#1 Best Seller and #1 New Release - LitRPG with heart!
Harvey killed the World Boss. Now he must clean up the mess.
On the cusp of a second lease on life, Harvey, Tabitha, Maywen, and Reacher have one to level up before the World Boss regenerates. Lorith is alive again, but the remnants of centuries of toxic magic pollution linger. The world needs more healing than even someone with a Legendary class can administer, not at level 3 anyway.
Between monsters and mysterious villains, Harvey must confront a cruel reality. Will he be content to let those he cares about defend him, or will he embrace his destiny and become the Master of Steel.
Master of Steel is the transformational sequel of the dungeonpunk/steampunk first entry in the series, Father of Constructs.
A little bit better, but a little bit worse. DNF at 60% A big part of me still wants to know what happens next, but I just didn't enjoy reading this. I put off reading this, I took a a little break that went 4 days longer than I meant. I like the idea of this book, until I start reading it again, and then it bugs me. Making the Main character a decrepit old man in pain with no teeth is the main, number one reason I'm never going to finish this book. Giving that old man a hillbilly dialect with poor hygiene and atrocious table manners is why I don't feel bad about never finishing this book. What the hell was the author thinking? I just couldn't take anymore empathy pains. There were several other problems on top of that, but those could have been overlooked if they weren't just icing on the cake.
Harvey's world continues to expand, and his skills develop alongside the situations he finds himself in. A large theme is violence, and the fact that it doesn't care if you're opposed to it. The harsh truth of reality is that the occasions where bad actors have been stopped by peace, love, and good intentions are vanishingly rare.
Harvey struggles with this, and to him (and anyone who thinks like him) I have two things to say: The best defence is a good offence, and the guy who pointed out that your weakness would get your loved ones killed was bang-on. The book exposes horrendously dangerous enemies, and to borrow a term from the Legionnaire books, you've gotta KTF.
I am enjoying this series a lot. In this book we got base building and a few more epic fights than we did in the last book. Harvey is coming into his own. The teasing between the other characters and hi is adorable.
After reading both published books I feel like maybe trapping the world boss the way they did might have been a mistake. Or maybe not. It's allowed a lot of evil to fester and grow, but it's also bringing it out into the light. The MC has a child like joy in the way he looks at things that makes it fun to see his reaction to things. This doesn't mean that he is weak or unwilling to take responsibility for his actions. He is doing his best to make the world a better place. He manages to better the folks caught in his orbit as well. You can find the prologue for book two on Royalroad. As of this review there is no sign of book three. Any mistakes will be listed on Goodreads.
Remember that this is just my opinion and yours may differ.
A worthy continuation. My only complaint is that, as per the ending of the first book, Lucas isn't in this one, though it's assumed he'll return in future. Unfortunately, another significant secondary character is set to temporarily leave as well. I'm not a fan of this splitting of the party, especially given that it's characters we've gotten to know and like. That said, I still enjoyed and recommend this book and look forward to the next one.
I love that Harvey isn’t daunted by any chance to learn more. The shenanigans that ensue are suitably dramatic, and delightful.
How many corrupted Oases are out there? Have any truly been destroyed? Or are the original hundreds that Lucas mentioned still laying about? And if so, will Harvey and Tabitha be able to super-level without even leaving their continent as the network guides them to more parts of itself in need of repair?
Suffers greatly from the lack of a more interesting foil for Harvey. Who in this book has turned into Larry the Cable Guy, for some reason. Having the other characters constantly reference it doesn’t make it any less annoying. The first half of the book is quite slow, too, then just as it gets interesting, pow! Straight to the moon.
This was another nice mix of team camaraderie, humor, progression and solving problems as they travel between Oases. Writing was easy to follow and the worldbuilding was great. I especially liked how organic it felt, how old and new magic shaped the culture and challenges.
Action was done well and there were a few unexcepted twists too. Lots to look forward.
A nice mix cold practicality and heart. The plot gets more and more complex the longer it goes one. Looking forward to vol. three.
There are some editing issues. Missing words if a few places or the wrong word entirely. The author does a good job staying with ‘active’ writing and keeps the exposition the bare minimum which has become a rare thing in this genre.
I really enjoyed the progression of this book it's definitely coming into its own. and the character progression is just getting better and better, and it was already good in the first place. The book is definitely worth checking out. I will definitely be checking out book 3 to find out what happens next.
This is a wonderful story. I might even recommend this series as a first foray into LitRPG. Harvey is such a treasure and I loved seeing him fight to protect his friends. Wren is a wonderful addition to the story, and supports in all the best ways. Tabitha and Reacher are extremely loyal and loving him through everything. My whole family loves this series!
Enjoying book 2 but story moves kinda slow but love Harvey and the other characters - the emotions are heart felt - got teary eyed - looking forward to seeing main characters power up more
A good second book building on everything i liked about harveys journey to become a good man, a real page turner and rollercoaster of a journey i enjoyed it a lot and urge others to spend tike and money on these good authors in the genre.
This is the slowest leveling system I’ve ever read. This story of a sick mentally disabled janitor getting a legendary class was fascinating and fantastic. He finally made it to level five.
This story could use a better editor I like the characters and concept but it is very very slow. I keep wanting to skip to when a character levels up but like it only happens twice, also the main character is a eunuch which is always boring to read.
Story: I enjoyed the first one a bit more. This one had way too much politics on it and less adventure. Will give a try to the 3rd book but assuming the series continues that one might be that last one. Onto my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!
While it lost some of the charm of book one, I was still happy to finish this instalment in the series. There's plenty of mysteries left to uncover and many levels yet to claim. Tabitha is a lovely, and I look forward to more of her story.
This is probably my favorite comfort series so far. Harvey is just so incredible. He really starts to level and come into his own here. This series is just incredible. Do yourself a favor, and read this series. You won’t be disappointed.
This was great. More adventures and more levels - though not nearly enough for my taste. The characters are still fun and original and the world building is amazing.
