Sometimes the unexpected is just what the doctor ordered...
Harper Mason finds solace in hiding. She spends all her days as a school teacher, and spends all her nights reading to her heart's content. It's easier to focus on the happy endings of fictional characters than focus on the realization that she may never have it. That is, until she follows a whim to go visit her big brother, and best friend, Jasper. He lives in Mountain Creek, Colorado working at Marlow Boy's Ranch and he convinces her to stay for the summer-- forcing her to interact and be seen. What she doesn't know is her brother's best friend Everett, who disappeared after high school, is now working there too.
Everett Jones is the ranch's music teacher. He's quiet and reserved and sometimes-- downright grumpy. Hiding from his own past hurts, he loves spending his days with needy boys and away from the heartache he carries. Harper and him were friends growing up, and now he avoids her. He is kind and personable to everyone at the ranch but her, and yet, all she wants is the truth.
With a lifetime of health issues and self doubt, Harper doesn't believe love will conquer all. But, is she wrong? She is falling in love with this place, these boys, and if she isn't careful-- with the brooding talented friend she used to know who has a voice of an angel, instead of a man.

Saying I’m proud of my friend, Ashley is an understatement. I love stories with representation, no matter the kind. In this book it happens to be chronic illness. It always feels good for any person to be able to see themselves in a character whether it be race, background etc..This slow burn, childhood friends to lovers was swoony, a little angsty and full of feels. Harper & Everett’s personal journey through the pain and heartache of both current and past was stuff stories are made of.

There were a few issues that I had with the book as far as editing, but overall I enjoyed it.

If you want a heartwarming, clean romance that makes you think and feel all the things..do yourself a favor and one click this book!!

I haven't read a book in one sitting in a while but this book had me hooked from the first page and I read it all until 1 am! Now before I get into my review I'm going to go ahead and drop the details of what is included in this book since it has more in it physically and more swear words than my typical reviews and books I share/read.

Physical Intimacy: Level 3 (See slide 3 to see what will be included in the book for that level. If you have specific questions feel free to send me a PM)

Swearing: Quite a few swear words (no f words but quite a variety of other ones used)

Triggers: Chronic Illness, Trauma, Self Harm, Talk of Suicide, Abuse

Now with all that said. If you are okay with swear words and more physical intimacy in books while still being closed door then I would totally recommend this one. It does deal with hard and real life topics, but it is handled well and with such heart.

Ashley does such a great job of helping the reader see what life with a chronic illness is like and you cannot help but fall in love with Harper. She has such a soft heart and I love watching her interact with her brother Jasper, Everett, as well as those on the ranch where she spends her summer.

I also loved grumpy and brooding Everett. I loved his devotion to Harper and how he was her champion and took such gentle care with her. I loved that Everett and Harper both had hard things that they were dealt in life, but together they work together to heal and find peace and strength in each other.

I loved that this book was all about having empathy for others, loving others and truly being family to one another. I loved that it just makes me want to reach out and spread love and hope with those around me. I don't think I ever have highlighted as many quotes as I did in this book. It just hit me hard that everyone is struggling daily, but we have the choice with how we react to our own struggles and those around us.

If you are looking for a book with depth, emotion, hard topics, great characters, swoony kisses, heartwarming moments and just great overall writing give this one a go!

I’m always excited to read a contemporary romance that isn’t trying to be trope-ish or trendy. This book has a message of love, healing, wholeness, and emotional health. I loved that. It’s rare to find such a passionate read in this genre. Every single person in the story is on their own journey towards healing. That reminds me of real life. The relationships in this story were deep, not superficial—bound together by hurts and heartbreaks.

I really enjoyed the brother/sister relationship in this story. The flashbacks added unique depth to the characters.

My one complaint was it got a little slow here and there (specifically the first 30% of the story), but it picked up and was overall a read that I would recommend.

Oh my friends, this was SUCH a beautiful story!

Before I get to my review, I need to mention that this book was a little past my comfy line as far as content so make sure to check the detailed content warnings below before you pick it up. If your line is a little farther than mine, then this recommendation is for you!

Harper has dealt with a painful and limiting chronic illness almost her entire life and decides she is going to spend her summer with her brother at his ranch for troubled teenage boys. When she arrives, she is surprised to see Everett, her brother's best friend who she hasn't seen in years.

