So, idk how to feel about this book. I guess it's okay? Not bad, not amazing either.

I didn't read the first book, so I have no clue whether the MCs here have already known each other since then. Anyway, Luca (34) and Natalya (22) got married to unite their family and form an alliance.

On their wedding day, Luca's ex-fb or ex-mistress, (idk what to call her) Jessica, came to the event and kissed Luca in front of their guests. Natalya saw this and ran away, because, hello, that's rude and humiliating! Then, when she got back to the reception, the OW was already gone, but it was never shown how Luca did that, and this was never addressed in the story at all.

So, Natalya, the doormat acted like the kiss didn't happen, and they went to their honeymoon. During their three weeks in Paris, Luca treated her like a queen, because little did she know, it was part of Luca's plan to manipulate her and make her fall in love with him. And once he's done and has Natalya under his palms and pregnant, he'll go back to being the feared leader that he is.

There were time jumps during her pregnancy, and Luca left her on her own most of the time. He was always away doing his job, whatever that is. She's already hurting that she's doing it alone despite having a "husband," and to add more pain, she sometimes saw Luca photographed with the ow. He didn't cheat; to be clear, he never even engaged with the ow, but he said they move in the same circles, so it is inevitable that they would be at the same event.

Then, on the day Natalya gave birth, Luca had a meeting with another family, and this was important to him. His second in command, Dario, told him that his wife was about to give birth, but instead of excusing himself for the meeting, he ordered Dario to go to the hospital in his stead. He deliberately chose not to attend his own son's birth because the business took precedence over everything else, and he wanted these people to know that he was not driven by his feelings for his wife. Stupidest thought I've ever read!!!

Natalya gave birth, and this is when she truly realized that Luca would never care for her. I think almost two months have passed, and she is no longer happy and is showing signs of postpartum depression. And Luca, during this time, realized what a huge dick he was and started to show that he cares for his wife and son. But Natalya was not having any of it and became distant and a bit indifferent towards him. She also found out that Luca promised to give their son to her parents to raise when he turns eight, but he said it was only the alcohol talking and wouldn't go through with that.

She was living a double life and was an excellent hacker. But one of the groups she has stolen traced her, and they kidnapped her and her son. Natalya got separated from her son to lure away their abductors. She drove their attention away successfully, and in the end, she protected her son, but it's not until two years later that she will be found again.

She had amnesia for the last two years and made a new life in a small town. Fortunately, or not, Dario saw her in this town and informed Luca about this new information. Once it was confirmed that it was really Natalya, Luca and his men drove to the place to take her home.

I honestly enjoyed Luca seeing Natalya kiss someone else, not just once but twice. He was raging and about to kill the guy, but this gives me so much satisfaction as I remember their wedding day and his kiss with the OW. Now he knows how it feels to see someone you love kiss another person. Anyway, the good thing Luca did here was remain celibate during those two years because he didn't believe that his wife was dead.

They said he would grovel; that's why I had so many hopes for this story. Because he was a grade-A asshole in the first 40%-ish of the book. People around him call him the king of indenial and avoidance because that is what he was in the first half of the book. But the "grovel" here was utter crap. It was only two weeks, and I can't even call that freaking groveling.

They were sharing kisses and quick pecks, even though Natalya was supposed to be mad at him. I honestly thought she would hold her ground because, despite not remembering anything, the pain was so deeply ingrained in her, and her heart apparently knows how much she was hurt by this person. But unfortunately, she gave in to the attraction and hormones but only set some boundaries by not being intimate with him.

The first week, Natalya avoided Luca, but he sent her flowers and chocolates every day. Then the next week, he planned a trip for them to a private island. They talked and did domestic stuff together, but most of it was more about telling than showing. Then, not even three days on the island, she was more than ready to jump his bones because she couldn't stop her attraction or whatever. And I was like, girl, are you for real? What he did was the bare minimum, and you're ready to give him another chance already? He didn't even put in so much effort and hard work to make up for all the things he did in the past. So how is this even called grovel? It was disappointing and was so meh.

Tbh, I already lost interest in the last 15% of the book. There were a lot of things that happened; there was a (almost) death match fight, kidnapping, killing, and everything was like thrown in the end just to add another plot. It was a bit overwhelming for me.

Overall, this was okay. But I think Luca didn't fully redeem himself, and what he did here was not enough for all the pain he caused Natalya. She was a better person, that's for sure. Anyway, though this didn't work for me, I'm sure other readers will appreciate it.

