Best selling author Melanie Larson’s relationship with her friend, Chloe Carpenter, is bleak. Falsely accused of murder, Chloe’s future rests in the hands of her mate, Zane Marshall, and the Pacific Pack’s purebred werewolves. In an effort to help, Melanie joins forces with the pack and soon discovers the monsters she writes about in her paranormal novels really do go bump in the night.

Strangely attracted to a brazen vampire, she must decide if the blurred line between passion and pain is worth crossing.
Werewolves, vampires, and fae royalty race to unearth an ancient artifact with the power to extend their existence. Can Chloe and Melanie restore their friendship in time to stop magical mayhem from ruining everything they have worked so hard to redeem?
As an Author, I could be considered "genre-confused."
Are you already wondering what in the world is this lady talking about? ... genre-confused.
Let me explain!
I started my career writing Christian fiction, spiritual suspense and spiritual warfare stories. Good vs. Evil. Angels and Demons. I also am a contributor to a number of devotionals and anthologies by publishers like Zondervan and Regal.
However, I've always had a love for paranormal romance and gritty urban fantasy, prompting me to write my first paranormal romance/fantasy, I Kissed a Dog, Book One in the Werewolves of the West series. Published by Charles River Press/Cambridge Press, US.
I still love to inspire others as well, thus leading to my other new book, Soul Defenders: The Black Orchids, a completely rewritten version of my first book, Slaying the Shadows.
Are you with me? So ... considering the different audiences, what does my work have in common:
1. Heart stopping action. 2. Mystery and suspense. 3. Good vs. Evil 4. Love and blossoming romance in the midst of crisis situations. 5. Characters that are forced beyond their comfort zones and challenged to face their fears and overcome. 6. A major "Who dunnit factor." 7. Plenty of twists, turns, and subplots.
So, maybe I'm not really confusing after all, just diverse!
Please Note:
Both I Kissed a Dog and Soul Defenders will have a variety of e-versions coming soon. Currently, Soul Defenders is available on the Kindle Platform and in trade paperback. I Kissed a Dog is exclusively on Amazon (trade paperback) until its official release date of October 20, 2012. You can also pre-order at Barnes and Noble. If you'd like an autographed copy, just contact me.
Oh Alcuin I loved your undead a**, "Doll, you're staring at me but you aren't seeing. Did my compliment unsettle you?" I loved the connection Melanie and Alcuin had, "I have done everything possible to avoid this inevitability. I want you so bad I hurt. I ache for you, Melanie Larson, in more places than my fangs. This act will indeed bring you greater protection against our enemies, but also it will bring me great satisfaction to claim you." Melanie I loved her as well, but I loved how Alcuin cherished her, "you've managed to slay the beast, sweet Melanie," he whispered. "We've connected in a manner I hadn't believed possible. You are mine, and I am your, in every way." And when his woman goes missing he will literally break all Hell to get her back, "baby, I'm nothing without you. I've never felt more possessive. If anyone ever touches you again, I will kill them and ask questions later." I love this series and I can't wait to see what characters are next.

I love this series, it’s filled with suspense, twist and turns you do not see coming. It has a few really strong female characters too. I liked the first book, I Kissed a Dog a lot, and was afraid I would not like this one as much, as I thought it would not have as much of Chloe in it, and only her friend Melanie, whom we really do not know much about from the first, so to me thought it would be weird. But we get alternating point of views from the 2 females, which I liked.
I think I still like book one better. I still liked this one, just not as much. I didn’t like the quick instant love and fall into bed part in this one. Just felt rushed some. That isn’t the case in book one, and wish this one would have been more like it in that area. I guess to me that is the only flaw.
I won’t say more so not to ruin it for anyone. If you have not read either book, for sure start with book one, I Kissed a Dog, then read this one, She Kissed a Vampire.
The cover on this one I love didn’t care for book ones cover, mostly as it just has a too busy of a look to it, and is blurry, and not paranormal feeling to me. It certainly would not get me to stop and take a second look, where book 2 would.
I do recommend this series to the paranormal lovers out there.
5 out of 5 stars.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
Warning – This is the second book in The Werewolves of the West Series and I’ll do my best not to include spoilers.
I felt the author really hit her stride right out of the gate in this second book. The action and suspense are palpable right from the first chapter and the romance is a tangled web, with many want to be suitors for Melanie and the newly mated bonds between Chloe and Zane.