Everett has been running from ghosts in his past but finds purpose in helping boys at the ranch. But seeing Harper again brings back a lot of childhood memories - some welcome and some not.

As Everett and Harper reconnect, they begin to help each other find healing and hope and before long, their feelings move past friendship into something more.

What to expect:
Brother's best friend
Dual POV
Friends to lovers
Chronic illness
Wounded hero
"It was always you" trope
Super sweet romance
Ranch for troubled teen boys
Great character growth
Dramatic situations
That first kiss!
Theme of healing
Childhood flashbacks

This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions! I cried several times because I was so touched by the beautiful and inspirational thoughts shared. (Don't miss the author's notes!)

I fell in love with the characters, was angry on their behalf over the things that they had been through. and cheered them through every step of their healing process: learning how to let go of heavy burdens, how to find hope, how to let others love and help you, and how to love and accept yourself. This truly was a beautiful story!

TW/CW: Domestic abuse/physical abuse, swearing: some *h* & *d*, lots of *a*, one *s*, makeout scenes with french kissing, two scenes where he grabs her rear end but nothing goes past that

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

This was a beautiful story of healing. The chronic illness rep. was so perfectly done. It breaks my heart that people have to deal with debilitating pain even from childhood.
I loved seeing Harper and Everett help each other to be brave and face their demons head on. Heavy topics but told in a sweet, romantic heartwarming story. Closed door romance.

Oh my goodness, what a book!

Though this book was quite different than the more lighthearted contemporary romances that I have been enjoying most recently, I was drawn in right from the very beginning and felt myself connecting with Harper's character. As someone who deals with chronic joint pain, I couldn't help but feel like I could have written so many of these words myself. Words such as this quote from the prologue:

"My body felt much older. The joints didn't bend right, the movements felt stiff, and if I was being honest, I sometimes felt more understood by my sixty-year-old adopted grandmother than anyone my age."

Oh yes, I felt that... deeply! The author did such a wonderful job of portraying that struggle with chronic pain in a way that could only be told by someone who had experienced it herself, and I so very much appreciated that aspect of the story especially as I was reading it during a high pain day. But it was also so much more than that. This story took on some really tough topics of trauma and abuse... with a beautiful message of healing and love. The romance was absolutely perfection. I loved how Harper and Everett were with one another. Both of these characters had their fair share of pain--- both physical and emotional--- and seeing how they looked out for one another!? Well, I absolutely adored them. The story flashed back to moments in their past that only helped to strengthen my love of their relationship. And the chemistry was absolutely flying off the pages! While this is certainly a romance story--- it also touches on all types of love: family, found family, friendships and love of self... pulling at all of my heartstrings. I truly didn't want to say goodbye to any of these characters at the end.

Carry Me Away is closed-door romance. It has some fairly descriptive make-outs that I would say put it at a Clean & Wholesome Level 3 but goes no further than that. There was also a fair amount of language throughout the story. While this is obviously not Christian fiction, there were a few moments that bring up faith in a beautiful, real way that I loved.

Truthfully, I cannot say enough about this book. It was emotional and at times difficult, but this is one that I know will stick with me for a very long time.

**I received an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.

I was honored to read an ARC and I absolutely loved Harper and Everett’s story.

This is a wonderful, slow burn, friends to lovers book that will absolutely hit you in the feels. Harper and Everett’s journey to finding each other through the trauma of life that they have both lived through written with such grace. You can’t help but cheer them on as they slowly circle each other, getting closer and closer.

Ashley has included a glorious cast of side characters that I just want to know more about… Jasper, in particular!

I just loved this story!

One of the easiest 5 stars I’ve ever given!!!

Things I adored:

🩺 The representation!!!! 🙌
🎙️ OwnVoices!!
💋 Steamy Kisses
💌 The letter to pain
🎼 Everett's song!!!
❤️The faith aspects!!!
☺️The boy’s home on the ranch
🚫Domestic abuse rep!!!
📖 Honestly everything! READ THIS BOOK!!!

"This ailment of yours, it’s just a small piece of who you are. It doesn’t define you. There is so much more to love than just this part. And I love this part because it’s made you who you are.”

"Believing in someone else was encouraging. It was kind. Believing in yourself, that was pure bravery. I wanted to spend the rest of my life being brave and the rest of my life sharing that bravery with others."

