Caitlin Crews discovered her first romance novel at the age of twelve, in a bargain bin at the local five and dime. It involved swashbuckling pirates, grand adventures, a heroine with rustling skirts and a mind of her own, and a seriously mouthwatering and masterful hero. The book (the title of which remains lost in the mists of time) made a serious impression. Caitlin was immediately smitten with romances and romance heroes, to the detriment of her middle school social life. And so began her life-long love affair with romance novels, many of which she insists on keeping near her at all times, thus creating a fire hazard of love wherever she lives.
Caitlin has made her home in places as far-flung as York, England and Atlanta, Georgia. She was raised near New York City, and fell in love with London on her first visit when she was a teenager. She has backpacked in Zimbabwe, been on safari in Botswana, and visited tiny villages in Namibia. She has, while visiting the place in question, declared her intention to live in Prague, Dublin, Paris, Athens, Nice, the Greek Islands, Rome, Venice, and/or any of the Hawaiian islands. Writing about exotic places seems like the next best thing to actually moving there.
She currently lives in Oregon with her animator/comic book artist husband and their menagerie of ridiculous animals.
When it comes to genre fiction, we tend to overlook prose for an entertaining story. I’m always reminded what excellent prose this author has each time I pick up one of their Presents novels. CC truly is gifted.
I enjoyed everything about this story except for my one pet peeve in romance novels. I absolutely hate when the main couple spends too much time apart! For the sake of plot, I understand why authors do it, but I cannot stand when I get too many scenes of the characters talking to other people. I prefer in romance for them to at least be in the same room and aware of each other. the conversations with the teenage ward/sister of the hero were good, but maybe could’ve been scaled back. I felt like all the romance was towards the second half of the book.

Another classic Caitlin Crews romance - sexy Italian hero, buttoned up English heroine, a secret pregnancy - Venice & Tuscany as the backdrop…what more could you want?
This was an amazing book. The h was the headmistress at the school of the H’s sister. She was feisty, kind, honest, intelligent and beautiful, which she hid. She met the H one night in Venice, they had a brief affair which led to an unexpected pregnancy. She left the school to become the private tutor to his sister. He doesn’t recognize her and she didn’t know who he was. Eventually he sees her for herself as well as helping his sister. It’s a beautiful story that I couldn’t put down. I really loved the h. Great ending.
This book had an improbable beginning - virgin headmistress of an exclusive boarding reform school for the rebellious teen girls of the world’s 1%’ers - lets her charges - while away on holiday - give her a “sex me up” smoky eye, tousled long hair, sexy red dress makeover and set her loose on the city. Then, like an house-cat that escaped for the night, she has a reckless, unprotected, one night stand with our hero and they part without knowing each other’s names despite a night of dinner and dancing.
Surprisingly, this book unfolds from there like a literary treasure of a romantic fairytale.
