This book was quite a surprise at first I thought it was going to be boring but it was a good read and I rereading set up I think will read more of her books.
You guys, I have found the perfect book if you're still looking for a spooky read this month! This short story is only 152 pages but it packs so much into its eerie journey, I cannot recommend it enough! Let me give you a brief outline...
Emily can't believe her luck when she finds the steal of an apartment in Hollow Tower. The landlord is adamant she doesn't go up to the fifth floor and Emily confirms her promise but she ultimately ends up finding herself there one night. Emily doesn't realize what she's done...but she's about to find out.
This book is so addictive. I loved all the gore and disturbing scenes (I'm a little twisted like that) that brought the story together. D.R. Clark is a master author and definitely one I'll be putting on my watch list.
The Fifth Floor is available now on Kindle Unlimited.
I throughly enjoyed this novel! It’s a fantastic combination and balance of thriller and supernatural. It’s not scary but, at times I would feel creeped out or shocked (which is what you’d expect from reading a novel in this genre).
I could not put this down, it was engaging, shocking and suspenseful. I really hope they make this into a Netflix series as I would be the first one to watch it!
I was fortunate enough to get a free copy for my Kindle from Amazon during their December 2023 “Stuff your Kindle Day” and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to read this!
It’s well written, easy to read and I highly recommend you to read it!
Emily found the perfect apartment at an affordable price.. is it too good to be true? Of course, the answer is yes when she finds out why the landlord explicitly told her to keep out from the fifth floor!
This short story was fun and easy to read with a nice plot touching on some horror tropes that were explored in a way to entertain without boring the reader.
I thought there was enough action, mostly towards the end, with a nice building up to it! I would have liked more background for Mary Anne and Sadie but I'm hoping for a sequel..
If you enjoy quick horror reads with evil vengeful ghosts then this is for you!
Thank you D. R. Clark for a copy and this is my honest opinion.
From the first few sentences I was immediately absorbed in this book. The writing style is inviting you in and I felt like I was walking five steps behind the main character straight away. She is likeable and easy to empathize with. Her friend from work, however, got under my skin straight away. It is amazing how easily these characters are created and how true to reality they are, then you forget you are just the reader and not an onlooker with no say in anything. The story flows into a nightmare smoothly, packed with some grisly events. The storylines connect well and for a short story it was extremely enjoyable. Raced through it like a whirlwind.
This, this is my kind of book! As Ed & Lorraine Warren put it; infestation, oppression & possession - D. R. Clark done a phenomenal job with this. We’ve got possession, we’ve got spirit attachment, we’ve got witches, a malevolent spirit hellbent on murdering, well, anyone and everyone. One of the easiest 5 stars I’ve given. Run, don’t walk! Give this a read ASAP!

Summary: Emily moves into her own place after splitting with her cheating ex. Her new apartment is beautiful with a perfect view but something is off... Her land lord and the other residents keep warning her to stay off the fifth floor but give a different answer each time she ask why. After a girls night in with her friends, they stumble up the stairs and decide to see what exactly is going on with the fifth floor.
Thoughts: This was a fun shorter read. It was easy to keep up with and very well paced. It has a creepy haunting atmosphere and like-able characters, I would have however liked more character development all around. Over all I enjoyed it and I absolutely do recommend it. I found this one to be a good little horror palette cleanser with spooky fall vibes.
The Fifth Floor is a fun, spooky romp through a haunted apartment building perfect for spooky season! I really enjoyed this one. In fact, I read it in one sitting.
Emily moves into Hollow Tower's newest vacancy at a really good price. She doesn't want to question it too much since she's desperate to get out of her parents' place and be back on her own again after a terrible breakup. Everything seems to be as stated from the online ad. What more can she ask for? Her friends come over and get a little too tipsy. What's the harm in checking out the locked up, abandoned fifth floor that's strictly off limits per her landlord? Let's just say nothing good. They might have just released an evil entity into the world that's been locked away for some time. Maybe that's why the apartment was so cheap.
If you're into spooky, haunted reads filled with ghosts and death, look no further. The Fifth Floor is for you!
