3.0 stars... maybe 3.25?

I was very excited to read this book, but sadly I was let down.
Maybe it was because of my high expectations?
Maybe it was because I read a 7 star (in my heart, on paper it was only 5 stars) book right before reading this one?

Or maybe it was just that this book simply wasn't all that great.

The character's voices changed depending on what the author needed them to do, and I'm not saying that characters can't change, it's just that they kept on switching. Once they sounded like some rich British folks form the 1800 and at other times they sounded like themselves.
This just bothered me to no end.

I didn't really feel much of an emotional connection with either of the MCs.

The book was funny at times though, I'll give it that.
'"Do you like them [his tattoos] now?"
"They're just okay." I half smiled at him.
"You're just okay."'

And the characters did have chemistry between eachother.
The plot wasn't all that... plot-y :D

Anyway, it wasn't terrible but I was expecting much more from this book.

This is probably one of my favorite books so far by JS Cooper! Hudson and Riley grew up together. Hudson was the older brother of Riley's best friend. When he was young, he picked on her,but then became her protector. As they grew up, Riley and Hudson began to have feelings for each other. Hudson was Riley's first kiss and it was one neither could forget. Hudson went to college and met Clara. Even when he was with Clara, Riley was who was on his mind. One night changed everything as a tragedy happened and both blame themselves. Hudson thinks he's no good and stays out of Riley's life. After 4 years, they cross paths again and the love they have for the other is still there. Will Hudson continue to push Riley away or can Riley convince him that he's good enough? You must read this book to find out! 5+ stars!!

Am I the only one that was cringing while reading this?? No chemistry, at all!! Conversations seemed boring, repetitive, and childish. Its the first book that I have read from this author and clearly, I did not like it... At all. Loved the potential that the storyline had but in my opinion the author just wasn't able to pull it off.

I would like to know what era this book is supposed to be in??!!
Because this book is all over the place...
The way the main characters talked & acted... Was weird...

-A fifteen year old who doesn't know what a French kiss is!!
-& an eighteen year old that thinks boys are still gross!!
-A 20 something who doesn't know what ridding or doggie style is??!!
- or any kind of sex joke or innuendo's

Omg!!!
I kept telling myself... This is ridiculous! Its so unbelievable!!!

Riley is just so innocent??!! Is truly unbelievable. I mean... If she reads romance books.. She knows what's up... But she acts like she truly doesn't know what the hell is going on around her!! & she allows Hudson to treat her like crap & talk down to her...

& Hudson...
He is so damn wishy washy with his feelings with Riley... It was getting on my damn nerves.

The ending was just to damn fast. Everything was all wrapped up with a nice little bow...

I just wish this book would have been different....

There is so much wrong with this book that I don't think I can even coherently convey just how mfing bad it is without having frequent intermissions to my therapist office, but I'll give it go.

Why Would You Possibly Do That?

description

WTF would you tell me that a chick reads two trashy romance novels a week, create a 7 minutes in heaven scene for her, PUT HER IN THIS MFING CENTURY vs circa Nathaniel Hawthorn, and still...

description

....you expect me to believe that a nun has more sexual knowledge than this chick?!?

I'm being completely 100% honest here. No exaggeration, hyperbole, or sarcasm needed!

description

I honest to Gawd expected the 18-year-old chick to say, 'penis!!!... Omg what's a penis? What does it do? Wowzers!!!' For f's sake she (18yrs old) thought she shouldn't be wet for sex, didn't know it would hurt first time, thought she was pissing herself vs finding pleasure, etc. ¥Come on¥ To make it all worse, he is step by step explaining this shit to her like an OBGYN would, and when I say explain, I mean he is saying you're supposed to be wet and Im sticking my finger in you so that I can see how tight and wet you are and know when you're ready so that it won't hurt.

Early twenties and she doesn't get that some creep asking her what she likes to do for a date....Doggie style, perhaps... Is sexual innuendo? Have mercy on your readers! Seriously!! But, then to have her have sex in a sleeping bag with all the other guys right there and even keep going at it as one comes over and tries to casually shoot the breeze with the male MC, really? Do you really expect me to be buying this shit?

Virgins, Virgins Everywhere: I'm A Sinner

description

Listen, I value morals. I abhor cheating. But, virgin hordes of this magnitude don't exist outside maybe the LDS or Mennonite communities. He's a virgin till college. She's a virgin till 18. His sister is a virgin for who knows how long . They feel a twinge of guilt at screwing when he still technically has a girlfriend, but go at it full force anyway. I'm sorry but cheating and the prudish Pollyanna virgin club morality traits just aren't really consistent, congruent in the same storyline.

But then neither is harboring guilt on the level that you'd think he is a mass murderer that skins cats alive for fun just because he screws the girl he loves before officially breaking up with a lush that CHOOSES to drive drunk and kill herself.

When they finally screw again four years later in the infamous sleeping bag, of course, disaster strikes again and someone he knows is hurt as he's screwing her. It must be a sign from above that he is evil and his relationship with her is evil *eyeroll*. That is until she's near him again & then she's just too fing good for him to leave alone despite him going to hell and all.

"Guys stop!" Justin stood above us, and I could see the panic in his eyes. "Please stop! Come on, Channing. Leave Batman alone." "He started it," Channing grunted while attempting to hit me in the face.

