Remade: Embracing Your Complete Identity in Christ

Rate this book
Do you know who you are? Often our self-perception, even as Christians, is fragmented or incomplete—we struggle to grasp the richly faceted identity we’ve been given in Christ. When our evaluation of ourselves, our sin, and our circumstances is misaligned with God’s view, we don’t live with the comfort and motivation Christ offers.

In this Scripture-saturated devotional, pastor and biblical counselor Paul Tautges provides 90 meditations on your complete identity before God in Christ. You are a saint in good standing before God, yet you are simultaneously a sinner who must battle with your desires and a sufferer who undergoes hardship. Day by day, discover how grasping this threefold biblical reality centers your thoughts and affections on the Savior and prepares you to stay on God’s good path as you live in a broken world.

Endorsements"These meditations are crammed with the best of practical theology, and I know that each one has been put into practice by the author."

Edward T. Welch

"If you have ever wondered what it means to be “in Christ,” my friend Paul Tautges offers a healthy guide that unpacks who we are as blood-bought children of God. And his new book Remade has arrived just in time, given the way so many people—Christians, even—are searching for their true identity. Paul explains how understanding our position in Christ not only shapes our future but also gives meaning and power to our struggle against sin and perseverance through suffering. This excellent volume is must-reading for anyone who feels they need help in becoming the person Jesus wants them to be. I highly recommend it!"

"Few matters are more important to the Christian life than the matter of identity. We live best before the Lord when we know who and what we are in him. And this is exactly the subject of this lovely series of meditations from my friend Paul Tautges. As you read it, you will learn who you are in Jesus Christ, you will learn how he provides all that you truly need, and you will learn why it is fitting that you submit to his good and perfect will, even (or especially) when that will involves suffering and sorrow. This is a book that blessed me and one I am certain will bless you as well."

Tim Challies

"Remade offers biblically rich and relevant reflections on what it means to be a redeemed child of God. Readers will be comforted, instructed, and warmly invited to rest in the identity Jesus gives to them. I see Remade becoming a go-to resource for discipleship and small group contexts as well as individual study. Its devotions are concise yet substantive, and Paul’s frequent use of personal illustrations is incredibly refreshing."

Christine Chappell

"Tautges serves as an outstanding guide as he helps us to meditate on treasured biblical truths that help us to grow in godliness. This book will help you to renew your mind, which will lead to a renewed and changed life."

Dale Johnson

"John Calvin said that nearly all our wisdom consists of knowing who God is and who we are. And knowing who we are—if we are in Christ by a Spirit-wrought faith—is complicated. For believers are sinners against God, saints in Christ, sufferers in a fallen world, and sons and daughters headed for glory.

Great book for anyone struggling with their identity in Christ, whether you're confused on the "saint", "sufferer", or "sinner" identity. Tautges always does a great job of asking convicting questions and giving thorough homework.

This book was excellent. Tautges covered what it means to be a saint, sinner, and sufferer, I used this book as a daily devotion and gleaned so much hope, encouragement and exhortation from it. Highly recommend!!

“We groan because life hurts badly - sometimes with unspeakable sorrows. But unlike those who do not know Jesus, we groan with hope. We groan while we wait for the ultimate day of redemption when “the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption.” We groan as our hearts ache for the day when Jesus will make “all things new” Until then, suffering is guaranteed.”

I know this is one I’m going to go back to again and again for the rest of my life! And it’s the one book I want to buy as a gift for all my family and friends! SO much gospel truth that has helped me behold the One in whose image I am being remade and has helped me see who I am as a saint, sinner, and sufferer. Already want to read through it again!!

What does it mean to be a new creation? In Remade, Paul Tautges writes on what it means to embrace your complete identity in Christ.

Tautges uses the three titles of saint, sinner, and sufferer to capture a Christian’s complete identity before God in Christ. Saint means to practice your position in Christ, sinner means to rest in your provision in Christ, and sufferer means to submit to your purification in Christ.

Fully Accepted

In 90 short meditations, Tautges centers your heart on Jesus. He uses Scripture to show your new identity, how to live like a new creation, and why we shouldn’t be surprised by suffering. He speaks as a friend, sharing about his own life, while pointing you to Scripture.

