series

What a fantastic book the writing was great. The characters were well developed and though out. The plot was great and it was steady throughout the book. I read the book in one sitting. I found the story and characters riveting. There was humor, mystery, murder, police and so much more in this book. As much as I liked the book there was something missing. But I don’t have the words for it unfortunately. It just one of those things as reader that happens to you. It not a big thing but I can’t give it 5 stars when I have that lack. I will be reading again to see if I just missed something and can change though. For now, though I can highly recommend this book. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Finding Steele (North Bay Pursuits Book 1)

Solid read if a little shaky execution wise.
The thing though, is that the story went from being 'cold as steele' Steele to mushy Steele so fast it gave me whiplash.
And I get it. The man was cold and seemed uncaring cause he never new different, just never before was shown what love and be loved is; he's been starved for affection his whole life. But he took to it so easily and went beyond sweet and lovingly so fast, my head was spinning for a while ^^
It is a sweet story and the cold as steele police officer finds everything he never knew wanted or needed in the shape of an adorable though somewhat unstoppable force of nature hacker.
Sweetest HEA coming your way.

Jason is 44 y/o but how old is Kaden?

These are only my thoughts- I'm not saying it was a bad read, I'm saying I had a few issues
1. Kaden acted like a teenager
2. I have whiplash from the way Jason went from No to Yes
3. Kaden's dad to Jason- "let the women clean the kitchen or do the dishes"- he was talking about his son Kaden- WTH?
4. No other police agency picked up the killings?
5. Kaden went from begging to threatening and this is sexy?
6. The height difference between the two men changed numerous times during the book
7. Every single man that comes in contact with Zane, wants him and propositions sex?
8. Kaden wearing baggy jeans and no underwear so they could have sex in the police station where everyone can hear

Started out good

Could not finish this book. I lost interest and even through scanning could not pick up interest again. Characters seemed strong in the beginning but story line was not strong. Not sure what feedback to give author to improve.

Major head hopping. I keep being yanked out and have to reread a sentence or five to figure out who's POV we have.

I don't buy that an OCD person would like the fact that someone came into his space and put their things everywhere.

2nd paragraph in chapter 9 days "you only met me last night" but a few pages before said it had been two weeks.

Why would cum increase the friction?

Too much sex but it is sweet and loving and not boring.

This was a new author for me and it was enjoyable. I liked the development of the relationship of Jason and Kaden, the friendly banter with Jason's team but there was just something missing. The story of them meeting is different if not a bit far fetched. Saying this though, I look forward to reading Zane's story.

OMG, I just discovered this series. Jason and Kaden are so hot together. An amazing story of the quiet, some say cold detective, and the little ray of sunshine who brings happiness to his world
