Dark hockey romance, yes yes yes!!!
I was completely captivated from beginning to end. This first installment of the duet concludes with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the sequel.
Zoe's life hasn't been the best, constantly being reminded by her parents that she's worthless and won't amount to anything. The only aspect she feels she can manage is the selection of men she allows into her life. When the chance arises to explore her deepest desires with a stranger, she seizes it eagerly. It fulfills her expectations in every way, except for one crucial detail—she never sees his face or learns his real name. Nevertheless, she's learned to always exit before emotions get involved, ensuring she controls her heart.
Dominik, Zoe's brother's best friend since high school. He's dark, possessive, edgy, and sure he has flaws, but he's the perfect book boyfriend!!
We get the typical, "my sister is off-limits" trope, and yeah, despite being warned to never pursue her romantically, Dominik respects this boundary....kinda. While at a BDSM masquerade ball one night, Dominik instantly recognizes Zoe. Unable to resist this magnetic pull toward her has towards her, he convinces himself it's just a one-night indulgence to quell his desires. Little does he know, his attraction for Zoe only intensifies with time. Like he is OBSESSED, in a good way.
Can we talk about that CLIFFHANGER, I don't want to give anything away but holy shit when she realizes... I felt so sad for her!
One issue, which honestly does not make sense to me, is how does she not recognize him at the BDSM party? As only half his face was covered. He’s literally her brother's best friend since HS, also his voice?? surely she’d recognize it? It's just slightly unrealistic.
But overall, I LOVED THIS!! It was soo heartwrenchingly good I need more! I loved their chemistry and their budding romance. I'm obsessed with these two!

i’ve never read a dark hockey romance before, so this book immediately caught my attention. i was wary of the fact that this had dub-con, cause that’s a trigger/trope that i hate. but despite the darker topics and situations in here, i loved this book and it’s characters— the tension between Zoe and Dominik was beyond palpable and the bits of spice that were given did not disappoint. i thought this would just be a steamy book with no substance, but i ended up being pleasantly surprised that i was kinda wrong. the cliffhanger ending is criminal btw.. i need the next book NOWWWW!

➵ Zoe - i have never related to a character more and she’s the main reason for the high rating. the way she processes her familial trauma and intrusive thoughts had me in my feels.. maybe it’s because of my current headspace, but something about reading from her perspective felt so therapeutic for me. i also just think she’s funny af and i loved how willing she was to help Dominik and the way she cared so much for her brother— she holds no resentment and came across as a very strong person in search of her place in life.
“You think you’re not scared of me. Until I decide to hunt you down and take what’s mine. I play dirty when provoked. And you’re fucking provoking me.”
➵ Dominik - he’s the literal definition of a man obsessed. he does questionable things that are 100% red flags but they look green to me with the way he worships the ground Zoe walks on. i loved how he empowered Zoe to voice her desires and made her feel comfortable at every moment— whether she knew it directly or not. the fact that he’s hot is just icing on the cake lol. i thought his internal struggle to do right by his bestfriend while also caring for Zoe so deeply from afar was admirable in a sense, he’s really nothing like what i originally expected.
”She thinks people don’t see the way she hides, and maybe she’s right, maybe people don’t notice, but I do. I’ve always noticed.”
so.. was this the best written book ever? no. was there some corny phrases? yes. did any of that bother me? not at all. the one thing i did want more of was actual hockey scenes with Dominik on the ice, but im hoping that’ll be in the next book. all my favorite tropes were in here too: brothers best friend, forced proximity and fake dating, so i can’t really complain too much.
”These walls will never witness anything more beautiful than Zoe Jackson. She is the most priceless piece of art there is.”

It had a lot of potential. I love a good over the top obsessed MMC. The issue with this is he supposedly is so obsessed that he fucks her in a mask stalks her but fucks and fucks other women. It was a lame excuse not to pursue her. He lied to her. He betrayed her. He used other women to try and get over it. I wish that was called out more. Even if you are not in a relationship no ones wants to be fucked in place of another person where the other person is thinking of another woman. I would have loved this book if I felt like he was truly obsessed but I did not. He went six years without going for her. He wanted to get rid of her. The fucking around really leaves a bad taste and I really struggle in believing the relationship or feelings when this is done. The scene where he hooks up with a OW and hightails it out feeling bad and not getting off. He still made that decision to use that woman. He is so obsessed he is doing that really far in. Not kissing anyone big fucking deal. Sticking your dick in someone is pretty darn personal. If you think kissing is the line while you continue to fuck others I don’t believe you will stay faithful I mean apparently what’s the big deal right? Disappointed!

