I woke up alone, adrift in the ocean. Behind me, Freedom Island is still smoldering. In front of me, there's nothing but the endless expanse of the ocean. I don't know whether any of my comrades survived. I don't know what kind of forces have been tasked with finding me. The only option I have left is to keep moving forward, into the unknown.
The permanent use of the sentence "so annoying" was so annoying!
The story is really bizarre. The series is another of the Russia centered parallel world stories but in an a bit demented way. The notable powers of this world are Russia, China, Japan, Persia, Frankia (ancient France), Teutonia (ancient Germany), the Scandinavians, the Angles (England) and for some reason Iceland. The story takes place in Russia which only encompasses the eastern parts of Europe until the Ural. Despite having no boarders with each other it is highly important that Japan, Persia and Frankia keep peace with Russia for some reason..
Reincarnation, magical eyes, bizarre zombies and cannibalism to progress make up a big part of the story. In the first books the protagonist is a weak wimp who is constantly saved by plot armor. He develops other cheat abilities that make him valuable to others and ends up beeing OP this way.
Unfortunately, the whole getting stronger, conspiracy and revenge arc lead nowhere in the first three books. And in the fourth book i realized i stopped caring..
The Goldenblood I received a review copy of this book. Book 3 is the next book in this interesting series. In this one, we see new enemies, some amusing solutions to existing problems, new places, and of course, the ever present virus doing it's best to kill our main character. It all adds up to make a story that is well worth the read. If you've read the other books in this series, then there's no reason to skip reading this one, go ahead, add it to your to read shelf, then actually read it. :)
I received an ARC of this book right before Christmas and got it back with corrections as quickly as I could. I think within a day. I don't know if I managed to get it back before publishing though. If you find something wrong please report it because they are really good at getting them fixed. Except for plot holes those are the fault of the author and can't be fixed by the publisher. I know because I've tried to get some fixed in the past. It didn't happen.
The book is getting more interesting as the MC gets stronger and starts unraveling the mysteries of the past. The bouncing pig is still the best character!
So are you wondering why we haven't talked about the elephant in the room yet? All of these books have ended in a cliffhanger, and I hate cliffhangers! I've even been known to stop reading a series because of the cliffhanger at the end. But as I've pointed out these are good satisfying stories, and up until this they're easily obtained and by clicking a link at the end of the book and voila I would have the next book in front of me. Why do you think I just gave the books only 4⭐'s instead of 5? Cliffhangers!!! But unfortunately I'll now need to wait for books 4 & 5 to be released. Bah humbug... and so the wait begins!
Escaping the prison island was only the first step - now our MC flees from his enemies and starts to get a group of others around him. Too bad I have to wait for the next book - I went through the first three in three days only - really refreshing. Sometimes cynical and no one here seems to be a through and through good guy (well - maybe Emmy - but not sure).
Arg! Cliffhanger. No fair. Give me the next book now…I need to know what happens. Really fun variations of settings and characters. Kind of felt like a side quest to the main storyline but still kept my focus and left me wanting more.