"The desire to be loved, the desire to have my own family one day—those desires might never go away. I would have dreams at night of being held so tightly by man with no face, who would love me unconditionally and lie with me on those bad days. It seemed like the most natural thing in the world. It would give me a glimmer of hope when I dared not to hope. Then I would wake up—tears streaming down my face, a hollowness inside me where the hope had been. For now, I would continue to hide away in my stories, where anything was possible. It was safe. It was comfortable. It was less excruciating."

This is by far one of the easiest 5 stars I’ve ever given!! And one of my favorite reads of the year!! And I’ve read and listened to a lot of books this year due to being in chronic pain. This book resonated with me on so many levels: spiritually, emotionally, and from a chronic illness perspective. I used to work as an Education Specialist for underprivileged high school students in rural areas, so the story line at the boy’s home was absolutely amazing. It was woven so well and I loved how their story arcs echoed Everett’s (our MMC).

This is just a gorgeous story. A love story between two beautiful souls, a love story of faith, and a love story about learning to accept your own body. I can’t say enough good things about this book!!!! And I’m so glad I own it. But I am now in need of a signed copy! Lol. And I will be going to find a way to purchase!!

If you know me, then you know that one of my pet peeves is not enough representation in books. I become disappointed with many books I read looking for rep because it’s hardly there. This book HAS IT ALL!!! And I loved every moment!!!! This was a disability and representation read from start to finish. One where I felt seen and honestly probably highlighted more than ever out of this book!!! Thank you to the author for being brave enough to deliver this content. For sharing a part of her heart, soul, and story!! ❤️❤️❤️

READ THIS BOOK!!!

CW: This is a sweet romance. Steamy kisses and a few curse words. Depictions of chronic pain and discussions of domestic abuse.

"But I think you’ve spent too much time giving yourself mental limitations because of what you’ve been told your entire life. Sometimes it takes someone believing in us first before we can see it and believe it in ourselves.”

“I realized that nothing was going to change my situation. There wasn’t a miracle that would heal me or change my circumstances. I had to shift my perspective.”

"But somehow, when you put them together, one couldn’t be without the other. They needed each other. Seeing light couldn’t be without the darkness first. It was a balance. That was how I saw life. True joy couldn’t be appreciated without excruciating pain. Or complete, overwhelming love without heartbreak. The negative was necessary to have the positive shine brightly. That was what I had to believe. I had to believe that—knowing this pain all my life would lead to insurmountable joy."

This story falls in the genre of Contemporary Romance but in reality it is about so much more. I really appreciated the unique perspective of a MC who suffers from a Chronic Illness. Not having first hand knowledge of that myself, the daily battle of overcoming the physical, mental, and emotional limitations that accompany chronic pain was very enlightening. I always love reading a book that shines a light on something new to me and gives me understanding and empathy.

Harper Mason decides its time to have a little space from her protective parents and safe environment, so she goes to spend the summer at Marlow Boys Ranch, a correctional safe haven for troubled boys where her loving older brother Jasper works in Mountain Creek, CO. When she gets there and see’s Everett, her brothers childhood best friend who disappeared suddenly after high school with no goodbyes and has been MIA for 7 years since, all sorts of old and new feelings come to the surface and are begging to be let out. Can everyone work through their different “hards” and find a way to move forward?

This story does such a great job of showing us that Hard is Hard, and everyones Hard looks different. Working though anger is hard, dealing with abuse is hard, battling chronic pain is hard, believing in yourself and finding self worth is hard, but being there for one another and showing love and compassion can be easy.

This book IS a romance but it also takes a look at difficult topics including domestic abuse, child neglect, chronic pain, & self harm. I loved seeing the journey of healing and resolution that the characters go through.

Despite the slightly heavy content, it has an almost juvenile/YA feel to it both in the characters interactions, and in the way it’s written.
I had a few small issues with realistic behaviors, some points feeling repetitive, and the writing feeling novice.
Overall though, I thought this was a great debut novel and I would definitely read the next book that Ashley Weston comes out with.

Thank you so much Ashley for sharing your story with me!

This book has been on my TBR for a while and wow I was blown away from the first chapter. I absolutely adored everything about Harper and Everett’s relationship. They were childhood friends who supported each other through tremendously difficult situations (chronic pain/illness and abusive father). They brought so much compassion and understanding to the boys at Marlow’s ranch. Harper and Everett also saw each other in a way that no one else did.

I did not see that plot twist coming and it showcased how much both Harper and Everett had grown and how much they loved each other.

