Bad Boy Billionaires #2

The Billionaire's Rival

Rate this book
I’ve wanted Jay from the moment I saw him. He’s an attorney like me, and he’s competitive, skilled, and intelligent—not to mention hot as hell.

He also insists he’s straight.

That doesn’t stop him from flirting with me every chance he gets. And it doesn’t keep me from wanting him in my bed.

Our rivalry—and the chemistry between us—ignites when we end up on opposing sides of a case that threatens our lives as well as our professional reputations.

I might have all the resources anyone could ask for, but I don’t know if I can keep us both safe and keep Jay from breaking my heart.

The relationship between MCs are so much better than the first one. It was way more "balanced" and fun I guess. Jay warmed up to me at the end. And the friends dynamics are so forced like it is not so natural like the other friend groups in other book series.

“But you know what? Just being here with you, curling up with a book, cooking for you, and teaching you to knit…that sounds perfect as well.”

📗5 stars. Read on 14th Dec, 2025. Best one in the series. i had to read this as an ebook bcuz the audiobook didn’t get the voices right. i’ve talked about it in my old review below.
🔹Story- 4.4⭐, Characters- 4.8⭐, Sex- 5⭐, Epilogue- 1⭐

Before we begin, i need to introduce you to Ford. Ford is this adorable nerdy boy. All like tweed suits and british boarding school boy type. He’s in his late 30s/early 40s, a lawyer, he’s the shortest of the 4 friends (and 4 inches shorter than Jay), was bullied a lot in school. He also knits! Like i said he's my fav character and now im debating whether i like him more than Lancelot. Surely not, right? Right???
Also he's such a brat and a complete sl_t in bed. He likes to pout a lot so he looks like this:

Why give him a gruff voice is beyond my understanding. Tropes and tags at the end.

🔹Loved both the MCs from the start! It’s frenemies→court rivals→hookup→lovers pipeline.

🔹Ford is just so whipped for Jay awww.
Miles shook his head. “How can you be so cutthroat when it comes to casework, but such a softie for men who are assholes?”
I shrugged. “It’s a special talent.”

And Jay equally had it down bad for my boy. 🥺
“You’re in danger,” Ford said. “No shit.” “Worse than you might think.” Worse than me spending thirty years of my life thinking I was straight, then falling for a man who wanted nothing from me but hate sex?

🔹Yes, Jay is a little shit. He’s straight yet keeps leading Ford on, feels clearly conflicted, and Ford catches on fast. The tension is all in how they toe that line. So much tussle between these two idiots. Finally, MCs with equal footing. Ford’s a bossy brat who wants to be dominated, and Jay enjoys doing exactly that. Think Ambrose (Theriot family) and the cop.

🔹Jay has Ford wrapped around his fingers. But we all know he's straight, right? Hehe well hello bisexuality! 😘😏 Though he doesn’t outright say he’s bi, but he’s not GFY either since he watches a lot of gay p0rn.

🔹i LOVE how protective Miles is for Ford! He protects him as if he's a princess or something! Him threatening Jay was so adorable! Since i love Ben & Miles a lot, but their own book was a letdown, im gonna learn about them vicariously through other books. i liked knowing about them here.
I bet Ben had let Miles know how unacceptable that was, and he’d probably had to do a lot of groveling. Ben must have thoroughly enjoyed that.

🔹It’s not insta lust since they’ve known e/o before the book starts and Ford’s already been turned down. They hook up, but there’s no “he’s mine” vibe till much later. They fight their feelings throughout, making it a slow-ish burn, which surprised me and i loved it.

🔹Loved their inner monologues! While the banter is simply sizzling. Snarky full on.
🔹i loved Eudora a very caring aunt like figure. i kept thinking about Eshe from Palia. Ben and Ford bonding and Eudora orchestrating was my fav part. So adorable n soft. Ubu 🥺

🔹This has 5 sex scenes. First at 27%. It has hate sex and so much rough sex!! huhu It’s so good, so descriptive, has good foreplay and the responsiveness is very well felt. 2nd one with insane foreplay. Just top of the notch😏.
“Fuck you,” he yelled. “I thought this was what you wanted.” “It is, you bastard. Give me more.” I pulled most of the way out and drove in again. Ford whimpered and the sound nearly made me lose it.

Tropes & tags:
Sex acts:
CW: Violence.

