Eleanor Farjeon was an English author of children's stories and plays, poetry, biography, history and satire. Many of her works had charming illustrations by Edward Ardizzone. Some of her correspondence has also been published. She won many literary awards and the prestigious Eleanor Farjeon Award for children's literature is presented annually in her memory by the Children's Book Circle, a society of publishers.

An utterly delightful book which I say as someone who is not always interested in poetry.
The depth of topics and style is quite broad so there was no fear of getting bored, and the poems often depicted daily local life. I could picture today's school children enacting scenes whilst reciting Farjeon's words. I was reading this book within my role as a researcher, but also out of curiosity as Farjeon wrote Morning Has Broken. My interest in that poem/hymn/song has now gone full circle as, from the ages of 4-13, I went to church every Sunday and, from the age of 12 when 'I Love My Dog' was released, I have adored Cat Stevens. Now I am able to enjoy the skill of the author who wrote it.