Favorite parts
-Harper’s brother Jasper- he was an endearing character and I’m looking forward to his story.
-when they went swimming
-Everett playing the guitar
-their dance

Favorite Quotes
Sitting here next to this man, I sat a little taller. He was everything I wasn’t. Everything I had been told to stay away from. It was like his soul called to me, and somehow, for a moment, I knew he wasn’t looking down on me. He was seeing me as an equal. With this powerful, strong, ridiculously handsome man, I raised my chin a bit higher.

I’d always seen her as the ridiculously irresistible person she was. But now, I truly saw her. The girl I adored had grown into a woman I now loved.

“Seeing you in full flare-ups and in huge amounts of pain doesn’t change a single thing about how I see you.”
“And how do you see me?” Vulnerability hung in her voice.
I promised myself right then that I would never break her trust.
“As absolute perfection.”

A Beautiful Read!! Enjoyed from start to finish!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and it was my first time reading a book by Ashley. I was hooked from start to finish because the writing is fantastic and the storytelling just flows easily. The story is unique compared to so many books out there because it deals with chronic illness and what it does to someone so young, mentally, physically and emotionally. But that’s just part of the story. It’s not only about the main character but about so many who are just trying to get through life in one piece and doing it together in a way that makes you inspired to grow and love as well. I can’t wait for y’all to read it. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to read this book because now I have another author I’m going to continue to support and be excited for whenever she releases a new book.

It was not only a beautiful read but I feel like I truly learned something about what it means to be a human in progress.

Carry Me Away by Ashley Weston

The only physical read I’ve been able to complete all summer long. Getting a moment to sit down with five busy bodies to take care of is no easy task. But I did it. I snuck in ten minutes here and there, often reading while brushing my teeth or waiting for water to boil. 😆

It was all worth it. This novel is filled with life lessons. The kind of lessons that make you stop and consider.

It’s a love letter to anyone who has ever suffered from chronic illness. This is the story you’d want to imagine for yourself. A loving family that is there for you throughout all your trials and pain. A romance to sweep you off your feet. And a place to belong that feels right where you’re meant to be.

Stars: 4.5 rounding up

What I enjoyed about this sweet cowboy story of redemption, healing, and forgiveness:
I loved the messages of self-worth and coming to love oneself. This is oftentimes the hardest thing to do. But how can we truly love those around us, if we don't first have respect and love for our own self? Ashley beautifully illustrates this principle in Carry Me Away.
I also really enjoyed the forgiveness and redemption aspect between father and son. Forgiving someone who so deeply has hurt you is one of the hardest things you can do, and I loved that Ashley included that.
There are also light Christian elements of prayer.
I enjoyed the setting of a ranch for troubled teen boys quite a lot. It definitely made this an even more soul-wrenching book.
This was not a light read, but it is beautiful and I do recommend it.
The romance was sweet and a bit forbidden due to brother's best friend.
Overall I solidly enjoyed this one. And will be reading more of Ashley's books.

A few things I found lacking and thus the 4.5 stars:
It was a bit slow in some parts. I found the dialogue needing something to make it better.
I wish there was a bit more emotion in the dialogue. There was definitely some, but not enough to bring me to tears, and normally stories like this bring me to tears. I also didn't care for the amount of swearing.

I was able to overlook these aspects due to it being a story that is very close to the author's heart. She wrote herself into the story and I could definitely feel her past frustration, but also her beautiful soul and patience as she learned to fully love herself and cope with her chronic illness. I definitely grew in empathy from listening to this one.

Content Warnings:
Language: Moderate-used multiple times: h*ll, d*mn, a**, used infrequently: sh-t
Sexual Content: Closed-door-Very passionate kissing with tongue, nipping bottom lip, earlobe, kissing and touching (mostly appropriate; he does touch her buttocks), attempted assault/touching buttocks
Violence/gore: Moderate-Self-harm (cutting), abuse with facial wounds (past somewhat described)
Substance Use: Mild-drinking, maybe smoking (I don't remember)
Prejudices: bullying of someone with chronic illness
Religious Content: Christian elements-prayer, forgiveness, redemption, self-worth/love, God's path and interference
Other: attempted s*icide (mentioned), spousal and child abuse (talked about frequently), self-harm