I am actually a bit surprised at how let down I am by this one. I don’t know if I just set my expectations too high or if it was just because I was in a bit of a slump or what, but ultimately I was a little bored and it took me a while to get into this one. I will say I did quite enjoy the flashbacks to the primal play masquerade scene, but other than that literally nothing happened until roughly 60% into the book. That cliffhanger though…OUCH! I have a feeling part two is going to be much more entertaining and I cannot wait to find out.

I have found my new dark hockey romance obsession. This book literally surprised me and I was not expecting to be as obsessed as I am. I immediately fell in love with Tina’s writing style and captivated from beginning to end. This book is part 1 in a duet so it ends on a cliffhanger and it’s a doozy.
This story follows Zoe and Dominik. They have known each other for years through Zoe’s brother. Zoe is having to move to NY and live with her brother for a while after a situation at her job takes a turn. Dominik is her brother’s NHL playing BFF and who as been secretly obsessed with Zoe for years. Dom has a PR nightmare situation come about and ends up fake dating Zoe….and that’s all I want to say.
These characters and this book was everything! The inner battle that Dominik struggles with to keep himself in check with his attraction to Zoe and loyalty to his BFF will have you on the edge of your seat. Their story is so complex. Zzoe has had such a hard life, but is such a strong FMC. Dominik is hard to read and understand, but once you do everything makes sense. Their connection to one another is so magnetic
I really enjoyed the past and present narratives. I know that isn’t a popular opinion but I really enjoyed seeing those past moments between the two of them.
Thank you to Tina and team for the eARC. Literally salivating at the mouth for book 2…I can’t believe you did us like that.

I just buddy read this book and we all went feral for Dominik Lewis and I think you will too! So if you love a hockey romance with darker topics with BDSM k!nky goodness, this one is for you!

💭 My Thoughts: It's as if Tina herself was like I am going to write a book that is specifically for Kayla. Because when I tell you that this book had ALL of my favorite tropes, it had ALL OF MY FAVORITE TROPES! I'm a hoe for the brother's best friend trope. It makes me so feral. But sprinkle in a hockey player MMC with dark elements and your girl is sold! It's an automatic read for me. And let me tell you something, it only took me 5 chapters to realize that Dominik was now on my favorite book boyfriend list and that this was going to be a 5 star read for me! I could NOT put this book down!
One of my favorite characteristics that a MMC can possess if when they are so damn obsessed with the FMC. And this man is SOOOOOO OBSESSED! And I loved every moment of it! Now I won't talk about the major secret that Dominik has been hiding for years that Zoe does not know because it will ruin the spicy goodness of Part Two and it will also ruin the cliffhanger but it's so good! Like the fact that this man did what he did to help her lean into some fantasies was pure perfection. And the way he tried to get over his obsession but can't was so good.
As for Zoe, she has a very traumatic past. Growing up with parents who can kick rocks, it unfortunately has created the adult that Zoe is today. She feels unwanted, unloved and inadequate in all aspects of her life. She truly hit rock bottom in this book so I am excited to see her rise above and become a strong woman in book 2. She deserves the best and I know Dominik will give her that. Also her parents deserve a good throat punching. As for her brother Aaron, I have some suspicions about him. My gut tells me he's keeping some major secrets. Because he's very unlikable in this book.
At the end of the day, I just want to express how much I truly enjoyed this book! I lead a buddy read group on IG with this book and when I tell you we ALL collectively rated this book 5 stars and were all FERAL for Dominik should tell you all you need to know. So please do yourself a favor and add this one to your TBR! You will not be disappointed!

💭 My Thoughts: It's as if Tina herself was like I am going to write a book that is specifically for Kayla. Because when I tell you that this book had ALL of my favorite tropes, it had ALL OF MY FAVORITE TROPES! I'm a hoe for the brother's best friend trope. It makes me so feral. But sprinkle in a hockey player MMC with dark elements and your girl is sold! It's an automatic read for me. And let me tell you something, it only took me 5 chapters to realize that Dominik was now on my favorite book boyfriend list and that this was going to be a 5 star read for me! I could NOT put this book down!
One of my favorite characteristics that a MMC can possess if when they are so damn obsessed with the FMC. And this man is SOOOOOO OBSESSED! And I loved every moment of it! Now I won't talk about the major secret that Dominik has been hiding for years that Zoe does not know because it will ruin the spicy goodness of Part Two and it will also ruin the cliffhanger but it's so good! Like the fact that this man did what he did to help her lean into some fantasies was pure perfection. And the way he tried to get over his obsession but can't was so good.
As for Zoe, she has a very traumatic past. Growing up with parents who can kick rocks, it unfortunately has created the adult that Zoe is today. She feels unwanted, unloved and inadequate in all aspects of her life. She truly hit rock bottom in this book so I am excited to see her rise above and become a strong woman in book 2. She deserves the best and I know Dominik will give her that. Also her parents deserve a good throat punching. As for her brother Aaron, I have some suspicions about him. My gut tells me he's keeping some major secrets. Because he's very unlikable in this book.
At the end of the day, I just want to express how much I truly enjoyed this book! I lead a buddy read group on IG with this book and when I tell you we ALL collectively rated this book 5 stars and were all FERAL for Dominik should tell you all you need to know. So please do yourself a favor and add this one to your TBR! You will not be disappointed!