First off I want to thank D. R. Clark for providing me with a free copy for an honest review. I also want to say, sorry it took me so long to get this posted (life’s been nuts). Anyway, on to the good stuff!! I read this just in time for Halloween (but am late to posting the review). It was a great read that follows Emily who finds the apartment of her dreams and in her budget, only to find out the building it’s in is straight out of a nightmare. From witches to ghosts, Emily never dreamed her new home could have such a chilling impact on her life. I thought the book was really well paced. The characters were are pretty likeable, although no character development is really seen, but that’s okay I felt that it didn’t take away from the story at all. It has an eerie ambiance without being gory/too horror feeling. Definitely a great read for fall/spooky season.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was not disappointed! Well written, Immersive, great characters and a very good story.
After a break up that left Emily staying at her parents, she finally finds a flat in hollow towers, she falls in love with it immediately, but the landlord had a rule, don’t go on to the fifth floor, a rule she should’ve adhered to, but after a girlie night in one of her pals goes up to the fifth floor with Emily in tow, pleading her to turn back, a plea Chloe should have listened to! After finding a tatty old doll in the floorboards things take a drastic turn for the worst and Chloe finds herself with tales of the supernatural, possession and a ghost story to plague your dreams. How will she rid herself of this entity? You’ll have to read it to find out! Highly recommend
Emily thinks she’s hit the jackpot when she finds her dream apartment for a price that she can actually afford. The landlord warns her that the 5th floor is off limits and under no circumstances should she ever go up there. After a night spent drinking with friends, Emily’s friend Chloe decides that she wants to investigate the forbidden floor. Emily reluctantly follows. She soon realizes that the landlord’s warning should have been taken seriously.
This booked reeled me in right away and I didn’t put it down until I reached the end. If you’re looking for a great paranormal read for spooky season, look no further than The Fifth Floor!
If you're a fan of Freida McFadden, you'll love this gripping thriller by D.R Clark!
What would you do if your dream house/apartment was attainable? You'd sign the lease.
Emily came across her dream apartment, the only rule, not to go on the fifth floor. When Emily and her friend break this rule, dark things start to happen.
"The Fifth Floor" is the perfect mix of mystery, horror, and thriller! "The Fifth Floor" is available to purchase today!
When Emily moves into her new apartment, she is warned to stay off the fifth floor. When her and her friend break that rule little does she know what they have unleashed. For such a short book, this packs quite a punch. I loved it! I was hooked from the very first page. It was a gruesome, spooky and mysterious story with well thought out characters, both relatable and despicable and the plot flowed quickly towards the intense ending. I highly recommend.
“She didn't know to explain the feeling, just that something was wrong. Something was off in the world. Something she knew was going to cause her a great deal of misery.”
I thought this was super fun. It was a fast paced thriller. I finished this within a day. A few scenes absolutely freaked me out. (Which was great). A great read and can’t wait to see more from this author!
I only finished this because I don’t like to leave a book on DNF.
The characters had zero warmth and dialogue was mundane. I felt like even as short as this book was I could still have skipped half of it without missing anything needed for the plot. The only character I warmed to came 80% through and actually had a personality.
This is a fun read and perfect for entering spooky season. We follow Emily as she is trying to move on from her ex. She moves into a new apartment and things are going great until she and a friend disturb the fifth floor of the building…
What secrets are kept on the 5th floor? A great quick read with a supernatural backbone. This little book pulled me in very quickly and did not disappoint with the story line. Excited to read more from this author!
Wonderful book. I started reading it while I was reading Ed Lorraine Warren books so I felt it have same appeal. This fictional story seem very nice to me. I surely recommend others to read it.
Such a great read! I loved the fast paced thriller and didn’t know what was going to happen next. I wished it was a little bit longer but that’s just me personally. I usually don’t read shorter books but I really enjoyed it. I also loved the supernatural/paranormal aspect of it as well! Definitely recommend this book!
After having recently moved back home with her parents after breaking up with her boyfriend, Emily desperarately wants her own place but with rent prices so high she struggles to find something she can afford so imagine her delight when she sees a listing for an apartment in Hollow Towers thats within her budget, she goes to view the property and falls in love with it and it even has a beautiful the view over the park. The only condition the landlord gives her is that she must not enter the 5th floor, no problem Emily assures him and moves into Hollow Towers, where she settles in very confortably.... until one night she invites her friends over for drinks and one of them breaks the golden rule and enters the 5th floor and what comes next is the stuff of nightmares!!!
I Absolutely devoured this book in one sitting!! The characters and storyline played out like a movie and i would love to see The 5th Floor on NetFlix!
I purchased The 5th Floor from Amazon and i give it 5 massive stars for this fantastic, captivating, supernatural thriller, cant wait for D. R. Clark's next book.