Only 1 issue and it’s not even about the book. It’s the audiobook narration:

------Old review-----------

♦i’d say it’s Mike’s wrong voices for the MCs that made reading sex weird for me. i couldn’t really enjoy it. i just can’t continue. Sorry. Will pick up the ebook.

This is a very enjoyable GFY romance about a billionaire who's attracted to a straight man who is his desirable frenemy. Ford is an attorney who is also a billionaire. With his childhood friends, he works because he likes it, although he doesn't need the money. His path has crossed periodically with Jay, an attorney for another law firm. He was immediately attracted to Jay, but Jay has put him off although Jay does flirt with him quite a bit.

Once they are assigned by each of their firms to the same case, as competing attorneys, they must spend more time together locked in negotiations. When meetings seem more like dates and banter seems more like mutual attraction, they begin to consider more with each other. When the case turns dangerous, they both need security protection. Can these two men find a long term future together when neither knows if the other wants something more serious?

This book has risk, drama, supportive friends and family, high passion, and hard-won HEA. I look forward to the next book in the series.

The Billionaire’s Rival by Silvia Violet is the second book in her Bad Boy Billionaires series. You may want to read the Book 1 first as it introduces characters that reoccur in this story. Ford Wainwright is a billionaire but also an extremely good lawyer. He grew up with generational wealth and met his best friends, who also had money, during his early school days and now worked for one of them. Jasper “Jay” Rollins was also an expert lawyer but for a different company. He did not grow up with wealth and had to fight for what he had. His mother had left the family when he was young and his dad had worked himself to death. He and his sister were then raised by his grandmother. He met Ford when they played tennis together at their club. Ford felt an immediate attraction to him but Jay was straight. That didn’t stop him from flirting with Ford and when he did it gave him the edge to beat Ford every time. Then they discovered they were going to be opposite attorneys for a case involving a warehouse that Ford’s friend, Miles, wanted to buy. Jay needed to win the case because it meant a promotion to partner for him, but he knew Ford was a formidable lawyer so he needed to do something “extra” to win. He started by flirting with Ford but that wasn’t getting him anywhere. Along the way he was starting to feel an attraction to Ford which confounded him because he thought he was straight. This led to some fooling around where he realized maybe he wasn’t as straight as he thought. Meanwhile their case exploded when it is found out that a mob wanted the warehouse for criminal activities and they will do anything to stop the lawsuit from going through, including intimidating and watching Jay to the point that he needs protection. And that protection starts with Ford as he takes him into his house as well as to his grandparents when that doesn’t seem to be enough. During this time they have more hot love scenes and fall for each other until they declare their love. The story ends with a bang when a kidnapping and a suspenseful meet up with the bad guys leads to an epic blow up. I really enjoyed this story. It was not only a slow burn romance but also had a suspenseful mystery that was revealed in stages. Ford and Jay were great opposite characters that had a lot in common. Ford started out attracted to Jay but it took a while for Jay to realize he also wanted Ford. There were many steamy love scenes as Jay learned how to be with a man. Ford’s best friends played an important part in the story and they could be snarky as well as all out protective of him. There was also a lot of action that kept me reading to find out what was going to happen next. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like office rivalries, men who think they are straight but aren’t when the right man comes along, and a lot of suspense with some criminal actions thrown in. It does not disappoint.

The Billionaire's Rival (Bad Boy Billionaires Book 2) is a frenemies to lovers, mm romance of two complete opposites. Attorneys, Jasper and Ford; one came from nothing while the other had more than he can spend. Jasper, or Jay, resents Ford but not like in a strong hate kind of way, more like a jealous, "why can't I have what he has" kind of thing. Outside the courtroom, Ford is actually a nice guy. Jay and Ford strike a sort of frenemies relationship, playing tennis at a country club that even though is pricey, Jay pays just so that he feels worthy, or so that's how I see it.

Their competitive natures however leads them to become opposing attorneys on a case. This forced proximity doesn't help with Ford's huge crush on the straight Jay but he taps it down and focuses on the case. However, this case is just an open and shut one, it's actually pretty dangerous and soon lives are being threatened and Ford steps up and makes it his job to protect Jay and soon Jay's previous feelings towards Ford shifts.