I just knew Jazmine and that zebra feasting vamp would get at Chloe. She’s behind bars, framed for multiple murders and Agent Green has nullified her abilities, cutting her off from all who would help her.
War, jealousy, and love all rear their heads in this fun continuation of the series.
When Chloe and Zane were mated she gained a lot of special talents and seemed to have an intuitive sense on how to tap into them. Carol did a great job with this, making Chloe’s easy assimilation believable.
As with the first book, there is so much intrigue and secrets it becomes difficult to tell the good guys from the bad ones. Even some of the bad guys earned my affection. What can I say, they are supernatural and sexy.
Chloe’s best friend Melanie tells her own side of things. She has a secret. She’s jealous of Chloe. Her best friend has attitude and glamour and she often feels like the ugly duckling compared to her.
That all changes when she arrives in Plum Beach to help get Chloe out of jail. The paranormal books she writes earn her six figures a year, and it may be why she was able to accept the news when she finds out most of the people helping Chloe are werewolves, fae, and vamps.
She’s not lacking in suitors either with all these alpha males sniffing at her door, and she feels sexy, lovin every minute of it.
There’s plenty of action, sizzling sex appeal, and so many secrets to be kept and surprises to be revealed. We lost some characters but gained some new ones and this series just got even better.
I was provided a copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
carrying on nicely from "I Kissed A Dog". Straight into the story where Chloe is in jail due to a corrupt hybrid supernatural. He's stripped her of all her gifts so she cant scream for help, telepath messages or anything. As she dreamt one night, she woke up....as her wolf. First she panics, if the corrupt cop finds her like this it would be bad news...but she remembers Zanes abilities to do things while in this form. She manages to break out through the window using those gifts and runs quickly across the road. Another handy gift is her invisibility ability which she uses to watch the jail house - where Zane, the two M's have turned up. Also her best friend Melanie - who is the main character of this book.
Chloe is teleported by the not so nice vamp that wants her, Valamir to somewhere else, she still cant talk to Zane...
The pack searches for Chloe, while Melanie is filled in with details. She is about to go into a bad situation when Alcuin, the good vamp, teleports her away....Melanie is taken with Alcuin straight away....and the feeling is way more than mutual. Their relationship builds as quick as Zane and Chloes did!
Things yet again are going wrong, fallen angels, good angels, warlocks, betrayals again....stand offs....ancient relics being discovered....it goes on and its another brilliant read!
All the characters we met in the first book are still very much involved in this book too, and slowly adding more allies....and more enemies....
Again, really i could write an essay to tell you what events are happening, but again such a well written book with twists and turns and revelations...i hope theres more to this series, and when it does, ill be picking it up!!

Well, Chloe’s in trouble again and there’s a ton of HAWT male pieces and some new friends as well as some not so nice bad guys!! Yep we’re in for some more excellent fun and another wild ride! I just love this series! There’s so much to offer, tons of supernatural beings, fantastic mysteries, excellent plot twists and some damn fine eye candy! LOL
Chloe is falsely imprisoned, her best friend runs to her aid but is whisked away by vampires, her mate is trying to find her and keep a war from starting… It’s complicated. And though you get both Chloe and Melanie’s POVs, this one is a little more about Mel, as she’s meeting some new beings that she only thought were real in her fictional writing. She’s also learning that the myths she was using to create her fictional characters are a little off. And she’s got some learning about herself to do. And Mel has a sarcastic side just like Chloe, they aren’t only best friends in name :)
there’s plenty of dudes too! Zane, the two Ms, alcuin, valamir, David, the princes of Fae, the stupid agent green, and so much more! Each have their own roles to play and a side to pick. Boy oh boy is it steamy on here!!
The writing is spectacular! I already loved book one, but I may love book two almost more! This one kept me on edge and had me captivated the entire time! I’m seriously a fan, but I’m also seriously dying for book three now!! I can’t wait for more :) a well written, completely invigorating, full of man candy, and steamy romance, and excellent myths, with lots of supernatural characters- what more could you ask for in a great paranormal read!! 5 MAGNIFICENT HAWT PAWS!!!
She Kissed a Vampire is the second book in the Werewolves of the West series by Carol Van Atta. I know this series is called Werewolves of the West, but there are so many other supernatural critters involved, it's craziness. Along with the Werewolves, we have Vampires, Fae, Witches, Angels, Fallen Angels... I think there was even mention of a Werelion? It was a supernatural smorgasbord, and had the action, suspense, and romance to match.