The way the hero addressed the OW situation was the most unforgivable thing in this book. His mistrsss shows up at their wedding and kisses him in front of God and everyone, humiliating the h… and all he says is “sorry about Jessica”…. Later, He has abandoned his pregnant wife in his mansion and refuses to live with her… he says the Ow’s name in his sleep, and when she asks him about it, he gaslights her and gets annoyed about her asking about his past… then he’s photographed squiring the OW around and goes on trips with her… leaving his pregnant wife alone in his mansion and not even telling her he was traveling …the papers are gossiping about them and mocking the h…. And when the h confronts him, he gaslights her again and tells her “we run in the same circles”…. Sure he’s not cheating but he’s still an ass. I’d like to tell you that this is one of the things that he grovels about in the 2nd half of the book, but that is not the case. He shrugs it off AGAIN at 77% when the h asks him about her (this is during the time the H is actively working to win her back) and tells the h that the OW was just convenient because she has daddy issues and he wanted to get cozy with her dad. 😐😐😐 THAT’s the explanation?? How freaking lame. Please tell me how it’s “convenient” to humiliate your wife? The whole world thjnks he’s f*cking around with his ex mistress and he just shrugs like it’s no big deal. At 77%, when he is desperately trying to prove his love and that he’ll put the h first, he’s actively not acknowledging how he put business over the h’s feelings. Even when she’s missing he’s still going around with that woman… the woman who intentionally ruined his beloved wife’s wedding day. Why on earth would this man be within a mile of someone who hurts his h??? This makes no damn sense. She’s not even that important… just “convenient”…

And… let’s not let the h off the hook. Not only does she cave every time he gaslights her, never holding her ground, she also initiates sex with this guy after he told her point blank that he doesn’t love her and never will. She blames it on the pregnancy hormones making her horny. I found this infuriating. There is no amount of horny that would induce me to initiate sex with a man who I suspected was having an affair and who told me he’d never love me. The very last thing I’d be interested in is sex with that man. Particularly pregnant sex. It was so cringe.

Look, I love asshole heros. OW drama and “doormats” are my JAM, but this just ain’t it. Add in the ridiculous “hacker” plot, all the telling and not showing, and the excessive amount of mafia business, and this book just tanked. The first half had some good angsty moments but the 2nd half dragged. I skimmed the last 20%. I’m sorry but not having the OW on page, the H not actually cheating, and the H’s celibacy during the separation didn’t save this book. I can’t buy an HEA when the issues aren’t addressed properly. He still doesn’t get it, so who’s to say he won’t continue to find the OW convenient? He never said he won’t see her anymore. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ugh! NO - Just NO! DNF.

I saw folks say it was safe and semi-rave about it but I just can't stomach this asshole MMC - and the doormat FMC.

Why is it so necessary in 2024 for women writers to write abusive male characters and consider them "Hero" material? Why can't female characters be strong, independent and take no crap?

Sadly, this isn’t working for me. It had potential, I was hooked at first, but these characters have lost their initial appeal. I enjoy asshole-y heroes but Luca, not so much. He’s all over the place. On the one hand, I don’t find him romantic enough, he’s too dry, arrogant, aloof. On the other hand, when he is romantic or in his feelings, I don’t buy it. It comes off phony, unconvincing, and even cheesy. Another pattern I noticed: One moment he’s an alpha, the next he’s a total beta. Surprisingly, it’s when he’s a beta that I want to break his face.

The heroine - She’s a doormat, plain and simple. I can tell she has a spine in her, but for some reason, it’s nonexistent when she’s around Luca. Almost halfway through the book and I’m tired of watching her be submissive while he acts incredibly insensitive and uncaring. This ruined the angst potential because she just passively accepts his behavior. No fun. Based on another review, the grovel isn’t enough and he’s forgiven easily. I’m moving on to greener pastures.

You’re mine, and I’m done pretending that you’re not.”

As a self proclaimed alphahole addict, the second I read this blurb, I knew I'd be all over it. Arranged marriage, ruthless mafia antihero? Sign me up I say!
You’re mine, and I’m done pretending that you’re not.”Up here, I wasn’t the boss of the Chicago crime family. Up here, I was merely a mortal man falling in love with his family.

An arranged marriage doesn't sound like one paved in love. But young Natalya is instantly enraptured with her future husband. He may be a ruthless in everything that he does, but he's soft and attentive with her. But what Natalya doesn't know, is Luca is not above playing the romantic to get to what he needs from her; an heir. And when Natalya gets pregnant, things take a turn in a direction she never saw coming.

