I really enjoyed this omnibus edition of The Borderlands Saga series. I’m not sure if any of the material changed from the original three books when it was turned into this omnibus, but that is something I’d like to know.

As far as the story went, I was initially drawn in by the description of it being similar to The 10th Kingdom because that was and still is one of my favorite miniseries ever. I definitely do agree that this series has a 10th Kingdom meets a darker version of the Arthurian Legends meets kind of a super weird/dark/warped version of Alice in Wonderland mashed up with The Wizard of Oz…it was unique is what I’m really trying to say.

I don’t want to give too much away plot wise, but I did enjoy the unique take on certain characters…making them much darker than how we normally see them, and the dual roles some of the other characters had…I knew we’d definitely see certain people from Amie’s Texas life later on…I just had a feeling.

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic series. It had all the great classic fantasy aspects one wants paired with a strong modern day woman. I enjoyed the different settings and the (familiar to me) lore. If you’re not familiar with Celtic myth/lore along with Arthurian legend I could see where some of the story elements could be a bit confusing, but I’d say to keep pushing through. This is a pretty great trilogy IMHO.

This trilogy was a very interesting read. I loved the first and second books. The third felt kind of strained. I would like it more if I knew more about the characters. They were decently written I just wish I knew more. I would recommend this to people who like characters with several lifespans and royalty.

These books are getting 3.5 out of 5 stars from me.

There were parts of this story that I greatly enjoyed, at least in the 3 different books. I enjoyed the idea that this was based on Arthurian legend. However, there were times in these books where I felt the story dragged on, or that there were some parts of it that didn't make sense, even when reading the other books in this series.

There was a mix of different languages and dialects that made parts of the books a bit confusing for me. Especially the use of old English and Southern accents, Texas. I was surprised to find that there was a glossary for some of the terms in the back of the book, which I discovered a bit too late to help me, but hopefully this will help others who read it in the future.

There were times in the story, where I feel like the author was trying to combine too many different stories into one to try and make a convincing story, but I felt if it was just Arthurian legend and maybe one or two others perhaps I would have felt less confused.

Most of the characters, we either got too much information about, or not enough information, perhaps I read the books too fast for everything to full sink in. Perhaps on a more relaxed reading I'll be able to pick up more information.

Out of all the characters, I enjoyed Jo and James the best, even though they don't really do much in the story until the 3rd book in the series.

The book is about Jessamine and her mysterious and at times, convoluted past. I wish I could say that I enjoyed her in all three books, I did enjoy her character as she tries to find out more about who she and her family is.

The first book was enjoyable and my favorite in the series, the second one was fairly decent, but I felt that the last few chapters in the last book were a bit rushed and too much happened at once and some things were skipped over or abridged to get to the conclusion.

I will read this series again, whenever I can get to it, perhaps by then, I will enjoy this a bit more and will be able to change my rating of this.

I will though, be on the lookout for when the 4th book of the series comes out, so that way, I can find out what happens to the characters.

I read the first book of the Borderlands Saga by Jennifer Silverwood, Silver Hollow. While I won’t be continuing the series, I rate this first book 3 ⭐️

The story follows Amie as her parents die when she is 17 and fast forwards to when she is 27. Suddenly people are trying to kill her and strangers are appearing in her life. A mysterious dark and handsome character takes her to her Uncle Henry’s in England. She passes into a borderland between fairy and the human world. Suddenly she starts remembering things, maybe she knows these people from a different time and who can she trust?

As you can see the premise is great, and I easily got sucked into this world. Unfortunately I didn’t find the writing very mature, as it has a few plot holes. There are many questions that are left unanswered and at first I thought it is because Amie doesn’t know what’s going on. But the plot jumps and halts on things, and other things are left behind. Sometimes Amie accepts weird things the reader is begging her to question, and sometimes she stumbles onto weird side plots we don’t care about. I won’t get into many specifics because I don’t want to spoil it, but overall I would say the author needs to tighten up the plot and create stronger character arcs that are consistent. Just one example is when she gets to the Borderlands she never questions that people can do magic and never is the world fae or fairy mentioned. It isn’t realistic for a human to not even be surprised there is magic!

Also one thing on my mind was that the character is 27, however it reads as if it’s a 18 year old coming of age book. This is a no spice book, which is totally fine, but the mentality of Amie was also quite childish. Something to keep in mind if that bothers you.

I won’t be continuing the series but I hope the author can make a similar series which addresses these writing issues. All the same, 3 stars because it really was a great idea for a story and kept me until the end of book one!

This is such a unique book that it is hard to rate it below a 3. By unique I mean that it is super original and although it is a retelling (of sorts) of Merlin and King Arthur is done in a way that I have not seen in print before.

The reason for a 3 star rating is as follows: (1) at times the book was extremely wordy and used an old language, which at times made it hard to follow and understand, and (2) At times it was confusing with the POV changing each chapter (maybe having the POV listed in the Chapter heading would help this).

The reason I would not rate it lower: The unique style of this story, the wonderful characters, the original thought make this book worth the read and worth putting up with (or wading through) the afore mentioned things.

Excellent job.

This box set is a wonderful introduction to a magical and imaginative series. The blend of prophecy, lost memories, dragons, and fae courts creates a rich and engaging fantasy world that feels both classic and fresh. Amie’s struggle to reclaim her identity and powers is relatable and powerful, and the themes of sisterhood, destiny, and sacrifice add depth to the story. Each book builds on the last, making the trilogy feel like a complete and satisfying journey while still leaving you eager for more. Fans of shows and stories like Once Upon a Time or fairy-tale mashups will find a lot to love here. I would definitely recommend The Borderlands Saga to fantasy lovers who enjoy romance, magic, and epic destinies wrapped in a beautifully crafted world.

Enjoyed the book the story line is very original. A retelling of the Merlin and King Arthur story with all the characters flipped 180. Merlin as a dark spirit with so much blood on his hands but reunites with his Nim. Faye as the Weaver was not expected.

There was a lot of maybe Gaelic or another language it made it difficult to follow the story line and there was a lot of wandering. I got tired of the wordiness with the extra language which is why it got a 4. But because I did truely like the book i kept going to the end.

I give these 3 books a 3.5 out of 5 star rating. I enjoyed this story. It was very original, unlike anything I’ve read so far. I liked how there were some twists and turns causing me to not know what to expect next. My only complaint is that it got confusing at times; especially when the POV would change with each chapter. I had to read several lines before I figured out whose point of view I was in. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is such an epic fantasy read. It’s highly addictive and full of action, adventure and magic as we jump on board this rollercoaster ride. Faeries, dragons, incredible characters, exciting and enthralling storyline, this had me hook, line and sinker from start to finish. Well paced with Arthurian lore weaved into this tale and beautiful and descriptive world building, romance and a kick ass, strong heroine, this is a wonderful fantasy boxset and I look forward to more to come!

This is a great story with lots of suspense. I struggled to keep myself interested at times. It can be a slow read during some of the time. But overall a great read.
