As a mom and teacher I love that this book teaches about going to the dentist. It helps kids understand what happens there. I wish it had mentioned x-rays and that you should brush AND floss, but it is a great start.

Going To The Dentist is an Usborne First Experiences book written by Anne Civardi. It is similar to a social story in that it introduces children to new experience and situations they might find themselves in. The aim of these books is usually to take the apprehension away from these new people or places.

The first page of this book is really useful as it has a note to the parents. This details how best to read the book, suggesting that that you read the book aloud first and discuss the pictures. Followed by reading the book a second time with some shorter text at the top of the page for the children and the longer text at the bottom. I think this is great layout as it encourages the children to read along with their parents but also allows the story to have the longer more complicated text which contains the extra detail needed to be a useful 'first experience' book. In addition, each page has a yellow duck for the children to find, again making the book interactive and encouraging them to look closely at picture.

Overall I think the book could be really useful in calming any nerves around visiting the dentist, however I think some of the topical language used towards the end is aimed at the end of Reception, Year 1 and possibly Year 2 when children have probably already visited the dentist.

As the title suggests, this picture book is about going to the dentist. The pages detail what happens when the dentist and staff clean a child's teeth, as well as what happens when they discover a cavity. The only part that is different at our local dentist is that a cavity usually requires a separate visit. Nevertheless, I think this book would be calming for a child to read -- helping them understand the importance of going to a dentist as well as knowing the staff is friendly and concerned about the health of their teeth.

Jake and Jessie have to go to their dentist appointment. From the waiting room, to be called in, then into the special chair, and the check up, Jessie gets her teeth cleaned and she's done. Jake, however, has a small hole in his tooth and needs to get a filling.

Great book for little ones about to take their first visit to the dentist. This is accurate right down to making the next six month appointment at the end of their visit.

A little boy goes to the dentist, gets his teeth cleaned, and has a cavity filled.

I did not know that in the UK dental hygienists are called dental nurses. It was a new term to me, and felt jarring every time I read it in this story. Other than that, this is a good picture of what it is like to go to the dentist regardless of culture.

This book encourages children to take care of their teeth. Going to the dentist is not terrible as some children think. The dentist gives children some foods such as sugar and sweets that are bad for teeth.

I really think this book is the reason my 4 year old sat happily for a cavity being filled. He needed no laughing gas or sedation. We read this book every night leading up to his cavity appointment! Highly recommend!

This book is excellent. This book has two separate versions which may be read independently or as a longer story. The version at the top of the page is a simple sentence version of the book and is approximately a first grade reading level. The version at the bottom of the page is a more complicated and detailed version of the book and is approximately a second or third grade reading level. A great way to read this book to a baby or toddler is to read only the top line. As the child gets older, read the bottom line as well. When the child starts to read, have them read the top line and you the bottom line. This will give them a great sense of accomplishment which is so important for success in reading. This is a book that can grow with your child. Don't forget to look for the duck on each page. Purchase this book at my Independent Consultant Website: www.ubah.com/s2995

Jake and Jessie, brother and sister take a trip to the dentist for a check up. Jessie gets her teeth checked first and Jake second. Jessie doesn't have any problems, while Jake needs a filling. In the end, the two children learn how to take care of their teeth and the consequences if they do not eat right and take care of them properly.

This book was not my favorite, but it wasn't bad because it teaches children about the dentist and what happens if they do not take care of their teeth.

Children are able to learn exactly what the dentist is like before having to go for the first time, and also how to take care of their teeth. I think that this book is a good preparation for children whom are nervous about going to the dentist.

The kids didn't appreciate this book too much, probably because they've already been to the dentist more than once. But Keelin picked it so we read it. I think it's a good book for reading to a child that is going to the dentist for the first time.

This book is a very sort simple story. The illustrations are very detailed and eye cathching. It's good to readi n small groups with a few copies, one for each child and to take turns practicing reading different roles.

Great to teach kids on the autism spectrum.
It talks about everything from booking the appointment, the waiting room, the cleaning, instruments used, and how to care for our teeth using great illustrations.

This would be a good concept book to teach children that going to the dentist is natural and healthy. I would use this in my classroom so that the children can read it. Also I would use this to teach about teeth and being healthy.

Simple dual reader explaining what happens when we go to the dentist. Very easy for small children to understand. There is also that small duck to find on every page, which makes it more engaging for children to look at.

This was a very basic book about a kids trip to the dentist. It is cute and geared toward lower elementary. Does teach some useful concepts.
