Grumpy Player

Marrying the nanny wasn’t my biggest mistake… falling for her was.

Being injured on the ice doesn’t just make me a grumpy goalie, it makes me a frustrated single dad unable to care for my daughter… or myself.

Ellie is the perfect candidate— kind, patient, beautiful, and looking for a place to call home after a falling out with her family.

It’s a win-win, until my desire for her nearly makes me lose my mind. My restraint is hanging by a thread, and I’m one sponge bath away from snapping. When I finally do, our chemistry proves explosive.

Suddenly, everything I love is on the line. My family, my career… my heart.

How can I convince Ellie I’m more than just a grumpy player? I’m hers.

This is a full length hockey romance with an HEA. There is no cheating but there is a grumpy dad who is a hockey player and a sunshine nanny who have explosive chemistry.

Book Tropes: Dual POV, Sports (Hockey) Romance, Nanny x Single Dad, Fake Fiancé / Marriage of Convenience, & Grumpy x Sunshine

Ellie hasn't had much contact with her family in 5 yrs. She is very close with her grandmother. But, she feels lost in the world, not knowing what career path to take. She loves painting landscapes, and being there for her friends and family.  She has always lived in NYC. When she meets Connor there is an instant connection they both have.

Connor is a NHL Hockey Goalie for the New York Rangers. He is also a single dad to Sydney, who is 6. He is in need of a nanny, and one of the other players, his girlfriend, Patty, is Connor's  private physical therapist, recommends her friend Ellie for the nanny position. Connor has been hurt, and is out for the season. Patty has been working with him to get him back on his feet and the ice.
Connor's ex - Sydney's mom is trying to come back into the picture and get custody of Sydney. Connor goes to a lawyer who suggested that it would be better if he was married. Connor proposes a fake marriage idea to Ellie. However, both have very strong feelings towards one another, and nothing is fake about how their chemistry is with each other.

Will Connor be able to keep his daughter, or will she go to the evil mom back to Canada? Will Ellie & Connor be able to pull off the ruse of a 'fake' marriage and fool everyone? Even though they have real feelings for each other?

The author kept mentioning that Patty is Connor's private physical therapist. Patty is no longer with the NHL Ranger Hockey Team. She kept reiterating the relationship between Connor & Patty. Not sure why we had to keep mentioning it every few pages / chapters.

I did receive a free ARC book copy. I am freely leaving an honest book review.

Massive thanks to the author & Grey’s Promo for the gifted arc, which I voluntarily read & reviewed.

Grumpy Player by R.C. Stephens is a lovely combination of sweet & spice as well as heartwarming & heartbreaking in this hockey romance. Grumpy Player takes place when the professional goalie, Connor, gets severely injured & the single dad of 6 year old, Syd, needs help during his recovery. Enter Ellie, the surprising sunshine to his grumpy, who is struggling after a series of bad luck & tough times. However, her luck may be changing when her friend, Patty, suggests a new nanny job for the team’s injured goalie.

Grumpy Player is a great rec for fans of…
🥅Hockey Romance
🥅Single Dad
🥅Hockey Goalie Meets Nanny
🥅Marriage of Convenience

I absolutely adored Connor’s unwavering love & fierce protectiveness of his daughter. They were such a precious unit together & it was beautiful watching Ellie waltz into their lives. I also appreciated Ellie’s relationship with her grandmother, Nana. The lovely familial moments were heartwarming to watch. But watching Connor, his daughter & Ellie together as a trio were my favorite parts.

I enjoyed this one a lot more than the previous book. There were times I still found some repeated sentences but this one pulled the emotion out of me a lot more. I really like when I can feel feelings from stories, so I was happier with this one.

If you are looking for a sweet & spicy single dad romance, Grumpy Player could be a good recommendation for you!

Connor is a single dad and Goalie for a pro hockey team. He gets injured and is bedridden and needs help with his adorable daughter, Syd. Enter Ellie - Patty's friend who instantly connects with Syd. I loved the attraction between Connor and Ellie from the start. Connor tries to remain neutral and not act on his feelings, and at times, it is frustrating. Ellie and Syds' relationship was absolutely adorable, and I loved Syd. Overall, this was a quick read, and I enjoyed the storyline and look forward to the other players' stories.

The synopsis might suggest this book is primarily from the MMC’s point of view but it’s actually a dual POV book with the reader learning (I think) much more about the FMC, her history and family than you do about the MMC. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing, I’m just not sure the synopsis really does the book justice.