The story is told from both Chloe and Melanie's point of view. I enjoyed each perspective equally. Alucin is amazing! I'll leave it at that. Melanie was a fun addition. She's pretty much a supernatural man magnet. We are introduced to many new characters, both good and bad, and it's hard to know who to trust. Some of them want something from Chloe and some want something from Melanie. There were twists and turns, and I liked the surprises. The romantic anticipation is intoxicating, and this book is full of it.
She Kissed a Vampire by Carol Van Atta was kindly provided to me by the Bewitching Book Tours for review. The opinions are my own.
I won this book thru Goodreads.com! Carol Van Atta was kind enough to gift me I Kissed a Dog & She Kissed a Vampire on B&N.com :) I love this book ok so this book begins with Chloe in jail, She is being set up by the Dark Fae as the Murder of Plum Beach. The story is told from both Chloe and Melanie's point of view. Melanie is Chloe's best friend and even tho they haven't seen each other in a while they are stronger than glue in there friendship. Melanie is a Writer and recently had a divorce. Once in Plum Beach she discovers the existence of the supernatural world that she had only thought existed in fiction. Zane protects her until they find a way to get Chloe out of jail but Melanie is in serious danger with the dark prince after her. Alucin is a Vampire and he has secrets but he is in love with Melanie and protect her. Without giving to much of this book away I have to say I loved the way Carol uses the two characters to tell the story of what is going on and how it is from the perspective of each character. If you loved I Kissed A Dog you have to read this book you wont regret it! I cant wait to read book 3 & your other series!!
Chloe and Melanie have been friends since childhood. Now Melanie is standing outside a jail wondering who is framing her friend and why it is happening. What Melanie didn‘t know is that she is about to find out that all the paranormal things she has written about is more real than she ever imagined. Melanie is a paranormal writer and has just recently divorced. She is totally sold on the fact that all men are jerks but what if the cool one she just met isn’t just any guy but a vamp, and that good looking husband of her best friend Chloe, well what if he is really a were wolf. You need to read She Kissed a Vampire to find out how discovering the paranormal world is real changes Melanie’s life forever. I love the way Carol uses the two characters to tell the story of what is going on and how it is from the perspective of each character. A definite five star story to keep you entertained and enthralled. Read it and find out how life changes for Melanie when she Kissed a Vampire. Bella Doerres 1/11/14
5 fangs I was gifted this book by Paranormal romance and authors that rock and Carol Van Atta In the second installment of the werewolves of the west series the story continues with Zane and Chloe but also adds Melanie in as the other view in the book. The book follows Melanie’s romance with Alcuin, Chloe’s escape from jail to help the pack, the fallen angels helping the dark fae, and Zane becoming the king of werewolves. Along the way we learn about how there are always good and bad sides even with angels. I really love the two view points from Chloe and Melanie. Its interesting how two best friends could have so different views of the supernatural world but end up being very comfy in it. I was intrigued that these mythical creatures that were pictured as sweet were very out right horrible and that looks can be deceiving. I would recommend this to adults who still love their fantasy books. 18+ because of the sex scenes and heads rolling.
I have read a LOT of books in this genre, Carol Van Atta gives a new twist to her writing that is such a breath of fresh air! In book two Chloe returns along with her best friend Melanie. Melanie is a paranormal writer that doesn't really believe that vampires or werewolves real. Alcuin is a vampire that falls for Melanie. How will she feel when she finds out that not only are they real, but one wants HER? How will take the news that her best friends husband is in fact a werewolf? Sorry, I never give spoilers that will give away the whole book! What I can tell you is that these are truly believable characters and the story has all the drama and hotness you could ask for! I'm hoping there are more in this series!
I loved this book and I had a hard time putting it down. The scenery and characters were well written. I would recommend this book to anyone. Bring on book 3!!!
First off I would like to thank Carol Van Atta for letting me read her book. I quite enjoyed the book, there were times where I found the book to be predictable but then there were times that it did surprise me. It is a series I will keep up on, because I am curious about where the story is going, and what will happen. It took me a while to get into really into the book, because I wasn't sure how I felt about the way everything kept piling up to ruin Chloe but after a while I did see why they where that way, except for Valamir's obsession with Chloe. It would be nice to know why he was so insistence on her even after the mating bond was done. I did enjoy the book it is one that I would probably read again.