This was a quick paced page turner and I was instantly hooked with Luca. Natalya, admittedly, did take me a minute to warm up to. She's not at all what she seems, but she sure hides it well. I definitely did myself a disservice by not reading book one first, because there's some backstory to her that makes it feel like you start this book already partially through her development. But then it didn't take me long to connect to her and her very many layers. She's a fascinating mix of fierce and vulnerable. The second half of this book, we get an entirely different side to her and I loved it.

There's a little bit of everything here; suspense, action, mafia, betrayal, revenge. The chemistry was delicious and the grit was the perfect addition. I'm definitely hooked on this series and will immediately be reading the first book.

Not really spoiler since first scene:
No Luca did not invite the ex to the wedding, she gatecrashed it. That was my intent. I thought it was clear, and I'm sorry it wasn't. And of course, if I did fixate on it. How did she do it if it's tight security? Easy, she could have gone as a guest of one of the invited because of who she is.

What makes an epic grovel to me may be different for others. Reading is so subjective. For me, I like what is called an alpha grovel. I do not like emasculating my heroes nor have them have a personality transplant. I like my heroes to maintain their edge while they grovel...especially here with Luca being a mafia don.
But you know what I love reading and writing? Karma. ;)

I don't think my readers are ready for a book like this from me.
Luca is devious, manipulative, and arrogant. I love him.
It's the hero redemption arc you've been waiting for. ;)

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: arranged marriage
Angst: 😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Absolutely FLOVED this book - it had me completely tied up in knots! It was extremely well written, fast paced, and frequently had me sweaty-palmed, gripping my kindle, waiting for various shoes to drop. I seriously wanted to unalive Luca multiple times. Complete alphahole. SUPER manipulative. But in the end, he completely came through for Natalya... after an appropriate grovel, lol. Natalya started off as a smart girl, who was naive even while her instincts were good, but she was able to have amazing growth and it was completely believable given her circumstances. Luca did as well. His absolute panic at developing feels at first to his willingness to do anything for Natalya and their son by the end completely endeared him to me despite myself. Highly recommend and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Little too raunchy for me but a good story may be spoilers below

Written well and I liked the hero and heroine. I was as confused as the h w!as when his attitude changed. He could be so cold. And I couldn't believe the deal he made. Just awful. I hated the long separation but at least he kept his wedding vows. She almost didn't and I know she had amnesia but I expected more. There were so many sub plots and double crosses and it was hard to keep track. But I did love the ending. Too many
explicit smex scenes for this old lady. But that's just me.

I think I enjoyed this more because I went into it not expecting a book boyfriend situation. 😂

Luca and Natalya have an arranged marriage but he manipulates her into falling in love with him. He quickly gets her pregnant and then pulls back, constantly hurting her feelings and leaving her alone all the time.

The beginning gave ALL the angst, and I actually liked that part! He’s afraid of getting close and tells her he’ll never love her, among many other things.

I felt super bad for Natalya. She calls herself a doormat, but she was far from the worst I’ve seen. I did wish sometimes she wouldn’t sleep with him, but I understood it.

She does have a huge secret of her own in the form of her being a hacker and taking down sex traffickers.

I actually loved when she pulled back from him emotionally after she had their baby. He lets her and she seems like she has postpartum depression as well, and I honestly thought the grovel would start then.

But then she’s taken and there’s a two year time jump!

This lost steam for me then. I guess the amnesia was there to add mystery or tension but for me it sort of took it away? I would rather him get back in her good graces when she was being cold. And yes she does get her memory back, but the angst wasn’t hitting the same for me.

Luca groveled sort of, but I just wasn’t that moved by it?? Was it just me? Who knows. To me, that time needed to be more in depth and actually show a lot of their conversations instead of telling me.

I actually found myself wanting to see her spending more time with her son who’s 2 years of life she missed out on.

So sadly because of my mood at this point in the book, them reconnecting and then his boxing match fight just didn’t do much for me.

So overall, I thought it was ok but had potential to be better. But I can see how others may like it!

Safety:
•triggers: usual mafia things, murders, kidnapping, mentions of sex trafficking, etc.
•virgin h (she did have an ex bf she did some stuff with - she tells Luca she’s not a virgin but never had penetrative sex)
•Some OW drama in the form of his ex kissing him briefly at their wedding (he kicks her out immediately, but why was she there? 🤔) She also is photographed at the same places as him a few times but he says they just run in the same circles. I honestly don’t think she was needed in the story but he doesn’t seem to care about her.
•OM drama - Luca is super jealous of the man who likes Natalya when she has amnesia - she kissed him a few times but she doesn’t like him like that and they never slept together
•Both celibate during separation

Amnesia trope is my weakness.
So i decided to read this after resisting it 2 days.

But… due to several reviews complaining about hero’s atrocious behaviour towards heroine in the beginning, I started this book from 38% mark.