Our MMC is injured and has a young daughter. Our FMC finds herself homeless after subletting an apartment but gets kicked out in the middle of the night. Her friend happens to be a physical therapist working for the team the MMC plays for. And he needs a nanny … and then a wife!

This book -
Sports romance (that’s easy on the sport)
Age gap where the FMC is older than the MMC
Athlete - nanny
Fake fiancé
Instant attraction but a slow burn
Cute kid (with some grief related trauma)
Fractured family dynamics
Poor little rich girl
Found family

There were also some dynamics with the MMC’s ex that were dealt with a little differently in this book (a good thing).

The relationship built through shared experiences experiences, communication and empathy. And one little girl. It’s a nice bittersweet story - my only thoughts were the conversations whilst good, sometimes were like they were being practiced rather than being part of organic conversation between the couple. A more natural feel would have seen me give this an extra star.

Thanks to Greys Promotions and the author for a copy of this book.

Grumpy dad, sunshine nanny ... heartwarming

Hockey romances are an automatic go-to for me and R.C. Stephens a go-to author, mix the two together and it's a definite must read. GRUMPY PLAYER is the third book in her Player series, and it was another heartwarming addictive read. A grumpy dad, a sunshine nanny, forced proximity, a fake relationship, combining to deliver a delightful read from beginning to end.

Our grumpy player is Connor Donaldson, a single dad and goalie for the Rangers. He's been confined to bed while recovering from a season ending injury. n Connor has a daughter who's six, Sydney/Syd, who has difficulty connecting with strangers, and he needs a nanny for her desperately. Ellie Albizzi has just been kicked out of her accommodation, with no plans for her future she's an artist who loves painting landscapes. When her friend Patty, who happens to be Connor's physical therapist, suggests she become Syd's nanny Ellie doesn't hesitate, especially after meeting the little girl.

Talk about instant chemistry, it is obvious from the moment they meet, even though he's gruff, that Connor and Ellie were meant to be. It was fun watching their relationship evolve. I adored Ellie, she was the epitome of positivity, caring, loving, and her relationship with Syd was heartwarming. I loved that she slotted into Connor and Syd's lives so perfectly. Trouble arises when Syd's mother, Sybil, comes back into their lives, she was a nasty piece of work, she wants custody of Syd. After speaking to a lawyer, Connor suggests a fake engagement with Ellie in order to retain custody, this is when their relationship becomes complicated, and the heat rises.

The relationships in this book were wonderful to witness. Ellie had a special one with her Nana, the only family Ellie was close to. Connor and Syd warmed my heart, he was so protective of her, and she simply idolized him. I loved all the times showcasing the three of them together, the "family" moments, they were a family before they realized it.

GRUMPY PLAYER was a heartwarming, emotional, humourous, read which I couldn't put down.

Next up is Anti Player, Kaleb's story, and after the little secret he revealed ... I can't wait.

Great contemporary hockey romance read - - 5 stars with 2.5 for spice.

Ellie is struggling to make it on her own away from her estranged family and luck does not seem to be on her side. Ellie is in immediate need of a place to stay as well as a job. Her friend Patty introduces her to single dad Connor who lives in her building. Connor is in desperate need of help and pronto as he is an injured hockey player trying to recover from a physical injury while juggling his 6-year-old daughter’s care. Connor can’t seem to find a competent nanny as his daughter is sweet but has trust issues with people. Because of his injury and the stress of finding help, Connor comes off as very gruff and grumpy initially.
When Ellie and Connor meet, the chemistry is instant. Not only do they find each other attractive but Ellie is drawn to the way Connor is with his daughter and how much of a great dad he is. Connor is pulled towards Ellie as she is both beautiful inside and out but bonds immediately with Sydney and is able to pull her out of her shell. Both are trying not to cross a line because of Sydney but the slow burn and sexual tension with these two is fantastic especially the “sponge bath scene” (swoon).

Sydney’s mom comes into the picture and a custody issue arises. So when his lawyer suggests that Connor get married to show he has a stable environment for Sydney he gets upset and tells Ellie. She says she may have a solution and offers herself up. The engagement/marriage of convenience becomes a struggle to keep their emotions and hormones in check as they both go into this as an “arrangement” but soon realize what they have in front of each other is worth fighting for.
This book ticked all the boxes for me as I cried, I laughed, there were parts that made me angry and parts that made me root for the romance between Ellie and Connor. But I also loved the family dynamics from Ellie’s unconventional one to Connor’s love and concern for the wellbeing of his daughter and need to protect her. This is a great book and the characters are ones that you fall in love with and cheer on to see that HEA.