Okay let's talk about how I straight devoured this and cannot wait to dive into Shattered Hearts after the way this ended! The banter, angst, and tension between Dom and Zoe is insane and so addictive! After a very hot and steamy night together 6 years ago, Dom has not been able to get Zoe off his mind....and it seems that Zoe also has never forgotten her masked man that night either. If you love a darker hockey romance, then you definitely need to check this book out! The audiobook is narrated in dual by Alora Daniel & Brandon Francis and it was so easy to binge listening to it!

So I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook for this book and let me just say how good it was! The narrators were great and did an amazing job with this book. For the actual book itself, it had a great plot, a bit more of a slow burn but it was a brothers best friends fake girlfriend romance, a bit of enemies to lovers kind of situation. And even though it was a slow burn it had some great spice and tension which I’m hoping will carry on and get even more in the second book!

I was craving a dark hockey romance & Tina came through and made it even better by adding the tropes; brothers best friend, heavy bdsm &fake dating.
I devoured this book, it was a one sitting read that had me hooked from the beginning all the way to the cliffhanger & god damn where it leaves off has me so excited for book 2.
I went into this blind and i loved the wild ride it took me one. If you are a dark romance lovers with no hard triggers I highly recommend going in blind.

This book was a trippppp, I typically don't enjoy books with cliffhangers unless I have the next book lined up and ready to go but let. me. tell. you. It was worth the agony of having to wait for Shattered Hearts.
Dominik is a pro-hockey player with a playboy image that has had an obsession with Zoe since he met her in high school. You have the typical "if I can't have her I'll pretend I hate her" attitude with Dom but there was a lot of layers beneath the character. With a love for stalking, Haunting and Hunting Adeline fans would enjoy this book as well as those who love a good dark hockey romance. It is a slowwwww burn (think Penelope Douglas) and at times I was wanting it to pick up a little faster, but the last 25% or so of the book made up for it when the pieces all started falling into place.
Zoe's parents neglect is heartbreaking and her self-deprecating was sad to read and almost too common. Her character was relatable and likable, and I'm excited to see more of her and Aaron's relationship because I do not trust Aaron tbh. The way Aaron casted Zoe aside once their parents came into town was maddening and made me wonder about him and the mystery behind his "constant working" (or was he????)
Overall the book was great, it was a book that reminded me how much I enjoy reading and the insane emotions the fictional words can pull from you, and has me ready for the second one. If you enjoy dark romance, hockey, morally grey men, BDSM and CNC this book is right up your alley.

The way I DEVOURED this book in less than 48 hours… of course it’s a five-star read - OMG. If you like dark romance, forced proximity, brother’s best friend, hockey super star reads, let me tell you, you are in for a wild ride. This book is so well written, I don’t even feel like I was reading a book. I was completely immersed in their world, this duo is absolutely to die for. There were so many instances where my heart was going to leave my body. I love when a book can make me feel so many emotions. This book includes dual POV and is broken up into 3 parts which ties their story wonderfully. I’m ready for that second book with that ending. It was everything I had hoped for. Also, let’s take a moment to appreciate the fact that the main characters actually enjoy reading too! It makes them all the more relatable and the Spotify playlist is 🔥Anyways, go buy this book! Zade WHO? Dominik Lewis has taken the crown. I found myself completely captivated with Tina’s writing style instantly. With this being a dark hockey romance, I wasn’t expecting this high level of prose, but I don’t think I have ever saved or highlighted so many eloquent quotes or paragraphs in a dark romance novel. This story is BEAUTIFULLY written and I found myself getting totally immersed in these characters. Especially Zoe. Her trauma and personality resonated with me in a way that I will never get over.
The inner battle that Dominik struggles with to keep himself in check will have you on the edge of your seat. The spice to plot ratio was perfect for me, but might seem slow for those who don’t enjoy a slower burn. Definitely check trigger warnings (as you always should) and be mindful that this ends on a “cliffy” and book 2 isn’t out yet. HOWEVER, it’s now my favorite cliffhanger of all time, ever. Thank you Tina for deciding to share Dom and Zoe’s story. I can’t wait for more!

2.5 ⭐️ didn’t realize it was a 2 book series and this could’ve been one book there were so many parts that could’ve been left out but I did eat it up and I will be reading the second book because I need to know what happens