So I enjoyed what I read and it was very well written.

-Jerk hero x secretly hacker and brilliant heroine.
-marriage of convenience, second chance, amnesia.
-TW, KU, read on your own risk because he was an epic jerk in the beginning.

P.s he was celibate during separation another reason I decided to read this.

Reading this book felt like riding a rollercoaster of events, emotions and twists. To say I didn't anticipate the pivotal moment is an understatement.
I started 2024 with a literal BANG 💥 because 😩LUCA!
This reformed A-hole made sure to test my every nerve, and when I think he's done enough,He surprises me!
But knowing Victoria Paige was cooking the best redemption arc, I focused on the grovel in the making.
AND
BOY👏🏼

DELIVER!!👏🏼

Luca and Natalya's relationship felt realistic, this is how I imagine a rocky Arranged mafia marriage would look like.
A hopeful wife, ready to love, a husband married to his job and focused on growing his business who considers love and family are a weakness

Then he gets his WAKE UP CALL, and he's literally and figuratively on his knees begging for second chances and offering his eternal love and “That I will always chase you.”😩 THIS MAN. Does everything for his woman and son💗.

he fu©ked up but he also redeemed himself, kept seeking his Tesoro's approval and trust.

And what further made this MORE EPIC, Natalya wasn't a pushover, nor a doormat ,she also was the bad-a$$ heroine in a subtle way🤫with her own Secrets.

So be prepared, patient, bear with him, trust the process, he's coming around, and coming HARD ( pun intended 🤭). He'll panic, he'll probably mess up again but HE'LL NEVER BACK-DOWN .

“Natalya.” Her name was three syllables of choked emotions. “I love you so much, tesoro. Please say you still love me.” I felt every word of my tortured whisper. I had never begged anyone to love me. But I would beg her until the end of time and I had my wife’s love again. One”

This book was based on the miscommunication trope. Literally to much unnecessary drama and it was way too long like I was ready for this to end. Some scenes were good hence the two stars

This is an "arranged marriage” mafia book that turns into a “marriage in trouble” angsty story. It’s got amnesia – a trope I hate – but that wasn’t the reason this book didn’t work for me. Even without amnesia, this wouldn't have landed.

Something about this book feels very cynical, to me. It feels like the author was looking at BookTok, and saw that these tropes are hot right now – angsty arranged marriage, grovel. And so, she rushed to write a book to fit those tropes to capitalize on that.

I don’t know this author, I can’t say for sure that’s what she did! But this story lacks a sense of soul. A sense that these characters are real people with depth that we should care about. The characters feel like pieces on a chessboard that get moved around, and plot events happen to them, but they don’t have depth, or fixed personalities. (That’s also how I feel about Shantel Tessier’s books, like The Ritual – so, if that book was fine for you, this one might also be fine for you).

For example, in this story, the hero plans to get the heroine to fall in love with him, because he thinks that will make her loyal to him -- and meanwhile, he won’t love her (because he's a mob boss and love makes him weak, obviously). So, he’s nice to her on their honeymoon and pretends to love her, then he turns cold. But, how does that plan make any sense? After he turns cold, he kinda loses her loyalty! He also later tells her that he won't love her. What was the point of being loving to manipulate her into thinking he loves her, if he's later like, "I don't love you?" Any good manipulator is not supposed to just say the truth that he was trying to hide! He sucks at this!

My problem wasn't that he was a dick - I like plenty of terrible fictional men! My problem was that he was a BORING dick who was poorly written and not fleshed out. He keeps contradicting himself. I think we're supposed to think he's “conflicted.” But, the result was that it felt like he had no fixed personality. He just kept changing on a dime between scenes.

Same with the heroine. She kept getting upset by his coldness, but then she'd immediately sleep with him. It was impossible for any "angst" in this story to land, because emotion doesn't stick when the characters have the memory of goldfish, contradicting their earlier behavior in each new scene. He was mean to her, then suddenly 1 scene later, he was warm again. She was heartbroken by his treatment, then suddenly 1 scene later, she was cozying up to him, again. That's not good angst. It's just poorly developed characters constantly flip-flopping.

These characters were just wooden dolls for the story to play with, in order to advertise this book in a graphic for TikTok with a list of tropes ("Angsty arranged marriage!" "Grovel!"). And yeah, sure - "dolls for the story to play with" is what fictional characters are, in a way. But, a good book is supposed to make us forget that, and convince us that they're real people worth caring about. I won't be picking up anything else by this author.

First book from this author!

I was promised a good grovel and it most certainly delivered.

Yet there were certain things that I hated.