Ellie & Connor & Syd/Sydney

Ellie & Connor were an unlikely pair…he’s the grumpy injured hockey goalie…while this girl that grew up in a millionaire family lives paycheck to paycheck & couch surfs because she wants nothing from her family…well other than her Nana because she is after all the favorite (only) granddaughter

Connor needs a nanny for Syd…Ellie needs a job & growing up with Nannie’s knows exactly what Syd needs…it just builds from there….he’s gorgeous & will burn down the world for his daughter…she’s beautiful & in a short period of time falls in the love with the daughter….what could possibly go wrong

There were a few times I thought the story was going one direction only to find out I was wrong….I love it when a book isn’t predictable…makes the read better

Oh &…I love that kid!!! You could just tell by things Syd did or said that Ellie was hers…her person…if it wasn’t Dad it was Ellie…no questions asked…she just knew…everyone always thinks kids are so dumb but they live by their instincts & hers were spot on
If I could physically reach in a book & snatch a kid out of it Syd would be the kid I’d snatch…my focus is supposed to be on Ellie & Connor but their love for Syd pulls at every heartstring….even Ellie’s Nana loves Syd…I mean how could you not

While most hockey romance books mainly focus on the couple this one was different…but there’s a child involved & as we all know kids come first as they should…neither Connor nor Ellie wanted to do anything to ruin the life Connor has built for Syd…but sometimes adults can get to in their head when trying to look at the bigger picture

I laughed, I cried, I got frustrated with the two main characters a lot but I get where they were coming from….I love that the books in this series overlap….we got to catch up with Patty & Skylar a little
& we got to catch up with some more of the hockey teammates….can’t wait to read more about Kaleb…with Liam, Evan & now Connor I think we’re in for a wild ride

"Grumpy Player" by R.C. Stephens is a heartwarming contemporary romance novel that explores the complexities of love, family, and second chances. The story follows the life of a grumpy, injured hockey goalie Connor, who is also a single father, and his growing attraction to the nanny (Ellie) he hires to care for his daughter.

The characters in "Grumpy Player" are well-drawn and relatable, with the grumpy goalie serving as a multifaceted. Connor struggles, both as a single parent and as a professional athlete dealing with an injury, make him a compelling character. The nanny, Ellie, is portrayed as kind, patient, and in search of a place to belong, which adds depth to her character. The evolving relationship between the two central characters is beautifully portrayed, and their chemistry adds a layer of authenticity to the romance.

The novel's writing style is engaging and allows readers to connect with the characters on an emotional level. The story combines romance with elements of humor, family dynamics, and personal growth. It explores the challenges faced by a single parent trying to balance family and career while navigating the complexities of new love.

"Grumpy Player" also delves into the themes of second chances and the idea that love can come when you least expect it. The story captures the heartwarming journey of a man who initially seems grumpy but ultimately opens up to the possibility of love and a second shot at happiness.

Overall, "Grumpy Player" is an enjoyable and touching contemporary romance novel that provides well-developed characters and a storyline that highlights the importance of family, love, and personal growth. If you are a fan of heartfelt romances with relatable characters and a touch of humor, this book is a great choice for your reading list.

R.C. Stephens did it again- she has me falling in love with another hockey player!

Grumpy Player is the third book in the Player series and while Connor and Ellie's story is a complete story and can be enjoyed as a stand alone, I generally like to encourage reading the books in an interconnected story together since it often offers little tidbits about the MCs before they were the focus and often times the other characters in the story.

I was so excited to get back to the hockey world with the Rockets in this book- and it has so many great tropes...
🏒 Professional Hockey Player
🏒 Single Dad
🏒 Falling for the Nanny
🏒 Marriage of Convenience
🏒 Grumpy-Sunshine

What can I say about this book other than I adored these characters. Connor may be a big grumpy hockey player- and let's double down on the grump since he's out on an injury- but the man is a total softy when it comes to his daughter Sydney. Sydney is the center of his universe and if that didn't already make you swoon, you will with his fierce protective papa bear moments but also the incredible bond that is there. Ellie is a little down on her luck and scrambling when her friend Patty tries to hook her up as the nanny helping both her and Connor out. I adored that instant connection that seemed to form between these two- Sydney started to open up and blossom under Ellie's care- and I adored everything about that spunky little girl- but Ellie was blossoming too as she became more integrated into their family.

