Whenever I rate a classical book five stars, I always am very confused as to what to say about it, because, come on, I gave it five stars, so obviously, I loved it, and if there’s nothing to criticize, what will I talk about? But I will try to be coherent.

Firstly, the writing was exquisite. Every single sentence seemed like it was taken straight from a deity’s mouth, every single word miss Shelley chose was so fitting, and the prose flow smoothly and convincingly. It’s definitely one of the most beautifully written books I’ve read in a while.

Secondly, when I was trying to read this two years ago, I was quite bored and had to put it down but now I must admit there was not a dull moment while reading. Also, Frankenstein had been out there for a while and I even read some retellings of it yet still I managed to be surprised by where the plot was taking me and shocked by how all the events unfolded.

Thirdly, that cute little monster, I want to hug him so bad! I can’t imagine what it’s like to wake up without knowing anything about anything, to have the person who created you and is supposed to love you hates you instead (imagine if god was a vengeful beast and called you a demon every step of the way) and oh, I just felt so sorry for him… I cried multiple times when he was telling Victor what had happened to him, how he could not talk or understand anything, how cold and hungry and alone he felt, how hard he was trying for humans to like him but he only got violated in return… and, unfortunately, I could relate to a lot of that. I didn’t think I’d side with the monster, but I totally understand why he did what he did.

Didn’t I already say it? 5/5

Read for lexile project
Lexile: 200

So I'm seeing the drastic change in the lexile level. This one has multiple sentences (albeit short sentences) on a page.

This story is trite, even for a 1st-reader story. Although, if your reader likes dogs and/or cats, they will probably like to see the two getting along like friends in this story.

A dog named Happy and a cat named Honey play together outdoors in the fall weather. In easy-to-read words and arrangement this is a sweet story of early readers. Great illustrations.

I've had this book on my "to-read" book shelf now for about two and a half years. Sheesh! I do go through it regularly and put the books I can find on hold, but I add to it regularly, too, and it never seems to shrink at all. In any case, I could never find this book until we moved. Now, our youngest can read the whole thing by herself and she was so proud of herself for doing so. I hope to find more truly easy readers like this one; ones that are confidence-building, yet still somewhat interesting, too. Cute illustrations, as we have come to expect from Jane Chapman.

My 6 year old son recently borrowed this book from his school library.

This book is about a dog named Happy and a cat named Honey as they enjoy Fall. Follow along as they show you what they think is the best Fall of all for them.

The book has easy text, my son needed no help with reading or understanding the information. Has nice illustrations to go along with the text. Great little book for beginner. Shows compassion and friendship. We read 3 times.