Things that are completely unacceptable in a fictional world and one of them is — cheating — I'm sorry, but ML kissing anyone after getting married to FL is just the lowest of the lows.

Here were some good parts and bad parts. obviously

I loved the entire grovelling part and the FMC was *chef's kiss* in Part 2.

However, in Part 1 she was a doormat and she acknowledged that herself later on, so ding ding ding* points to her.

Overall an enjoyable book and it definitely made me feel all the emotions. The sexy parts were well written and the angst was on fleek.

This book will make you feel all the emotions!!

Oh My Freaking Goodness... This one is straight going as my Top Read of 2024 and also going straight into my Re-read piles for sure. Ahhhh..... Luca and Natalya were freaking fire and their story Unputdownable.💋💋💋

Right from the first page, I was totally into this ride.
We see Luca and Natalya get married, a match as arranged by their families.

Their chemistry is on fire right from the start. As sparks are flying alongwith their steamy times together, Natalya slowly starts falling for her handsome husband not knowing her husband's intentions and how love doesn't seem to be on the cards for her.

For Luca Moretti his duties come first and even though he has fiery chemistry with his wife yet he doesn't want a woman to become his weakness.

I WAS TEAM NATALYA RIGHT FROM THE START. I also fell for Luca alongwith Natalya because that man just has that kinda domineering personality that I found so hot.

I loved the whole experience of seeing these two build a life together, exploring new things and the marital life that they lived.
It was interesting to see their struggles but also not being able to keep their hands off each other.

Also, what intrigued me was that Natalya might be good wife and a sweet girl but she had a secret identity that her husband had no idea of and I didn't know what would happen when he did.

I was all for this ride not knowing what was going to happen next when... BOOM 🤯....THAT SHOCKER OF A TWIST 😯... I so never saw coming had me all the more FREAKING EXCITED for what would happen next.

Luca is OBSESSED with his wife and when fate throws the biggest curveball his way, I really liked the new version of Luca Moretti that we get to see.

This one is definitely a MUST MUST READ if you love your stories with loads of spice and endearing characters that will make you fall in love with them while also having so many twists and turns that it will have you wide-eyed and on the edge of your seat.
Definitely be ready to feel lots of emotional highs and lows and also falling in love again and again.
Ahhhhh.....ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS ONE.
Can't wait for more from this series.💋💋💋💋💋

Ok, I may or may not have judged this prematurely. I was about to DNF it and then BAM, I was sucked into a huge plot twist that I couldn't see coming even if it looked me in the face.

Let's get into why I wanted to DNF this, one reason; Luca is an asshole. Just as simple as that. And not in a cruel way, I have read about arranged marriages where the husband is just plain cruel with no reason, but Luca is worse, he makes her fall in love with him just to sweep the rug from under her feet and make her feel worthless. And then he does it again, and again. Then gets her pregnant and tosses her aside like she's a whore or something.

" I care for you, but I will never love you. I will never love you in the way you imagine in your romance novels"
way to crush a girl's dreams Fabio!

But then, we get the huge ass plot twist and I don't even know what came over me, my brain short-circuited for a couple of minutes and I kept staring at the words and I had to run and rant to my friend who read this before I did, I don't know how she could keep that fact to herself while I am buzzing to talk about it, but I can't for fear of spoiling the best plot twist of all plot twists.
And from that moment, I didn't know what came over me, I forgot about everything I needed to do that day, my priority was to know how Luca got to grovel and beg for his second chance and how to fix his marriage and boy did he deliver on that.

The only thing that always gives me a hard time is the mafia talk, as much as I am focused on the plot I always lose track of how things work and the relations between clans and the plethora of different characters

When it comes to Victoria's books, I can never read one without falling in love with the characters and their relationships.

I was craving some mafia drama and it delivered so it is still safe to say I enjoyed this book as much as I can. The toxic mafia husband was cringe but what did I expect? Made the story more dramatic though.

Ooof the angst was angsting in this one.
Luca was brutally cruel in the first part.
I really loved the second part and how he witnessed Natalya kiss another man. I was here for it!!
I enjoyed having Luca sweat when Natalya remembered all the bad shit first. That was brilliant.
The last 15% confused me a bit that’s why I’m giving it 4 stars even though I had a great time reading it

DNF only a few pages in, March 2025

It moved too fast, I was uncomfy with their first time together and the dialogue wasn’t my favourite.

Not really a fan of the amnesia story that takes the h away from her kid, but this story was okay.

This is another paint by numbers Mafia-Romance story.
One that also gets cringingly meh and boring... and sappy!

Still, I'm giving it a 3.