I love and enjoy Silvia Violet's stories. She writes MM romance that isn't boring and manages to throw in some adventure/drama. Ford and Jay are written prefect for a frenemies, GFY storyline. She doesn't shy away from writing characters who at first you don't know if you like them or not but eventually you fall in love with them. There's plenty of steamy moments while they're navigating their feelings and getting to know each other. I loved that Jay was being flirty and enjoyed Ford's friends, I can't wait for their HEA. I recommend this series from Silvia, she doesn't disappoint. Happy reading!

The book opens on what should be a simple court case. The owner/CEO of Montgomery Enterprises made an offer on a warehouse space and at first the owner agrees and then she reneges on the deal. Miles Montgomery is in the right and wants the warehouse, so he sues her. Montgomery Enterprises lawyer and friend since childhood, Ford Wainwright, takes the case.
The opposing counsel is Jasper Rollins. A man that Ford has been crushing on for months. Jasper, or Jay as he's called by family, needs a win to make partner in his firm. He takes advantage of Ford's crush and tries to flirt his way into a negotiation. Even though he's straight.
This case isn't as simple as it seems. And Jay finds that he isn't as straight as he thought.
This is a first time/gay for him, enemies to lovers story. With lots of action. There are some steamy love scenes between Ford and Jay. And great chemistry between the pair. There's some danger as Jay's life is threatened. And it's going to take Ford and his found family of billionaires, Miles, Worth and Carter to save the day.
It's a quick, engrossing read. They're going to get their HEA, but they're going to have to be not dead to enjoy it. Good worldbuilding. The secondary characters are well written. Silvia Violet never fails to deliver.
There should be two more books to follow. Book three is about four months away. I really can't wait.
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my review.

Ford and Jay got to know each other through playing tennis together at a club. Their interactions have been colored by preconceived notions as well as the way Jay flirts with Ford even as he claims to be straight. When Jay gets a case that pits him against Ford in court, things get out of control in a hurry.

I wasn't a fan of how Jay used Ford's attraction against him, but I was glad when Jay finally starts to sort himself out and acknowledge there was more there than he admitted to. I'm glad that Ford was willing to help Jay when things get dicey related to their mutual case. I'm glad that once Jay admitted his attraction that he didn't back down and change his mind. Ford deserved someone that loved him, accepted him, and stood by him. While they both took risks to protect the other, I'm glad that the situation gave them time to cement the growing feelings between them.

I liked seeing that Ford and Miles are more capable than one would have suspected initially, but the risks they all take are crazy at times. I wonder how Carter feels trying to keep them all safe. I loved seeing more of Carter in this one and I really hope that his book is next.

Ford and Jay (or Jasper) have been courtroom & tennis court rivals for some time and each hides buttoned up emotions from their early childhood years that have molded each other's present personalities. But a pending case has all the earmarks for disaster. Ford's close friend Miles is going after a breach-of-contract, namely Lisa Jenkins, and Ford has discovered his nemesis Jay Rollins is the defense lawyer. The legal drama takes second place as the theme of Ford and Jay fighting their mutual attraction by off-putting jokes, innuendos, slang comebacks, and friends & relatives who recognize their sexual attraction. The legal drama involves nasty guys, drugs, etc. but this action comes to a head in the latter chapters. These two, Ford and Jay, have much more in common and the HEA ending plays right along as quite a surprise ending. Though it was a slow journey in my opinion I did like the story as a whole. And look forward to Book 3 in this Bad Boy Billionaires series. I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.

Ford Wainwright is a billionaire lawyer and has wanted a fellow lawyer and tennis club member Jasper “Jay” Rollins from the moment he saw him but he insists he is straight however he does flirt with Ford every chance he gets. The chemistry between them ignites when they end up on opposing sides of a case that threatens their lives on top of their professional reputations. Can Ford keep them both safe with his resources and stop Jay from breaking his heart?

Wow, this story was full of drama, intrigue, danger and passion. I loved the way that Jay was determined to look after his Gran and sister and that meant that he would do everything he had to even if it meant he had to keep doing a job he had learned to hate. Ford was just as passionate about protecting those he loved including Jay whether he was happy about it or not. It was nice to know more about the other men from the first book in the series too. Easy to read, feel and understand I was thrilled when they were still together at the end. This is an MM story with mature content.

Absolutely amazing!

