Let me be the first to welcome you to the Eternal City.
It is truly alive, above, with millions of souls and their tales entwined. With towering landmarks and artifacts, both mundane and arcane, bustling bazaars, and taverns filled with candid laughter and shisha smoke.
But the city also lives below. The passages crawling in the darkest of the alleyways lead to catacombs, then to abandoned palaces, now buried below 40 layers of earth. My humble guess is that what you seek rests there. But be warned. Those dark hallways echo with the wandering dead and the damned, with faded seekers, hexcasters, and the sealed ones.
Visit me at my parlor for coffee once you have the chance to explore this sublime city.
Sadly my original review has disappeared into the aether between the time that I wrote it and when THE CITY OF THE CRESCENT appeared on Goodreads (a change in GR policy prevented random schmucks like myself from adding books to their database). I will do my best to reconstruct it, but in the meantime. 4.5 stars. Fantastic and well thought out fusion of history and magic. I originally got this through Kickstarter and it is seriously impressive. I just received the two book set of their second game setting EMPIRES OF THE SILK ROAD and HERALD OF RAIN (to read) yesterday and have invested in their third project ERA OF THE CRUSADES. I'm not sure if the CITY OF THE CRESCENT is still available for purchase, but I highly recommend it.
