Off Script #2

Beyond the Fame: A Hate To Lovers Romance

Beyond the Fame is the woman who makes me question everything . REBECCA My life has been a whirlwind of heartbreak, beginning with the death of my brother when I was 18-years-old. He was my best friend. I worked through my grief by writing a book about his life and that book was turned into a movie. That's when I met him. Jensen Boliver, the movie's director. He's younger than me, controlling, and infuriating. For four years, I've denied my attraction to him because every time he shows an ounce of compassion, he takes it away and I refuse to beg for mere crumbs of kindness, no matter how attracted to him I am. Now we're in Hawaii for our friends' wedding. The hotel has lost my reservation...and Jensen shows up with a solution. "You can stay in my suite." JENSEN I grew up fat in fatphobic Hollywood. All my life I was told to hate myself and my body. Then I met her. Rebecca Taylor. She's beautiful, intense, and makes me feel things I've convinced myself I didn't deserve. So, for four years, I let her believe I hated her. I don't. I never did. How could I when she’s everything I’ve ever wanted? Despite my hesitation, our attraction to each other has grown, and last year, we both caved. She let me have a taste, but the timing still wasn’t right. Now we're in Hawaii and sharing my suite, there’s no way this trip ends without her being mine.

Rebecca & Jensen are first introduced in Beyond the Bright Lights. While you don't have to read that book to read this one, it is highly recommended. Beyond the Fame ends with a happily ever after. You'll get more of them in the third and final book of the Off Script series.

This book has adult themes and deals with difficult topics including fatphobia, bullying, terminal illness (cancer), loss of a sibling, loss of partner, loss of a parent (off page/mentioned), grief, attempted suicide (off page) & suicidal thoughts, addiction & alcoholism, depression, parental abuse (mental), grief, graphic sex

The steam in this book is uh-mazing! I love a woman who can take charge, and Rebecca doesn't let anyone boss her around in the bedroom or outside of it. Sometimes the flashbacks felt a little choppy mixed in with the overarching plot, but the story itself was good. Jensen and Rebecca both deserved love and I'm happy they found it.

If you are into the enemies to lovers trope, realistic body representation with spice, or romantic book series that explores a friend group from different characters, this is a read worth your time. (This is book 2 of 3 that covers three men who met while they were teens on a TV show and became best friends.)

This was an enjoyable and quick read that explores a whole host of emotions and feels genuine. I actually teared up at one point. The internal struggles of plus-size characters learning self-love and acceptance were totally relatable and authentic. The spice is vivid and plentiful.

The writer thankfully included a trigger warning to start, which is helpful considering some of the topics included.

This book is so light hearted and very welcoming of acceptance and love. It was a quick read that left me smiling to myself and laughing along with the characters. I’m forever rooting for their love story.

Okay this was cute! I actually really enjoyed watching not only Rebecca and Jensen’s relationship grow, but see how they individually grew and accepted themselves. This was a fun little read and definitely had me chuckling at some points. Can’t wait to read Ray’s story!

Once again, author Settle Myer pens an unputdownable novel.

Rebecca arrives at a resort for her friends’ wedding when she finds out a mistake has been made and her reservation was lost. Conveniently, Jensen arrives and offers her the spare room in his suite. While he infuriates her, she has no choice but to accept. The history between them runs hot and cold – and is sure to be tested during their stay.

This story has it all – 40-ish FMC, plus-size rep, found family, body acceptance, enemies to lovers, and amazing spice. Each MC brings trauma to the table that they’re working on and affects the relationships around them.

As always, please note the content warnings before jumping in.

One of the few series that has consistently stirred up emotion in me (a near impossibility!), Beyond the Fame does an amazing job of handling tough topics in a delicate and authentic way.

Already looking forward to the third installment in this series!

Special thanks to the author for the ARC. All thoughts in this review are honest and my own.

I really like the way this author writes her characters and brings them to life. They have nuance and are flawed but really do want to be better. Its what makes them so damn likeable and captivating.

The main plot happens in Hawaii for Bruno and Ginger's wedding so we do get to see characters from the previous book. We do go back and forth through the years which helps to give us insight into both Jensen and Rebecca. Another thing this author does well.

Like the previous book in the series, this one showcases difference with a plus size mmc and an older fmc.

This isn't usually my preferred genre but I'm invested in these character's lives and I wanna see it through.

I am grateful to have received an ARC of Beyond the Fame!

Big girl rep is A++

I believe it's mentioned that this can be read as a stand-alone, but because there is so much reference back to the first book (Beyond the Bright Lights), I would definitely recommend reading them as a series.

**Possible Spoilers**

That being said, I did enjoy the callbacks to BtBL that led to a more in depth telling from either Jensen or Rebecca's perspective. Just being able to read their side on different situations such as the filming of Tyler's Team and their interactions to why Jensen was NOT happy about Mylan playing the role of Tyler to Rebecca's memories of Tyler was a nice touch.