🏔️BOOK REVIEW🏔️ Carry Me Away by Ashley Weston

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was entirely out of my comfort zone. I don’t read a lot of contemporary romance; though I have gotten more into contemporary romcoms this year, that’s the extent I had been willing to go to. But when I saw a friend on IG recommend this book, and absolutely gush about it, along with being mesmerized by the beautiful cover and the cover of the second book, I decided to give it a shot. And I am so glad I did! 🫶🏻

I loved Harper and seeing everything she went through and struggled with. I loved that she was an avid reader! Even though I don’t have a chronic illness, I felt like I related to her in some things, which I love being able to myself in book characters, even if it’s just in a small part of their character. I loved how kind and positive she was even in the midst of her own pain, and seeing her work through realizing that her illness did not define her. 🥹

Everett was great too! I was dead from the very chapter of his pov! ☠️🫶🏻 I love a he falls first situation, and this woman was down bad, crying at the gym and everything!😭😭🥹🫶🏻
I also liked seeing him work through his trauma and issues and seeing that he too, was more than just a product of his circumstances. The only thing I didn’t like about him? The long hair. 😬🫣 that’s just…not my thing. 😅

This book is so much more than a romance, and I don’t even know how to convey all my thoughts and feelings. I really enjoyed reading it, and stepping outside my comfort zone. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series, and probably anything Ashley writes!😁😊

Content warnings: mild language; uses of the h, d, a, s, and b words. Along with the abbreviations “af” and “wtf” once each.
A few heavy make out scenes that were a little much for my taste, which is mostly why I gave it four stars instead of five. I don’t think it ever went further than that…there were a couple instances where I was like…is that a fade to black situation? They weren’t clear enough for me to say if they were or weren’t.
Trigger warnings: these are listed at the front of the book:
Chronic illness, trauma, talk of suicide, self harm, and abuse.

Carry Me Away by Ashley Weston was like wrapping myself in a cozy blanket and settling in for a heartfelt story. Harper Mason is the kind of character who’s easy to root for—an introverted bookworm with a big heart and a lot of self-doubt, dealing with a chronic illness that really shapes her life. I loved watching her step out of her comfort zone and agree to spend the summer with her brother at a boys' ranch, where life is anything but predictable.

And then, there’s Everett, her brother’s best friend and a total mystery man. He’s the ranch’s music teacher with this guarded, broody charm that only gets better as we find out more about him. I loved the way Weston handled the brother’s best friend trope—it felt natural, with a slow-burn connection between Harper and Everett that was so satisfying. The best part? Weston didn’t need any “extra spice” to create swoon-worthy moments; just the simple, heartfelt exchanges between them were enough.

The chronic illness representation here was also a highlight. I went in knowing almost nothing about Ankylosing Spondylitis, and it was eye-opening to see Harper manage her life with this condition. It didn’t define her, but it made her so much more relatable and real. Major points to the author for bringing light to a condition that’s often overlooked in romance.

That said, there were a couple of things that kept this from being a full five-star read for me. The pacing dragged a bit at times. I found myself really wanting to know more about Harper and Everett as adults, with all the baggage they’ve picked up along the way, but sometimes the story felt more focused on their past. And while the ending tied everything up in a nice little bow, I’ll admit, it was maybe a bit too perfect for my taste. Life is messy, and I would’ve loved a bit more of that.

All in all, Carry Me Away is a warm, thoughtful romance with some genuinely touching moments and depth. If you love closed-door, small-town romances with real-life struggles, this is worth a read. It’s the kind of book that’s great for a cozy afternoon when you’re in the mood for something sweet, a little serious, and big on heart.

📱 Weston’s sophomore novel was full of such goodness and hope amongst trauma and pain. This story contains major chronic illness rep via the FMC. As someone with chronic illness, I found many of her character’s struggles valid and relatable. Weston does a wonderful job presenting both the physical and mental struggles someone with a chronic illness manages on a daily basis. Both the FMC and MC have wounds—mental and physical—yet both have chosen to withhold them, refusing to burden someone else. They have to learn to open up and share their hurts with each other before they can begin to heal.

The story is set within a beautiful scenic backdrop of the Colorado mountains and Weston does a wonderful job with her descriptive narrative of their surroundings, immersing you into their location on a boy’s ranch. Both the environment and music play pivotal roles in the FMC’s healing and I loved how the author wove the two within the story.