I was most pleased to read that I am fully accepted. Paul gives a tight exposition of Ephesians 1:6, noting that this acceptance frees us from the fear of man and gives us the ability to accept one another. I thought about my own “longing for belonging,” and resolved to rest in God.

Gospel Reality

I was most moved to read that we are to bear one another’s sin burdens. While explaining Galatians 6:1-2, Paul says that we have a responsibility to help those who are losing the battle against besetting sin. I was eager to preach with humble love for my brothers and sisters, hoping to encourage them in Jesus.

The book concludes with a call to reside in gospel reality. We live in a world of suffering and sin, but we remain sanctified. This book will help you head in the right direction, rooted with your remade identity in Christ.

I received a media copy of Remade and this is my honest review.

Who you think you are profoundly impacts your life. It can make all the difference between living in failure or in victory. So it is for Christians.

Knowing we are united with Christ, made His own, and destined to share in His glory is wonderful to meditate on. But how is it lived out practically in the day-to-day and moment-by-moment?

Across 90 packed chapters, pastor and biblical counselor, Paul Tautges, helps believers see themselves through the triple lens of sinner, saint, and sufferer. All Christians are all three at the same time. But it’s easy to only think of ourselves as one or the other. Doing so can lead to a crippled life, an unrealistic life, or a grim life. Only by seeing all three working in harmony at the same time can we get a full and rich picture of who we really are in Christ.

Since each chapter is so meaty and contains practical ways to apply the truth to your life, it’s best to approach this as a devotional rather than something you can just read through in a few sittings - which is good. The devotional format forces you to slow down and really sit in what the Bible says about you.

If you’re feeling discouraged, unsure of your identity in Christ or how he sees you, be encouraged; we are secure in him. But even more than that, he will not leave us as we are. We are being remade, “transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.”

A wonderful devotional. Paul Tautges breaks the Christian life into 3 areas: saint, sinner, and sufferer. He walks the reader through each area, showing them who they are, showing their need for Christ's work in a particular area, and showing that they need to grab hold of and trust the promises of God to them in each area. I cannot recommend this devotional enough, it was clear and easy to read, spiritually stimulating, convicting and comforting, and Christ centered. I would recommend this devotional to many different ages and areas of maturity in the Christian faith.

This should be required reading for every Christian counselor, pastor, and honestly, most Christians. This book lays out many counseling needs of Christians in the church, gives a theological overview of the problem as well as the solution, and gives practical steps on how to disciple (aka counsel) the counselee toward healing. Incredible book, highly recommended.

I loved the devotional—it was such a wonderful reminder of what my new identity in Christ is and how I should view myself and live in that identity!! The devotional was jam-packed with Scripture (which I greatly appreciated) and full of biblical Truth.

Only reason I docked off 0.25 stars was because some of the author’s choice of analogies were…interesting. At times, he lost me with the stories, at other times it weirded me out or took me aback. Regardless, his main points were great and he did a wonderful job with that.

Really good. Tautges is an expert biblical counselor, with a pastoral heart. This tone comes through clearly in his excellent devotional. Taking Emlet’s threefold “Saint, Sinner, and Sufferer” model, Tautges walks the reader through the Bible with care and confidence, showing him that his identity is chiefly found in and perfected by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Excellent application of the Emlet’s original work, Saint, Sinners, Sufferers. The short devotional entries for every day are practical and memorable reflections of those principles. Applicable to anyone, but especially relevant for those struggling to experience the joy of their identity in Christ.

This book has been transformational in my walk with Christ. I used it as a 90-day devotional. This book helped me see who I really am in Christ and help me build confidence in my identity and in the sovereign God who knows me my name.

Okay seven months for a ninety day devo!

I did really enjoy the book overall, but found the questions repetitive, especially towards the end.

The substance and the theology is good, just the organization of the book is what I found to be a little lacking sometimes.

Recommend!

A book of short, simple, yet powerful devotionals. This book takes the reader on a journey through what they call the triple lens of a Christian's identity- Saint, Sinner, and Sufferer.