I loved this book! It’s the story of Ford and Jay and it’s quite the tale! Both are lawyers who play in the same tennis club. Ford is very interested in Jay but the feelings are reciprocated. They will come face to face when Ford’s client and best friend Miles brings a lawsuit against a client Jay’s firm represents. The two will get thrown together by this case that is more than it seems. Hate turns to other explosive feelings the more time the two spend together. When the danger gets too close to a member of Jay’s family, the two men find themselves forced to spend all their time together until the danger is past. Feelings will develop and be revealed once the danger has truly passed and it will allow both Ford and Jay to find what they need in each other and get their happily ever after.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review!

I will be honest and say I loved the first book a lot more. Not for any major reasons other than personal preference- the two somewhat asshole alpha males fighting for dominance over each other just wasn’t hitting for me. I liked the softer moments between them and the fight to discover the truth of what was going on was entertaining. Plus like her other works, the spice is always great. I think I just needed a little more dimension from the start for Jay (Jasper) as I personally couldn’t see why he’d suddenly switched his feelings, and then the aggressiveness of their interactions through 80% of the book even when they were supposedly together, I don’t know.

It was still a four star read for me, and I enjoyed the overall. I just think the trope dynamic of this round wasn’t a fit for me.

I’m enjoying this series, Jay and Ford are such fun together. When the two lawyers end up on opposing side of the same case things start getting interesting. I loved how Jay turned the tables on Ford, employing his game plan of strategic flirting. It doesn’t go quite to plan as “straight” Jay starts to get feelings and the attraction is quite real between the two. I always enjoy Silvia Violet book, especially because her characters are so full of personality. Jay and Ford have amazing chemistry and I was so rooting for these two to get together. There is also some compelling suspense added to the mix when their court case starts to get dangerous, but it works to bring them even closer. I loved the couple and I loved the mystery. A definite recommendation.

In 'The Billionaire's Rival' by Silvia Violet, the author skillfully navigates the edge of intrigue, where characters, while not inherently 'bad boys,' find themselves entangled in a world teetering on the brink. As one of my must-read authors, Silvia Violet once again delivers a compelling narrative with her signature writing style.
The story unfolds with strong characters and a legal backdrop, as lawyers take on the challenge of thwarting evil. 'The Billionaire's Rival' did not disappoint, offering a riveting blend of suspense, legal drama, and characters who leave a lasting impression.
Silvia Violet's ability to craft engaging stories shines through, making this a captivating read for anyone who appreciates a narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat while bringing all the heat.

But Did You Disassociate: Yes

Spice: hate you to love you spice
MMC and MMC

Two rival lawyers get caught up in some cartel shit and fall in love
Dual POV
HEA
Stand Alone/ No. 2 in a series (Bad Boy Billionaires)

Anything pull me out of the book:
Nope

Extra smiles:
Forced proximity
Protectiveness
First time with a dude, but just for you

They are both lawyers and they have both fallen for each other before the book starts. But one of them is all like “I’m not gay, why do I want him?” Then there is some sketchy cartel shit that leads to having to share a living space. So of course sexy times happen, then things escalate and lovey love happens and sexy love time happens.
There is action and love and none of it is like real life, so enjoy.

Another winner by Silvia Violet!

Jay and Ford are lawyers on opposing sides of a lawsuit. But before that they had a history of competition. Ford has always been attracted to Jay, but Jay insists he's straight although he continues to tease and flirt with Ford to try to use his attraction against him.

With the tension of their current lawsuit and after a few drinks, "straight" Jay pays Ford a latenight visit and let's just say he isn't as straight as they both assumed.

The story shows how their relationship develops from a frenemies with benefits to friends with benefits to something much more while they are thrown together after they both need protection from criminals who want to make sure the lawsuit Ford and Jay are working on goes their way.

Frenemies to lovers, forced proximity

Jay and Ford are rival attorneys.
Jay harbors resentment towards the affluent because of his past so he really doesn't want anything to do with Ford apart from competition.
Ford, however is a very decent and caring man.
He's nothing like people from Jay's past.
A dangerous situation arises concerning a case which leads to Jay seeking Ford for protection.
As they're forced to be close, al kinds of barriers are crossed.
There's plenty of steamy moments between these two that leads to them slowly getting to know one another.
That in turn leads to Jay slowly lowering his defenses and letting Ford in.
There's lots of fast paced action, danger, drama and suspense that kept me thoroughly engaged and racing towards the end.