From the start it's obvious that Ellie's past is something she pushes away with a 10 foot pole and that many of her struggles are mainly by choice rather than out of hardship though more of all that comes to light in pieces throughout the story. Now Sydney was a huge driving force between these two- I think that Connor seeing how easily Sydney trusted and acclimated to Ellie was a ringing endorsement but he still kind of gave me whiplash with his friendly then grumpy attitude.

I do wish that there were some more moments between just the two of them where we can see their friendship blossom to more than just the attraction that seized them both from the start. And honestly I wasn't the biggest fan of what pushed these two into marriage. I think my brain was working to logically at the moment I was reading this book so I was just stuck on the "no this wouldn't happen like that" kind of mentality.

But overall I really enjoyed this book- the build up of the relationship, the tensions and sizzle along with all those little heart squeezy moments where they learn what exactly makes a family and to look at what they stand to gain rather than lose when it comes to love.

Grumpy Player is the third book in the Player Series by R.C. Stephens, featuring an entertaining Grumpy/sunshine, single dad/nanny, fake fiancée mash-up of tropes for Connor and Ellie. Being sidelined by a major injury has turned Connor into a perpetual grump in need of assistance for his precocious little girl, Syd, who could make a career out of running off nannies. When his physical therapist recommends Ellie, she immediately bonds with Syd, but there’s an obvious attraction between the two of them as well. Ellie is at a crossroads in her own life, so when they both need each other’s help, they find a solution that will satisfy both their problems. The question is, will they allow themselves to truly find each other in the process?

An grumpy injured hockey player who is a role model daddy for his little girl? Sign me up!!😍 This was an entertaining read from start to finish! Both Connor and Ellie have interesting stories that bring emotion and drama. I loved the slow burn aspect of the romance, yet there was tons of tension and angst and sparks every time they were in the same room! When Connor finally stopped fighting it, the heat was definitely on!! The continuity of the world building of the series with so many great characters, witty banter, found family vibe, etc. adds to the experience. Little Syd is a total scene stealer as well, and the way she bonded with Ellie was so heartwarming! I’m already hoping for a book in the future about her and Crew!! Liam and Connor are in so much trouble with those two!!😂 I’m loving this series, and I can’t wait to see who comes next!!

I received a free ARC, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved Connor and Ellie. Connor is the responsible single father and everything he does is with his daughter in mind. He gets injured during a hockey game and is not home recuperating. His daughter Syd goes through quite a few nannies and he is desperate for someone that his daughter likes. Ellie's best friend, Patty, convinces her to take the job because she got evicted from the room she was renting. She and Syd hit it off and Connor has no choice but to hire her since his last nanny walked out on them. Ellie's grandmother plays a big part in Ellies life since she is estranged from her family. Her Nana has cancer and does not have long to live and wants to see Ellie happy.

Connor is instantly attracted to the beautiful hot mess but he knows he can't go there. But not only does he lose the previous nanny, his home nurse gets hurt and cant come take care of him, so Ellie volunteers to take over feeding him and helping him bathe. Over the next few weeks, Ellie and Syd get closer and Connor is becoming good friends with Ellie with a heavy dose of sexual attraction. They are so cute admitting they want more, but Connor does not want to lose Ellie as Syd's nanny. So the sexual tension keeps ramping up.

Trouble hits when his ex decides she wants custody of Syd and his lawyer advises him that the best way to fight off his ex is to get married. When Ellie hears about his options, she offers to marry him because her Nana wants to see her settled before she dies and Ellie figures she can give her this. The drama continues and the back story is really well built.

I couldn't put it down. I loved their story and can't wait for Kaleb's story. Ms. Stephens did a great job on this story!

I received an advance copy from BookFunnel for my honest opinion.

This is ARC review

This book is yet another book that I read with a hero named Connor lol 😂 what a coincidence, right? Not that I'm complaining. It's more like a casual saying. Let's dive into the review !!!

