To me, Annie Lööf has always been one of the most intriguing individuals within Swedish politics. As the party leader of the moderate Center Party (an interesting concept for a political party to an American politico such as myself) for over 10 years, she has uniquely navigated the everchanging landscape of the Swedish political arena. From being a core piece of the right-wing political bloc known as "the Alliance" in her early days, to being one of the most vocal proponents for humanitarian immigration and essentially the sole reason the left-wing bloc government was able to stay afloat in later years, she has always been at the center of the political debate (both metaphorically and ideologically). This memoir follows her journey, giving the reader an inside look at the events that shaped Sweden's future and personal reflections from Annie's perspective. It was fascinating to witness how much Sweden has evolved over the years and relive some of the chaotic turbulence of the past four years from when I started to pay attention to Swedish politics myself. I have always had deep respect for Annie for her intense work ethic (did someone say Enneagram 3?) and her bravery in taking unpopular stances for what she believed was right, but this book further cemented that respect, especially after reading about her experiences as a mother and surviving the horrific assassination attempt on her life. I will miss having her as the Center Party Leader, but I think she has made a major difference, and I understand her decision to finally step down. Overall, a very enjoyable read.
