A beautiful bride-to-be, fell hopelessly in love with another man. A man she could never marry.... A world-class horseman and film director, lived a glittering jet-set life that Molly could never be a part of.
Against all odds, fate would give their love a second chance. Years later, as Molly struggled to raise her daughter in the wake of betrayal, she dreamed of her beloved Carey.
Then, one day he appeared-more glamorous, wealthy, and irresistible than she ever remembered, Now she was ready to embrace his world...his passions...His fast-paced lifestyle....
And it all began rather serendipitously. Long ago, as they say, in another time, when fast food hadn't reached our area and the only shopping was what the feed mill offered, I was reading a book that annoyed me .
My husband was lying beside me in bed, watching TV. Turning to him, I sort of petulantly said, "How the hell did this book get published?"
"If you think you're so smart," he replied, with one eye still on the TV, "why don't you write a book?"
So I did. And very badly.
I've since learned how to do, he said, she said, and a great variety of other adverb heavy, sometimes lengthy explanations of why my characters are saying what they're saying, along with finally coming to an understanding of what things like POV means. Point of View for you non-writers}.
Although, I still don't fully comprehend why it matters if you switch POV and I cavalierly disregard it as much as possible. So while my technical skills have hopefully improved, what hasn't changed is my great joy in writing. There's as much pleasure today in listening to my characters talk while I type as fast as I can, as there was the first time I put dialogue to paper--in long-hand, then, in my leather bound sketch-book.
Carey & Molly story is truly magical. This book had it all action to sweet romance. The story does move through past and present but it flows beautiful.
Read in two days. Just coming off reading Gone with the Wind and Lonesome Dove, I was looking for quick, light and enjoyable escape. Hot Streak fit that bill. Found myself manufacturing time and escaping to enjoy the story. I would get in the school pick-up line 5 or ten minutes early so I could read or I'd stay at soccer practice and read in the car instead of running errands. I really like the main male character Carey, too good to be true, but just was I was looking for. The rest of the characters were fun, interesting additions to add flavor to the book. Like a good salad with Not too many characters to keep track of but plenty of different personalities to keep it interesting. I always enjoy books that include kids and I liked the little girl, Carrie too. A little weird the author used homophones for the daughter and the father's names. I had to focus on the spelling a few times to differentiate. I think she could have come up with something else that could have connected them in the same way without choosing the same name. Back to reality. Will look for more books by this author on the 'J' racks at my local library next time.
i found this book very action pacted. i liked the fact that it was a mix of romanec and mystery. this is a great book for people who love an intense plot line and three dimensional characters
I enjoy Susan Johnson stories which are very sensual. This one was good with lots of action and their love is tested but I prefer her historical novels.