Connor and Ellie are so adorable together. Their sexual tension started as soon as the heroine helped him, even though he denied her help. The sponge bath scene though, was hot and spicy. I won't tell you what happened exactly though. No spoilers 🤐 I loved that Connor was so grumpy at the beginning of the book. But also feel sorry about him being injured, too

This review won't be complete without mentioning Connor's adorable little girl named Sydney or Syd, for short (like everyone else calls her). She was not your typical kind of daughter that you read in many books. At the beginning, she didn't talk with Ellie. Slowly, she learned to trust Ellie and the people around Ellie (her grandmother, housekeeper, and the cook). And she talked with them.

I usually don't read a lot of hockey romances, though. This one didn't feel heavy with hockey games to me. Yes, this book has scenes with hockey games and the hero explains the rules to the heroine. But, it was not heavily focused. Hope that makes sense.

As for tropes, this book contains all the tropes that I love.

Tropes:

- Forced proximity
- Hockey romance
- Nanny/hockey player (Goalie) (single dad)
- Low angst
- Steam
- Marriage of convenience

Note: This is new to me author. Thank you to Grey's Promotions and the author for an ARC of this book. You can now pre-order this book on Amazon. Or you could buy it when it comes out on the 15th of November.

New author to me and I have gone in blindly. I absolutely was addicted to it from the prologue. Before I knew I am 2 hours late to bed haha. I didn't even realise how time flew by.
This was a Sports Romance, Nanny/Boss and Fake Engagement Tropes.
Ellie was so amazing, she was strong, independent, fierce, kind, loving and so honest (literally blurts out what she is thinking). 🤣.
Connor was currently bed bound by an injury in Ice Hockey. He is a wonderful single dad to the adorable little girl, Syd.
He is a bit grumpy because he is out of game and also he is struggling with a good Nanny that his daughter likes. She also only talks to her dad and no one else. However we don't really know what exactly caused it only and incident at her maternal grandparents caused it. Her mum is non existent as she doesn't want to be a mum.
When Ellie is made homeless and jobless all at once, she finds her friend setting her up to be a nanny for Syd. This will solve job and a place to stay.
Although she isn't experienced she definitely knows what's life like being raised by Nannies. Then Connor nurse is off sick and now she has to fight her attraction to her boss, while she gives him sponge bath.
Can she pull this off? Can they both keep their attraction at bay? What will happen when Syd's mum wants her back?
Absolutely loved Syd, such a sweet girl and she falls for Ellie straight away.
Ellie's Nonna is just as wonderful.
This story was soo sweet, heartwarming, fun, bonding, pain, heartbreak, funny, great friends, loss, emotional, love and spice.
Well written romance and the story really does pull at your heartstring, makes you smile and laugh out loud.

I don't even know where to start with Ellie and Connor... they are... for me, the sweet moments in this book made it. The sweetness, when showed, between Ellie and Connor, and of course the tender moments between them and Syd, as well as between Ellie and Nana. I mean... make my heart weep.

I literally jumped right into this book after finishing "One Time Player" book 2 and I looooooved Patty and Evan so much because they brought me back to all the things I love about RC's writing and stories when I was first introduced to her. I say that because I rated book #2 with 5 stars, like I did with my other favorite RC books. So my grading scale for her books are her own, meaning I judge her books compared to her other books that I've read. I say that to explain why I'm giving this a 4 star rating. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy this book because I did. As stated, those sweet and tender moments were just everything. And I say that because for me, this book was all about the interconnections of the characters - the relationships between them. Life can be hard sometimes, and the people who we have in our lives can help to make those times either more difficult or easier. RC captured that so poignantly in this book with how she shared the stories of Ellie and Connor. How she weaved us through their challenges, thoughts and emotions. And THOSE are my biggest take-aways from this book. What I loved about this book, I loved fiercely.

And if you've read RC's other series that have some of the characters present in this series, it's nice to see them, but this third book feels like we're finally starting to leave those characters behind a little. And oftentimes that's a great thing, because the stories and series evolve, but it made me a little sad because the ones I loved, I truly loved, so it's sad to say goodbye. BUT!! Book #4? I'm so ready for it!

🏒Grumpy Player🏒
Players Series #3

By R.C. Stephens

⭐ 5/5 ❤️ 5/5 🌶️ 4/5

🏒 Hockey Romance

Straight to the heart

Ellie
Sweet, caring but lonely

Connor
Grumpy, protective and scared to open up

”You may think you had a hard time expressing how you felt, but your actions spoke loud too. They told me you cared a lot.”

