I bought the Indonesian version of this book when I was in elementary school. I saved my pocket money just to bring this book home from a bookstore. I couldn't read enough of it. I lived from one story to another. The pictures are beautiful, too.
I still keep it after all this years and my daughter (who is 17 now) loves it, too.

I STILL read these fairy tales sometimes when I can't sleep. My all time favorite is "Through the Fire."

One of a kind!! I love the pictures (by Mrs. Hilda Boswell) and the stories (various authors). In fact, this book was my inspiration when (my parents) found out my painting talents. A wonderful bed-time story to share with your kids:)

My favourite childhood storybook.

Few books have influenced me as much as this one. It's not just the fantastic collection of little-known stories, it's the illustrations that live and breathe! This book inspired hours of play as a child, and as an adult, the images are some of my greatest inspiration. Ethereal and enchanting, with stories of real heart, this book is one of the greatest gifts of imagination. I LOVE IT (in case I wasn't being clear enough).

My favorite children's story book of all time. I got this book when I was 5 years old and I love it. The whole book is filled with amazing illustrations and stories you won't find anywhere. I lost it due to specific reason and sadly I can't find another copy. It's been years and I hope they decide to reprint it again.

My precious. ;)

First impression does count!

Another fond favorite from my childhood that my Dad bought for me and my sisters. I remember so many long evenings of being sprawled out on our rug at home reading the fairytales in this book from cover to cover, but even more delightful were the absolutely gorgeous illustrations.
We lost this book somehow and even before it was lost, the cover ripped off and disappeared somewhere. Our copy was much loved and I keep meaning to buy another copy, but I think it is rather expensive--I saw a copy for 50 dollars somewhere online once and didn't want to part with the money at the time. Making a mental note to obtain a copy. I remember my favorite story in here was the one about the Fire Princess. I can't remember if that was exactly what it was called but those gorgeous illustrations are still a vivid part of my imagination.

My favorite children's book ever. I had this growing up and relived the magic of every story over and over again each time I re-read it. I have this copy in Vigan but I can't find it anymore but will try to find it online

I read the Indonesian version of this book; this was initially my mother's childhood book! I love everything, the illustrations, the unique stories. This is not your traditional princess-y fairy tale book. A must read, whether you are a child or an adult.

May 6, 2025I was happy to find a copy of this book at a local charity store. Hilda Boswell's Treasury of Poetry was one of my favourite childhood books, but I didn't learn until recently that there were other treasuries of hers I could add to my collection.

The most beautiful children story I've read in my life.
My mom bought me the book when I was still 8 years old. But my schoolmate borrowed it and never returned it back to me. I love the book, and has tried to buy one from Amazon, but couldn't because they refused to ship it to Indonesia...=(
Update: after tens of year of waiting, I finally cradled the book in my arms...Thank you boy friend! ^_^

I received this book in Indonesian translation as a birthday present from my aunt when I was 8 years old in the early '80s. I love this book so much, I always keep it in a safe place. And I still have it now :)
