'Lonely Planet guides are, quite simply, like no other.' - New York Times
'Lonely Planet. It's on everyone's bookshelves; it's in every traveller's hands. It's on mobile phones. It's on the Internet. It's everywhere, and it's telling entire generations of people how to travel the world.' - Fairfax Media (Australia)
Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).
If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.
Note: WorldCat is an excellent resource for finding author information and contents of anthologies.
I couldn't have written a better travel guide myself!! It is extremely user-friendly, and I definitely recommend this edition since it not in black & white (apparently most other LonelyPlanet books are). I zipped through this thing REAL fast, making me wonder: since when is a tourist guide a page-turner?
One Word Review: Helpful Lonely Planet Discover Great Britain guide is a good, solid general traveler resource for exploring Britain. I look to this book often for finding hidden gems.
In an era when putting together a useful travel guide is more expensive, but cost pressures push quality down, and when many travelers are relying increasingly on 'crowd sourcing' trip ideas through mobile devices, having a guide book that contains expert advice at your finger tips remains important, and this is what Lonely Planet attempts to accomplish with this Great Britain travel guide.
Lonely Planet Discover Great Britain guide is a good, solid general traveler resource for exploring Britain. The great value here is that the information is laid out in a trip centric, rather than a location centric way. That is, the reader should be able to use this to effectively plan itineraries, rather than to focus on specific locations, like you might with a DK travel guide.
Also, in an era when many published travel guides are struggling due to people starting to prefer crowd sourced information, or making decisions on the fly with mobile devices, this book has information directly from local experts, in tourist friendly places like Bath, Edinburgh, Liverpool, the Tower of London, etc. This is not a comprehensive work, but the user should be able to use it to plan first and second visits to the highest traveled places within Great Britain, and to begin to understand the local areas well enough.
Borrowed this book from the library for recent trip to London and surrounding area. Agree with other reviewers that the country guides are more thorough than the discover series but this will do in a pinch. My library didn't have the Kindle versions of the Great Britain or England country guides so I borrowed the Discover guide instead. A lot of the info is similar between the 3 books but the country guides go into more detail, as expected.
i haven't been putting any strictly travel books on here, as i feel they're too straight-forward to merit a review, but i really liked how this book was put together and i would look at it again for a future trip to the UK when i get to travel around more. it was a great way to get a feel for different regions and what they're known for without spending a whole lot of time researching or paging through a thick book. and lots of great pictures and colorful sections as well!