Another strike in the players series. These books only keep going better and better. This time goalie Connor and his little daughter were mesmerized by sweet and quirky Ellie. They found each other by mere coincidence but were truly meant to be together.
They begin because they are in need. Connor for a nanny and Ellie for a job and roof over her head. And despite being injured and grumpy, Connor is responsible, protective and determined to do everything right.
Ellie grew with her new job and the tasks that came with it.
But Ellie does everything right and when Connor as well as Ellie need a solution for each of their problems, they find the answer in each other.
But all that is going on messes with them and blurs the lines. And Connor is scared to lower his walls. What if Ellie isn't his solution but the endgame?
My thoughts:
Ellie is someone who cares deeply and wants to be taken care of. With how her life played out for her the last years she only wants to belong to someone.
Connor didn't have it easier but for other reasons. But it made him build walls and keep everyone on the other side.
When Ellie scratches on those walls he gets scared and terrified of what he feels.
Wonderful slow burn romance with angst, healing and creating new options. And lots of love.

This follows Ellie and Connor. Ellie is estranged from her wealthy family and a bit down on her luck. She is without a job or a home so a friend of hers suggests she become the nanny for the single dad, grumpy hockey player that is injured and living in the building.
Syd is the daughter, and she has a lot of trouble opening up to people or talking around people she doesn't trust. Ellie slides into the role and Syd takes a liking to her almost immediately. The relationship between Connor and Syd is beautiful, I'm a sucker for a good single dad doing everything for his child. The mother is an absolute pill in this book though. I despised her the entire time.
The relationship is a slow burn. I liked how it slowly developed, despite both of them being attracted to each other right away. Connor was so dedicated to trying to do all the right things for Syd and he really struggled with it. I did feel a bit of mixed signals from him at times, much like Ellie so her frustration bled from the pages and felt real.
There were a few moments where it felt a bit unbelievable with how Ellie would handle a situation or things she would say to Syd; where I felt like she was overstepping, but they were minor and not often throughout the story. I also felt like Ellie didn't really have a filter, she was so blunt sometimes that I cringed a little bit.
All in all, this was a fun, sweet marriage of convenience romance that is easy and quick to read.

4 Stars for this grumpy goalie and his nanny

This is a cute romance that is a bit of a slow burn. Connor is a grump ... but I can't really get too mad at him, he's dealing with a lot all on his own. I loved how Ellie didn't give in to her parents ... she's a strong, kind and loving person. The chemistry between Connor and Ellie is off the charts and they have a hard time keeping their hands off each other. I love when there are kids in a book and Syd is just a little sweetie ... only speaking to those she really trusts. This is a great addition to the series.

Connor is a NHL goalie and a single dad. After his move to New York, he's having trouble with his six year-old daughter running away from the nannies. Then to top if off, he gets hurt and it's going to be a long recovery. So, when his friend and neighbour states she has a friend who can help him, he quickly agrees. Ellie comes from wealth and privilege, but when she doesn't agree to her family dictating her life, she cuts all ties with them ... she's determined to make it on her own. But her art isn't selling like she thought it would and she gets kicked out of the room she's renting. When her friend tells her about a nanny job that comes with a place to stay, she jumps all over it. How hard can it be to look after one little girl? The real problem is the grumpy dad.

I love reading Hockey romances and I really enjoyed R.C Stephen's Grumpy Player.
The Grumpy player is Connor who a goalie and recovering from an injury which is making him moody. He is also a single dad to an adorable little girl Syd,she finds it hard to trust people and connect with people...Until she meets Ellie who seems to just know what Syd needs.
Ellie is from a wealthy family but she doesn't want anything to do with their money and works for her living. She needs a job...Connor needs a Nanny and BOOM !! You are treated to an amazing story and a Grumpy/Sunshine experience.
I Love a grumpy hero and Connor is exactly that, the chemistry and attraction between him and Ellie is fire ! She is the ideal Sunshine to his stormy persona..Ellie is sweet, beautiful patient and kind, she is everything that both Connor and Syd needs in their lives...and she fits into their family perfectly.
I loved the relationship Connor has with his daughter he is such a great dad and it will make you swoon.Ellie also has a wonderful relationship with Syd.
Its their LOVE for Syd that cements Connor and Ellie together,Syd seems to be the beacon of light in this story she make everyone fall in love with her even the reader.
I Relished this book and couldn't put it down I enjoyed R.C Stephen's writing and found it so easy to fall in love with these characters.
It is thoroughly entertaining and a Hockey Romance triumph.
Loved it.