Some of the monologues the characters would do felt a little out of place. The information was important to the story, but sometimes felt a little too much at once. I did enjoy the flashbacks, I hard time keeping up with the various time jumps though.

If I remember correctly, the ending of BtBL briefly hints at something between Jensen and Rebecca that definitely had me on the hook wanting to know if there was more to it. While I did end up predicting the ending, this was an easy read, the spice was top tier, and sucks you right in.

Romance must-read revolving around loving yourself to truly love another.

Follow MMC Jensen, a 30yr old director, and FMC Rebecca, a 39yr old author and screenwriter, in this dual POV. Years after the wrapping up the production of their joint movie, _Tyler’s Team_, Jensen and Rebecca meet again during their friends' Hawaiian destination wedding. Certain situations open up old wounds that still need healing. Forced into proximity, will they finally give into their long-term sexual tension?

The emotional turmoil, grief, self-acceptance, and non-romantic emotion is phenomenal! Jensen and Rebecca’s characters have grown since book one and thrive in their dedicated story. The two work through life changing events in this book (please ensure to read trigger warnings!) like grief, neglect, bullying, and body dysmorphia. Neither believe they will find love, but will fight like hell for the happiness of their found family. There is a beauty in them finding a connection and strength despite their pasts. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, the message of self-love, and the undeniable chemistry!

Let me start by saying that i love reading about fat people in love! give me all of it, pls. if you like fat main characters, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and some celebrity status thrown in, this book is for you. the spicy scenes? so good. the characters’ genuine attraction to each other’s bodies was amazing! the way their fatness was described and desired was everything. bravo settle myer, bravo.

that being said, i do feel like some of the book was lacking for me. some of the dialogue and story telling felt disjointed and rudimentary at times, making it difficult to stay invested in the story as much as i wanted to. i also felt like the flashbacks were almost unnecessary at times. i enjoy a good flashback and backstory as much as the next girl, but they felt a bit just haphazardly thrown in throughout, and those chapters could’ve been better spent more fully developing the characters and their relationship presently.

all in all, this was a good book about fat people finding love, and i’m so grateful for the opportunity to read and review an advanced reader copy!

Love this book!

Enemies to lovers. Older FMC. Realistic body types. This book has all the good things.

This is the second book in the series, the first being 'Beyond the Bright Lights.' This one takes place 4 years later and throughout the book, you get to see flashbacks of Rebecca and Jensen's interactions and how much they have grown as individuals. Their relationship is a long time in the making, but you don't have to wait long for the fireworks.

Both characters bring out the confidence in each other that they may have been self-conscious about in the past or may have been teased about. They are confident individuals, but there are still things that they second guess, as many people do, because of moments in their past. That is what is so great about finding that person who loves you even more when they know of that little quirk of yours or the thing you disliked they adore. That is what these two have.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the third one in this series.

Beyond the Fame is book two of the Off Script series by Settle Meyer.

Book two is in the same world as book one, this is about Rebecca who is the sister of Tyler, most of her personality was encouraged by him so when Tyler dies when she is just 18 she shuts down and struggles to let anyone in.

Jensen is the movie producer that is making the Tyler team film, he has to deal with the pain in the rear sister, the writer of the book and screenplay to the movie. It's pull and push, it's compromise but Jensen read the book, he knows how important the details are to Rebecca, and even tho she's annoying, there's something about her.

Settle does such great body positivity and I'm here for it, she gets it, she spins these characters and lets the average person really know what it's like to be bigger. I'm here for it!

I liked following Jensen and Rebecca and their journey to finally being themselves. Through struggles, insecurities and pain they made it!

Looking forward to book three! I need it now!

4.25 ⭐️

Fat Representation: mid sized FMC and plus sized MMC who has dealt with insecurities some that are explored and talked about in the book with past bullying, body dysmorphia and body shaming he would experience in the film industry.

Narration: duet narration and they did such an amazing job! I loved the audiobook and devoured it in a day.

🎥 Hollywood romance
💁🏻‍♀️FMC is older than him, close to 40: 8 ish year difference
🌶️: he likes Rebecca to be in control and command, steamy!!
🗡️: Ememies to Lovers

Themes explored: plus sized MMC and issues while in Hollywood as an actor turned director, friend battling addiction and grief- loss of a sibling. I think the author handled all the subjects with care and I appreciated that she showed healing and discussed therapy.

Overall I loved the story, plot and characters, I was swooning, giggling, blushing and having a good time. Some of the past time moments made for a little bit of a curve ball to follow with the audiobook but I cannot wait to read more from this author!