Opposites Attract

This second book in the series finds frenemies Jay and Ford as competitive lawyers and rivals on the tennis court. That is until trouble comes calling and Ford's friends, Miles, Carter, and Worth come to the rescue. Mrs. Weeks is still running her knitting group and Ford decides he's going to teach Jay. I loved how close Jay was to his grandmother and his sister Emily. I guess the saying opposites attract does ring true because Ford and Jay couldn't be more different from each other but they get their HEA and the bad guys lose. I can't wait for Carter's book next. I highly recommend this series and once again Silvia gives us an epilogue and a bonus scene.

Ford and Jay story was intense, sweet, and with an interesting pairing of two rivals.
It was entertaining to see their interactions until they recognised their feelings.
Their differences and social status contributed to their divergences as well as not realising their true feelings until danger stroked.
I liked how protective they become of each other as well as the way they make friends, as well as the way some hearts thawed after a while.
I liked the danger and adrenaline, as well as the way frirnds helped them out of danger.
I enjoyed the read and I'm looking forward to see what happens next.

Lawyers in Love! This was a unique situation as Jay and Ford are both lawyers but for different firms. Jay is quite bitter about how challenging his past has been and he jabs at Ford. Yes, Ford is rich, but he is actually a quite a caring man. I really liked Ford. Jay finds himself in a very dangerous situation which lands him staying with Ford. It definitely took forced proximity for these two work things out. Things get surprisingly steamy, and Jay starts to let down his walls and attitude. They both become protective of each other as they try to stay out of harm's way. Very intense and exciting story and romance.

I really enjoyed this book. Jay and Ford did not have an easy romance. The rivals find themselves in very dangerous waters while working opposite sides of a legal battle. What started off as a very antagonistic relationship became something really beautiful. Although the story moved pretty quickly, it never felt rushed. Ford's protectiveness was clear early on. When Jay's protective side made an appearance, I fell in love. The side characters in this book were excellent. (I really love Ford's friend group.) The action and the romance was a perfect combination. I am excited for the next book in the series.

I received an ARC for my honest review.

Ford and Jay are a bit different from the pair in the first book. That’s not a bad thing at all. The author always writes mesmerizing characters. At first, I didn’t love Jay, but Ford’s unique qualities attached to me instantly. Not to mention his banter and relationship with his friends. As their story progressed, I was rooting for them equally.

I did prefer the first book if I had to choose, but that is due to slight Lucien vibes which is my favorite book from the author. For me, it was another great pairing and story. I can’t wait for the rest of their stories.

I received this book as an ARC but my review is my own opinion.
I have been reading this genre for over 3 years and thought I had seen every trope, but was mistaken, I love the cliff hangers throughout the book, the characters have real dilemmas. two attourneys on opposing sides. From badass to needy and hurt. A real feel good book with a HEA. I read it in one sitting and cannot wait for the next one. I might have to start this authors catalogue again I love their style and the "realness" and depth of their characters, and the other people in their lives.

Ford and Jay are too cute for words. Billionaire’s Rival is the second book in Silvia Violet’s series, and it can be read as a standalone. (However, I wouldn’t skip the first book because it is just as good, and those characters appear in this book.) I never can figure out how enemies can turn to lovers, but Violet makes it seem easy. This one is full of snark and sparks from the get-go. The spice level is perfect—just enough heat to give it a full flavor without the risk of heartburn. Recommend!

I really enjoyed this book. The second in the Bad Boy Billionaires series definitely lives up to the first. Great story and plot. Enemies to lovers, rivals, a little intrigue. Great chemistry between the MCs. I liked the interaction with the secondary characters. While stand-alone, I recommend reading the first book to get to know all the Billionaires as each book focuses on one. You won’t be disappointed, highly recommend.

Your serve

Rivals to lovers is such a fun trope. Not quite full on enemies but there’s plenty of UST to spark a fire. And Jay’s awakening has tons of heat.

“How the hell did it feel so good to kiss a guy—no, not any guy, to kiss Ford.”

I enjoyed the volleying between Ford and Jay, both at work and in play. And when push comes to shove, these two have plenty of protection surrounding them. Speaking of, if the next book is who I think it is, I welcome the chaos.

This author is brillant and the stories never fail to be enjoyable.

I really believed Ford was a stuffy attorney, but as this book progressed, I could see all that I had wrong about him. He was more badass and stubborn than I expected. As for Jay, hebwas no where near as cold and unfeeling as he tries to show. His family and loved ones are his priority even over himself. When they FINALLY work out how they both feel they would put their lives on the line for the other. Loved it