Now, as for my favorite, the romance. 😏 Brother’s best friend, rekindled romance, grumpy-sunshine, friends to more. What’s not to love? The two share not only a past, but fears and hurts they learn to work through within the novel. Once the two eliminate some of their boundaries, their love for each other is sweet and passionate, finally acting on some long-suppressed feelings.

This is not your light and fluffy romance. This is one full of depth and emotions, the power of relationships, and inner strength. There is so much goodness and wisdom in this book, I highlighted numerous sections. You’ll definitely walk away from this novel with some new insight, hope, and encouragement.

💕 kisses only (some steamy ones 😏)
🙉 Occasional mild language

Content warnings: domestic violence, alcoholism, chronic illness, talks of suicide

*** Thank you to the author for the advanced reader copy. All thoughts are my own.

Ashley Weston is a new to me author and I owe credit to a book exchange for me finding this incredibly moving read!  When you decide on a book basket mostly because it had a Dr. Pepper bottle in it, well it was worth the risk!

Harper is a woman who has been dealt a tough hand of chronic illness most of her life!  She has learned how to manage her pain and channel happiness!  It’s a choice after all!  On summer vacation from her job as an elementary school teacher, Harper heads to visit her brother in Colorado!  She has no idea what’s in store for her and perhaps that’s what makes this story even better!

Everett is a man who has been jaded by life kicking him around most of his younger years and even early adulthood!  He has come to work at Marlow’s Boys Ranch thanks to his childhood bestie, Jasper, being the brain behind it!  He utilizes his talent for playing guitar and how it can be used as an asset to allow the boys to open up!  What he wasn’t planning on was Jasper’s sister coming to stay for the summer and that she alone had the ability to poke holes into the high walls he had built around himself!

This book has more emotion than what I normally read but I’m so grateful for it!   It helps us remember that everyone has struggles in some way and with love and support we can try to work through it!  I ugly cried, happy cried, swooned and even got frustrated but I wouldn’t trade this book for anything!  So much love for this book and its author!  *Also, if you like the idea of being serenaded by the guitar, this book gives it to you on a silver platter!

Oh my gosh, guysss!!!!! I rarely leave reviews, but I just had to leave my thoughts about this book. I think this book is not given enough credit. I was in a reading slump and had recently downloaded a lot of ebooks, and one of the books was Carry Me Away. To say I devoured it in one day is insane but I did, and everyone around me called me crazy. I think I now need to catch up on extra work, but I guess this book was worth it.

This book deals with a lot of difficult topics like Chronic Illness, Trauma, Suicide, Self-Harm and Abuse. I smiled, cried, laughed, and felt all the pain along with each character. It was as if I was there with them in Marlow Boy's Ranch in Colorado. It was such a refreshing read. It had enough romance, but if you go into the book expecting open door romance, then this isn't it, but it will still make you blush and feel giddy with the sweet romance between Harper and Everett. The sweetest brother ever is Jasper, like come on, he is just too sweet. How come he isn't like other siblings and gets mad that his best friend is in love with his sister. Don't let me start with Michael, Landon and Clarence, these three broke my heart and fixed them right back up again. They were the sweetest trio and I love them so much.

All in all, this book is going to be one of my most recommended books ever. I just want to hold it close to my heart and hug each one of them and tell them they aren't alone. Thank you, Ashley, for this story, and I can't wait to read your other books.

I listened to the audio version--that option was not available when I tried to change editions. So this review is based on the audiobook.

The narration was fantastic. Ann Fritz's voice was engaging and full of life--perfect intonation and inflection that drew me right in. She rose to the challenge of having to voice different characters: the two main characters of Harper and Everett, as well as a large cast of supporting characters. She made each voice distinct without making them sound weird (i.e. Everett's voice was not a fake man's voice, but it still was distinct). The pacing was fantastic--clear and clean, but it never felt slow. I would listen to many more books narrated by Fritz! I listen to a lot of audiobooks and the narrator can make or break the story.

As for the story itself, I enjoyed it. Romance is not my usual genre but I like to challenge myself to try new things. Harper faces a chronic illness, so I think that will appeal to many readers. Her illness makes up a big part of the backstory, as well as plays a big role in the main story arc. The romance between Harper and Everett was chaste and sweet, so if you're looking for PG this is it. As an editor and writing teacher, the cliches were getting to me but that is a personal opinion :) Overall if a clean, contemporary romance is what you like, especially one with more diverse representation, this book is for you.