A grump who deserves love and an undercover queen getting back to herself

I really liked this book! I was excited to read about Rebecca and Jensen after getting glimpses of them from Lana and Mylan's book. I was not disappointed. 🥰

I really felt for Jensen. The flashbacks to the past were eye opening into how he became who we met in the first book. This one explores his growth, acceptance/loving himself, and how he can give that love to someone else.

I loved seeing Rebecca get back to herself. We get glimpses of who she was as child along with Tyler's influence on her. She sounded absolutely amazing until life happened and she let things dull her shine. By the end, I feel like she's back and it was so lovely.

Getting to see Lana and Mylan again was the best. I just adore them too.

It's kind of an assumed enemy to lovers romance. It seems instant, but it's been basically a 4 year slow burn for them, haha. This was a quick and delightful read! I'm super excited to read on for Rey's story. ❤️

This is what I would qualify a medium burn. It’s not slow as in you have to wait till like the end of the book to get to the space, but it’s not right off the bat. You meet Rebecca and Jensen in the first book of the series beyond the bright lights which is about Lana and Mylan. Mylan is playing Rebecca‘s brother in the movie adaptation of her book and Jensen is the Director. Most of this book is set after be on the bright lights so you do need to read the first book to understand the second but you do get flashbacks to when they were younger as well as during the filming process etc. etc.. I love this book I would have to say it’s just as good as be on the bright lights beyond the bright lights holds a special place for me, but this is still super good Miss Myer I’m gonna need you to give me more of Rebecca and Jensen’s story because you did not in this where you ended this lol.

Beyond the Fame is such a good example of a contemporary romance that is simultaneously sweet and spicy while still being realistic. The characters struggle with real issues, grow, and learn throughout the story. I enjoyed Jensen and Rebecca (the two main love interests) as well as the rest of the cast in their friend group. When we first meet Jensen and Rebecca in this book they are checking into a hotel for a friend's wedding although they've known each other for years. Because of this history they had with each other I loved getting the flashbacks to see important moments of their developing relationship and how they interacted at the very beginning. I much prefer being shown those moments rather than just being told they didn't always get along. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and am grateful I got the chance to read an ARC!

My little crab apples finally got their own book! 🥳

This story had me in a chokehold the entire time. I love the time jumps to show different aspects of their relationship and how their relationship changed over time. I also loved that this book was 4 years after the start of Beyond the Bright Lights. This allowed the author to show the character development of all of the characters shown so far in this series.
And the fat representation? Amazing as always. This book featured a Midsize Woman and a Plus Size Man that I think were portrayed wonderfully. I absolutely love Myer's fat representation, she kills it every time!
This series holds a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to see what Myer comes out with next. 🖤

Thank you so much Settle Myer for sending me an e-arc of this book for review. All thoughts are my own.

Beyond the Fame is book two of the Off Script series and takes place after Beyond the Bright Lights. Don’t have to read the first book, but it helps with Rebecca and Jensen’s backstory!

Rebecca is a mid size southern woman who has lived in the shadow of her brothers death for a long time. Jensen is a plus size man who has lived in Hollywood, where he was cast as the funny fat friend until he moved behind the camera to direct.

Together, the chemistry is explosive!

This is a fun book to read! The spicey scenes are very good. The flashbacks were a bit abrupt sometimes, but not enough to pull me out of the story.

I liked following Jensen and Rebecca and their journey to finally being themselves. Rebecca becomes Jensens champion and Jensen becomes hers. It’s sweet and fun!

Looking forward to book three!!

Jensen and Rebecca have disliked one another from their first meeting. Well, as much as one person can dislike another while still being ridiculously attracted to them.

The second installment of the Off Script series finds us in Hawaii for Bruno and Ginger's wedding. We get to catch up with Mylan and Lana from book 1 (swoon!) and dig deeper into Mylan and Jensen's friendship, as well as Rebecca's experiences of grief following her brother's death.

I loved this installment. I love an honest, husky hero who talks about his own experiences with fat shaming and body dysmorphia. This little found family is full of members who've gone through their own traumatic experiences and found each other in their healing and it's beautifully written!

Here's some spice to look forward to:
-Praise kink
-Breeding kink
-Hand necklaces and choking
-Balcony bang

Author Settle Myer weaves a body positive and spicy love story. The slow burn between Rebecca and Jensen is fire! The character development that Myer builds is full of depth and insight. She incorporates the realities of being judged for physical size and the journey to self acceptance that happens for so many people. She never sacrifices the passion and fire between these two very sexy characters though! 100% would recommend for anyone looking for a great, spicy, inclusive, sexy, well written read!

First, I would to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to have an ARC.

This book was slow for me to get into, but I binge read from about halfway to the end. I LOVE seeing the plus size representation, the characters are flawed and it makes them relatable, and I loved seeing Jenson and Rebecca get the HEA they deserved.