Player #3

Ellie comes from a very wealthy and influential family but walked away from them and is struggling to make it on her own. Needing a place to stay she calls her friend Patty who comes and gets her. Patty tells her of a nanny job in the same building with one of the hockey players for the team she works for who is injured and needs help.

Connor Donaldson is a single dad of a six year old little girl named Sydney "Syd". He's a goalie for the Rangers that got injured and needs help with his daughter. Syd doesn't talk to most people but when she meets Ellie they hit it off and have a strong bond and get along great.

Connor comes off as a grumpy guy but his love for his daughter is never in question. When Syd's mom shows up with her new fiance saying she wants custody of her daughter Conner panics. His lawyer tells him it would look better if he was married showing a stable home life. When he mentions this to Ellie she offers to marry him as she has her own reasons to marry.

There's no doubt the chemistry between Ellie and Connor with both trying not to cross any lines. They agree to a marriage to help both of them.
Will they show their true feelings?

4.25 stars
A sweet story that brings Ellie's Nana and what she means to her. I would have liked a little more info about Nana's hockey team and more about Connor and his team and what happens to him.

First of all, I was a fan of R.C. Stephens' Westfall U series and when she announced about this series which is kind of a spin-off from the Westfall U, I was so excited. And believe me, I'm totally understand that this series takes place in NHL but the problem is I haven't felt connected with any main characters of all 3 books in this series at all.

The first 2 books in the series were my favorite tropes so even if I felt frustrated with some details but I couldn't find reasons why I felt that way while I was reading them, I still enjoyed reading both.

And yes, Connor and Ellie's story is still sport romance which is one of my favorite but it is also nanny romance which is a trope I don't like. Then tensions and situations of Ellie's family and Connor's daughter make their love story more complicated.

I think I understand what R.C. Stephens wanted when she put Ellie and Connor together but Ellie's and Connor's issues are more interesting than their love life. I do want to give this book more stars than 3 but I'm sorry I can't because both Ellie and Connor make me feel intrigued by and forcefully focus on their backgrounds especially Ellie's grandmother (that is what I decide to give 3 stars for) instead of their chemistry and love story. Plus Connor is so sweet with his daughter and Ellie so calling Connor a grumpy player feels so wrong (- -')

Grumpy Player is a fun, flirty, and melt your heart sports romance! It has a bit of everything - forced proximity, fake marriage, and hockey player and his nanny. Ellie is trying to figure out how to do what she loves in her own and that leads her to being a nanny for Connor’s daughter. Ellie’s friend Pattie sets it up and the minute she connects with his daughter, Connor agrees. The chemistry between the two is instant, but both ignore it and burry it under their other priorities. Connor is injured and can barely move around yet, which leads to Ellie not only being his nanny but his nurse for the time being. The more time these two spend around each other the attraction is harder to ignore. Ellie is determined to win over Syd and do her best for her. The relationship between these two is so sweet to see grow and then add in the growing relationship between the three of them and it will melt your heart. The more the lines cross between Connor and Ellie, the harder it becomes to ignore. Will Ellie and Connor open up and take a chance on what they are feeling or will their past and current stubbornness ruin a possibly future together? I loved this book and the characters we se throughout this series.

Grumpy, swoony, steamy goodness inside
Grumpy Player: A Fake Engagement Story (The Player Series Book 3) by R. C. Stephens throws Ellie and Connor into each other's paths at just the right time, giving this fake engagement story a right place, right time feel. From the first chapters it became clear to me that I was going to love Ellie and Connor, not to mention the ever adorable Syd!
Each of these characters harbors a whole bunch of hurt and the proximity element of this story provides the perfect opportunity to heal.
I love it when a plan comes together, and this fake engagement is no exception. The many aspects that brings this couple to this decision come from the heart and even a little bit of fear. Ellie and Connor's hearts are so big and have so much to give even as they deny, second guess, fear, and build walls. Despite all the obstacles, there isn't one thing I did not like about this book and the characters within.
Overall, a wonderfully entertaining addition to this series! Ellie and Connor finally see that despite the fake beginning, their ending, their HEA is all very real, promising and bursting with love.
I read an ARC of this book via Grey's Promotions and voluntarily share my review.

What can you expect from Grumpy Player?
💙 Grumpy single dad
👧 Nanny Trope
💍 Fake Engagement
💗 Adorable six year old girl
🌶️ Burning hot chemistry that may involve a sponge bath.

Blurb
I’m hers.