What a beautiful insight into how pain can break you, build you and shape you. Agonizingly beautiful, insightful and poetic!

This is a beautiful story about love, abuse, chronic illness and all the stickiness in between. Harper has given up on love and just wants a summer with her brother. But when she shows up and finds her brother’s best friend, Everett, now working there she’s caught in a tailspin. The boy who once was a friend is now a man who can barely look at her. Can they ignore each other all summer?

I was very drawn to Harper’s story of pain and illness. This topic has a special place in my heart. My mother has suffered from debilitating chronic pain all her life. As someone who has watched from the sidelines, I always appreciate the insight into someone’s life and what the day to day really looks like. It’s hard to imagine what other people sometimes have to endure in this life.

The boys on the ranch give other glimpses into abuse and neglect. And my heart just ached for them. It was very well done. And the characters really added to the story.

Okay not going to lie, as the book was wrapping up I was feeling on the verge of being bored but then that plot twist hit and … dang. I wasn’t expecting that. I honestly wasn’t looking for or expecting a plot twist at all. That just elevated the ending for me so much and was exactly what it needed. I loved it.

Carry Me Away is a contemporary romance between two people who both have dealt with physical and emotional pain. Harper Mason was diagnosed with a chronic condition at a young age which causes painful flares daily. Years later, she finds herself escaping to the Marlow's Boys Ranch in the Colorado mountains where her brother hosts young boys needing escape from their own trauma.

Everett and Harper have both had their fair share of physical and emotional trauma. The flashbacks to them in their childhood are so sweet and adorable. This is a brother's best friend trope for the win!

I really enjoyed the medical rep in this story. I don't know much about what Harper goes through, but I really liked seeing her vulnerability and strength throughout.

I loved the Colorado country vibes. The mountain setting is my absolute favorite. I would love to live this kind of life!

Harper's brother Jasper is one of my favorite characters! I think his book is next! So excited!

Brief thoughts:
I felt this was quite lengthy for a contemporary romance with a lot of repetitive feelings and inner monologue. But overall an enjoyable read.

Harper and Everett were the perfect friends to sort of strangers to lovers ❤️ I identified so much with Harper. I was diagnosed with arthritis in my spine, an L1L2 fusion, and degenerative disc disease in my 20s that had caused a whole host of issues with the rest of my body. My issues aren’t as severe as Harper’s, thankfully, but I also struggle with feeling like a burden to those around me, and trying to not let it define me. I loved seeing Harper overcome her self imposed limitations.

Harper and Everette both showed tremendous character growth throughout the book and worked really hard to be ready for a relationship.

I loved the family that Jasper created on the ranch, not just for the boys, but for the adults as well. Everyone there was dealing with their own sorts of traumas and the ranch was the perfect place to help them heal. I’m really hoping that Jasper gets his own book because that man deserves love and I want to see it happen!

**This is a closed door book with kissing/making out.

This was a really cute feel good romance. I flew through this one and loved it! Harper, the FMC, has a rare autoimmune arthritis disease (the author actually has it too!), that makes life difficult. She, while understandably so, let's it define and control her life. But one summer changes everything!
Everett, is the absolute sweetest. He is a gruff music teacher at a boys ranch in Colorado. And the way he is with the kids makes me swoon!
I loved the setting. One of my life's dreams was to either open or work at a place like that, a safe haven for kids where they learn real life lessons and therapy and actually have someone who loves them. All. The. Feelings!
I really enjoyed Harper. She is a fighter. She is definitely someone I would want to be like!
There is also a bit of a surprise in this story that I found really interesting!

I'm hoping Jasper gets his story! I can't wait for more from this author!

A lovely story. It really was. At points it moved a little slowly for me, and I noticed some editing issues, typos, etc.. I wish we could have got a little bit more of our characters’ adult stories - as I feel they played just as much of a role in their current situations as their respective childhoods did. The revelation at the end (while surprising to me) was a tad too neat and tidy for my taste.

The chronic illness representation seemed to be done really well. I didn’t know anything about AS previously but this story really brought awareness to a devastating condition that seems widely misunderstood- as many chronic illnesses are.

Harper and Everett’s love and connection was beautiful. I appreciate the author’s ability to create romance and swoon-worthy moments without the spice.

A sweet love story, that touches on some really heavy subjects, while bringing lightness to some dark situations.