I love flashback scenes, but at times it felt a bit choppy. I think this is why it was harder for me to get into the book in the beginning.

I think it ended perfectly and I look forward to reading this author again.

Settle Myer holds my heart in her grasp

The thing about Settle's books is that they will break you down and heal you as they put you back together.
While this book isn't as detailed as book 1 in the series, it still tackles several triggering subjects without feeling like a sit-down conversation to convert you into a new belief system if that makes sense.
I love Jensen, I love Rebecca, and having the flashbacks provides a lot of background information of them.
I hope we get spin off Novella's of them and of the many amazing characters we met.

Can't get enough

She just keeps on giving! I cannot lie I waited to read book two because I knew I would want to jump right into book three. I have been so excited for the Rebecca and Jensen story since the love/hate build up in "Beyond the Bright Lights", let me tell you Settle did not disappoint. Steamy, captivating and wholesome, the imagery provided was top notch. Settle how did you do a story within a story? Because I would like to read Rebecca Taylor's book! Cannot wait for book three coming out 9/15.

Ennemies to lovers with positive body diversity

Settle Myer is amazing at taking broken, complex, and unperfect characters and giving us a heartwarming love story that allows the characters to grow and heal as individuals and as a couple. This story takes place over decades, and as much as a usually hate flashbacks, not only were they necessary, but they were beautifully done and still kept you hooked to the story. This book felt like a warm hug with, of course, a good amount of spice.
A great read

As with 'Beyond the Bright Lights,' this book is spicyyy. Settle Myer does an excellent job bringing her characters to life with real problems, nuance and feelings. Rebecca and Jensen are enemies to lovers, and I'm excited to see where their relationship might take them in the next book in the series. I don't think readers need to have read the first book to understand what's happening with the other characters - Myer covers the past through flashbacks and ongoing issues with her characters.

I absolutely loved this book. I laughed and cried with the characters. The author brought the characters to life with her writing. I really liked how the author brought in the mans perspective on him being overweight and having no confidence in himself. Then the women in the book was very confident in themselves. This is a wonderful quick read(got me out of my reading slump) and if I could give it more than five stars I would. Now off to read another book by this wonderful author.

Fun and hot! Wonderful characters! Very well written as well! I loved the flow of the writing. It flowed very smoothly and nicely. One of the best written books I’ve read this year.

This book took grumpy/sunshine to the next level and I loved it! It was definitely more grumpy than sunshine but still felt like a cozy romantic book at the same time. Definitely check the triggers because there are some strong topics discussed within the book, but to me the triggers made the main characters who they are. The spice is fantastic in it and I will take Jensen any day of the week with his filthy mouth :)

Jenny and Becky Forever ❤️

I have been anticipating this book since reading Beyond the Bright Lights and the announcement of Beyond the Fame. Settle Myer does not disappoint. The way Jensen and Rebecca both thought the other hated them. They way they fought for each other. The intimacy and heat between them will have you sweating and running to your own partner begging for it. Bruno and Ginger are meant to be as are Mylan and his donut Lana. More please.

Beyond the Fame is the second book in the Off Script series by Settle Myer.
It's an Enemies to Lovers with a Plus Size Male main character and Mid Size Female main character.
It can be read as a Standalone however I recommend reading the first book in the series Beyond the Bright Lights because those characters appear in this story and parts of their story interconnect with Beyond the Fame.

Jensen and Rebecca's story takes place with back and forth time frames over a 4 year period with the book being mostly focused on the present day at a friend's destination wedding in Hawaii where Rebecca is pushed to stay with Jensen since the hotel made a mistake with her reservation and she will need to either share the 2 bedroom suite Jensen has booked or find another hotel to stay. With these two being semi-famous, he is a former actor and Hollywood director and she is a best-selling author whose book was made into an Oscar-winning movie that Jensen directed 4 years ago. When they met these two have had the chemistry to set your kindles on fire from the first meeting.

This is a well-written story with plot and spice. I didn't notice any grammar or spelling errors if there are any they would be minor since I didn't notice.

In my opinion, this is a unique set of characters that this author actually can make you feel are like real people with real-life problems and emotions. I haven't seen a lot of authors take on the role of writing plus-size characters and getting it right with how we actually think. It's refreshing and this story made me fall in love with Jensen as he struggled with his own body image through the years and how he found to love himself. This is the second book I have read by Settle Myer the first was Beyond the Bright Lights both books have a connected story and I feel that you should read book 1 because it will bring even more answers to book 2 but you can skip it if you like.

To Author Settle Myer, thank you for writing about Plus Size Characters. This is an amazing storyline you have created that has made me laugh, cry, and want to scream at times but that is always great because it means I found a connection with the story that I have read and I found that in both Beyond the Bright Lights and with Beyond the Fame. Great Job.