Grumpy Player is a sweet contemporary hockey romance.

Connor is an injured pro hockey player, and a 25 year-old single dad. Down for the count, Connor needs help taking care of his sweet, and shy, daughter Syd. Along comes 30 year-old Ellie, barging in at 5am in her pajamas.

Ellie & Connor's mutual friend, Patty, introduces them and it's all history from there. There's an undeniable, and at times goofy and awkward, attraction between the two. They both try to fight it, until Syd's mom tries to come back into the picture and threatens Connor's custody of Syd.

Connor & Ellie find themselves in an engagement of convenience and find it even harder to hide their rapidly growing feelings for each other.

Grumpy Player was a quick and adorable read. Syd was the sweetest little thing, and Nana completely stole the show IMO.

Tropes:
•Sports Romance
•Reverse Age Gap
•Forced Proximity
•Engagement/Marriage of Convenience
•Single Father
•Grumpy/Sunshine - though I use Grumpy loosely. Connor didn't come off to me as grumpy, more so mature for his age and concerned for his daughter's well being

Connor’s injury didn’t just take him off the ice, it left him in need of help taking care of himself and his young daughter. In addition to all the qualities that made Ellie a great candidate for the nanny position from the start, Connor’s reserved daughter connects and opens up to her quickly. For his daughter, Connor is doing his best to keep his attraction to the nanny in check, but when she starts to care for him too, that barely there restraint finally snaps.

This series continues to be top notch Every. Single. Time. Ellie is a great sunshine character who has such a beautiful relationship with her grandmother and bonds quickly to Connor’s daughter with a commitment to showing her the love she deserves regardless of her and Connor’s status. I love how flirtatious Connor and Ellie are and how they lean into what could have been an uncomfortable situation with her helping him after his injury and turn it into light moments with high tension. I cannot recommend this series enough!

You’ll Find —
Single Dad x Nanny
Injured Hockey Player
Caretaking
Grumpy x Sunshine
Forced Proximity
Fake Engagement

Connor is a single dad and a goalie for a pro hockey team. He gets injured and is bedridden but his daughter (Sydney or Syd) hates all the nannies that he finds and they eventually leave. When Patty's (team assistant physical therapist) friend needs a job, he is immediately attracted, and hires her because of how quickly his daughter warmed up to her.

Ellie feels like she is a failure, her family kicked her out, she tries to succeed at her art, and she can't find a place to live (her temporary roommate kicked her out). She is desperate. Ellie cannot help but fall in love with Syd and feels like crying when she speaks to her. What she doesn't expect is also having to take care of Connor when his nurse is injured and the chemistry between them becomes even more palpable.

I really enjoyed Connor and Ellie's story. I loved how they grew together, relied on one another, and how Syd was the center of his world. I cried and laughed with these characters they are a lot of fun. Syd was such a cool kid and so smart. I highly recommend this book and home you enjoy it as much as I did.

This is such a brilliant read.
Ellie is down on her luck and needs a job and somewhere to live. Her friend knows Connor, an injured hockey player, who needs a nanny for his daughter Syd and its a live in job.
Ellie immediately bonds with Syd and takes the job. Her only concern is the chemistry between her and Connor.
Connor is so good with Syd and will do anything for her so he knows that he needs to stay away from Ellie.
When Syd's mother comes back on the scene and wants to have Syd with her Connor knows that he needs to fight and being married will help his case. Ellie suggests getting married as her dying nana wants to see her married and in love before she passes.
Will they be able to pull this off without getting hurt.
I loved how they were together and how gorgeous Syd is. But what happens when feelings grow and both want more but won't admit it.
A must read with so much love and emotion but also plenty of fun times.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book, provided by Grey's Promotions. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Big grumpy goalie Connor is in need of some serious help with his sweet, thoughtful little girl. He's injured and needs help taking care of her. The only thing is she's shy and doesn't connect with any of the nannies he's hired. Enter Ellie, a friend of a friend who is down on her luck and is in desperate need of a job and a place to live. It's a win-win.

But, of course they are insanely attracted to one another, and after trying to fight it, they grow closer. Connor's ex (his baby mama) tries to but into their lives, and Ellie doesn't keep in much contact with her family. But against everything, will they let their guard down so they can be together?

I'm 100% in on stories with little kids, and this one was no exception. I'm a huge hockey romance fan, so from the get-go this one checked off the boxes. I love the world created in this series, and I love all the characters!
