S.J. Sanders is a mom of two toddlers and one adult living in Anchorage, Alaska. She has a BA degree in History, but spends most of her free time painting, sculpting, doing odd bits of historical research, and writing. While she has more research orientated writing under another pen name, her passion is sci-fi and paranormal romance of which she is an avid reader. After years of tinkering with the idea, and making her own stories up in her head, S.J has began to seriously pursue writing as an author of Sci-fi Romance utilizing her interests in how cultures diversify and what they would look like on a extraterrestrial platform to humans interacting with them and finding love.
This was a dark Halloween mystery with some romance woven in. MaryAnne was a devoted caregiver in a post apocalyptic orphanage, determined to find her missing children and push through her personal trauma to do so. Raskyuil was every inch the security man for the carnival and quickly became obsessed with and protective of MaryAnne. There wasn’t a lot of “get to know you” that happened on page. Most of their relationship was sexy time and working together to find the children. I thought the mystery itself was pretty well done.
Spice: 3.5/5
Triggers: violence, gore, dismemberment, death of children (off page), burning alive of side characters (brief), horror themes, peril and kidnapping and captivity of children, drugging of children, pregnancy, animal attacks, eaten alive (very brief, mostly off page), PTSD symptoms
This was the perfect book for the Halloween season💖 I so enjoy S.J Sanders universe of the Ravening . two worlds torn apart and brought together were humans and "Others" now share the world together. The Carnival was like going back in time to when I was a child and went to the Carnival that came to my hometown. It was magical exciting fun but also had a few elements of the scary. This book took the scary to the next level but in the best way. MaryAnne and Raskyuil a human and a troll must join forces to save children from some malevolent force that has captured them and made them disappear. Is the magical Carnival to blame or is it something more targeting both humans and monsters alike. You need to read and find out. As always the world building is fantastic , the characters have incredible chemistry and the story truly makes you think about how you view others and how making assumptions can steer you down the wrong path. Highly recommend I hope to read more from this particular section of the universe! 🌟💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥🌟💖
What a great book! Set in a dystopian universe, where there are monsters everywhere. Mary Ann lives in an orphanage helping with the children. Coming to town is carnival, with mysterious creatures and magic, trolls and goblins. The next morning the children are gone. Mary Ann goes after the children, she dreams of the troll. This is her journey, filled with danger and mystery. She meets RASKYUIL and he joins in the search. Along the way find their mates. Good gothic paranormal romance with lots of mystery, danger and romance. Great world building and characters. Can’t wait for next book from this writer
I don't understand why things like this need to be in romance. ...His lust certainly did. It had not stirred in such a way since he had reached adulthood and discovered the pleasure of what he could do with it until his interest in meaningless rutting had waned. Once every hundred years or so his need swelled within him, and he would take care of it with a willing nymph eager for his seed even if it were impossible for him to breed any female other than his mate.
A romance with a scare! Missing children, a determined young woman on a wild search for them, a troll seeking his goddess-sent mate, the dangers of a fae carnival. The perfect ingredients for a fascinating, fantastic fantasy. Enjoy! It’s eerie, chilling, brimming with frightful moments, and yet, a wonderful romance flourishes. Just wait - I’m sure the ending will thrill you as much as it did me!
Carnival was perfect for the Halloween spirit in all of us. A little Gothic creepiness with a little mystery. Maryann & Raskyul’s mating pull was steamy and was of two people who needed each other. Hoping our Shy Mountain Troll wil find his mate soon. Can’t wait for Barton & Sabrina’s story.
There's nothing to dislike about this book but liked everything about it? It has drama, kidnapping, adventure, mystery, and so much more? The characters were awesome and you will definitely enjoyed reading this book. A must buy and ready to read the next book in the series.
Maryanne and her troll mate are well suited to each other and the heat level is high like I like it! It was just the right blend of thriller, romance and magic that had a very sweet happy ending.
This book is not what I expected at all! The villain is someone you least expect it. And I’m happy to see that the fml and mml end up happily ever after and we get an epilogue.
I really enjoyed this book and the storyline. I love the hero MaryAnn very great read. If you want suspense, adventure, and steamy this is the book for you
