Magic and mystery. That’s what the day of the summer solstice promised.

Seventeen-year-old farm girl Branwen isn't afraid of the ancient burial mound hidden within the Welsh forest. The tales of its mystery and magic thrill her—until that same strange power drags her, kicking and screaming, through the dark tomb and into the realm of the fae. Escape seems nearly impossible when she is captured by servants of the vicious harpy-queen Celaeno. Branwen must use all of her wits and determination to survive in a cruel and beautiful land called the Sídhe, where everything—even kindness—has its price. When her indomitable spirit finally earns her a chance at freedom, Branwen must decide what or who she is willing to sacrifice in order to return home.

I couldn't put down this fantasy adventure. Right away it launches you into a non-stop journey that has you holding your breath on the edge of your seat. I am very invested in the characters & was dreading the end of the book. This is a page turner for sure & I am very excited for the next installment!

Fantastic book!! The book has a fast paced story that quickly unfolds, and I kept having to put the book down because I was getting so caught up in the story holding my breath waiting to see what would happen next! The heroine in the book is easy to root for, and I can’t wait to read the sequel to see what happens!

In a nail-biting, heart-racing adventure, a young woman faces the perils of the fae world.

Branwen, a shepherdess full of courage, cleverness, and determination, faces the dangerous world of the Sidhe, a land where the strangest creatures of folklore live and roam. After being trapped in the land of giant wolves, harpies, and a myriad of other deadly fae, she must rely on her wit and inner fire to survive long enough to find a way home. But as she travels deeper into the heart of Sidhe and finds unexpected allies, she soon discovers that it's not only her life at stake. Soon the choice lies before her: save her own skin or join a fight far bigger than the world she knows.

Miranda Gaines creates an intricate, enveloping world of terrors and beauty. The way she brings folklore creatures to life reminds me a bit of Gilded by Marissa Meyer. Both books feature frightening creatures and lore that don't typically get center stage in fantasy novels; both books give us a heroine full of strength, resolve, and compassion for others. And while Gaines does deal with the darker side of folktales, she tempers the darkness with layers of hope that make the story an incredibly satisfying read, even as readers are dragged to the edge of our seats.

An excellent book that will leave you anxious for the sequel.

Excellent!

This story is very well-written and exciting! It’s full action and emotion. I love the characters and the plot. My only critique is a few minor grammar mistakes. Very well done and highly recommended.