^ Does that sound like a 24-year-old or a 12-year-old? Does this sound like a fight off the kindergarten yard or an UNDERGROUND fight scene? "Leave Batman alone." I think I might've done some permanent damage to my eyeballs%~%~%~%

Serious Question... Did A 12-Year-Old Boy Write This Dialogue?

"I love the feel of your smooth legs against my hairy ones."

"You could have smooth legs too."

"Are you telling me to shave them?"

"I'd never say that."

"That's what makes you a man."

"My chest hair makes me a man?"

"Not just your chest hair."

"Oh good, I was about to say. I thought it was my dick that made me a man."

No comment~! What's there really to say to shit like that?!?

Trying Too Hard At Taboo

She's he's sisters BFF. There is TWO years difference in age here. Yet, a lot of the thoughts and actions here are to somehow make these two people liking each other taboo, off limits, and dirty. He makes himself seem like a pervert for liking a girl TWO years younger? Wtf? Fake dramatics that's trying too hard at Taboo. Taboo this is not!

Plot

After chapter upon chapter {YEARS} of these two whining about each other, they get it on. Something bad happens to his girlfriend, Clara, that makes him go AWOL after taking Riley's virginity. It's here that whatever shred I was holding out for to save this disaster shrivels up, dies, and is thrown in the gutter.

Four years this dude doesn't speak to Riley because 'something bad' happens to his girlfriend because he did something 'evil' {as in had sex} with his sister's 18-year-old BFF that HE LOVES. All of a sudden we go from he is breaking up with Clara the bitch with a drinking problem TO four years of everything the guy does is in Clara's name, for Clara, because he owes Clara, because he's a sinner.

Again, this is ridiculous sanctimonious bullshit.

Annnnnnnd...

Unbelievable hits just keep coming...

WTF kind of underground fight just says, 'hey, reporter chick!!!! So glad to have you here to do an article on our ILLEGAL, UNDERGROUND fight and fighters?!?!?? Yippie!!!

WTF kinda underground fight scene sends the fighters off on a "bonding camping trip" to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in sleeping bags before they fight each other for a chance to win a *cough* million dollar prize. Let me think....

description

Yeah, the answer is *ding ding* NONE!

Hudson is about to fight in an UNDERGROUND fighting match for 1 mil, and this dodo female MC asks:

"He (the other fighter) wouldn't hurt Hudson though, would he?"

"But all you guys are so nice."

description

Having it explained to her that this is a no rules UNDERGROUND fight for a mil didn't quite sink in because the next chapter over we have to go through it all again,..

"You really think he's going to fight dirty, don't you?" "I don't know." Justin's face was grim. "I really don't know." "He's going to try and hurt him, isn't he? I know you said that earlier, but I thought it was just conjecture. But you weren't just saying that, we're you? You think he's really going to try and hurt him."

Nah, they're really there to play chess... No shit, the dude is going to try to hurt him in a fight... A fight with a mil at stake.

Who Let The Cheese Out Of The Can?

The only thing I can say good about the first 80% of this book is that at least it isn't cheesy. These people are too busy berating themselves and wondering who hates who for cheese. But, then at around 80%, the cheese explodes:

"...flying through the air on the wings of a dove."

"Shh, my darling."

"You're my candle and I'm your moth."

"You're my heart, and I'm yours to do with what you want."

"Oh, how I love you, Riley."

"I want to freeze time. I want us to remain in this moment, only knowing what we know now. I want this to be it. I could live the rest of my life just staring at the love in your eyes."

"Yes, dear."

"You are my everlasting love."

Answer me this? Do you know any 22-24 year olds that call each other dear and darling in a non joking way? No? Me either!

Finally! Maybe? No?!? Really? Come The Hell On! End This Shit Already!!!

Fight happens. Hudson loses. He thinks he's dead with Angels, pearly gates, the whole nine yards.

description

So, readers finally get to hear Hudson's logic on why he is such 'a bad, bad, sinful, man.'

Again, you've thought all this time this guy had to be a serial killer the way he carried on. Nope. All his hell fire and damnation guilt is because he saw Riley delete his girlfriend's drunken texts and thought it was cute that she was jealous. So, Clara, the girlfriend, drove her own ass home because he ignored Riley deleting a text. And, that's the big hoopla how he killed her she killed her own damn self. Uhmnnn:/

But, as he thinks he is dying he suddenly has an epiphany....,

description

I want to live so that I can forgive myself!

description

Wait... Wait... Wait...

What's surviving if it can't be completely guilt free, right?

Enter Hudson's best friend....

description

"I'm the reason she's dead, Riley." "She wasn't driving home from the bar when she crashed. She was driving to meet me."

Bam... Goodbye guilt Riley and Hudson. And, they're even such goodie gum drops as to...

"Luke, this isn't your fault."

Well, no shit!

Bottom Line

If you've read this and still wonder what my final thoughts are, well, then this book might actually be a good fit for you. Otherwise, ...

Okay that was short?
I didn't connect with the characters at all. Seriously, i felt nothing.

Am i cold hearted bitch if the heartbreaking scenes weren't heartbreaking? Nothing about this made me feeeeeel. I had a straight face throughout the whole book.
Alright maybe the tiniest bit ever at the end but only because Luke was crying(the bestfriend of the hero), not much though, just a 'awh' or two.

Truly found the book cringy, the fact Hudson showed her how to kiss at a young age should of been written in a way that didn't look urm perverted? The writing portrayed her to be this innocence little girl around the age 12 and him 18. It just freaked me out for some reason, didn't like it which made no sense because the whole romance shit is about a girl liking a boy who she knew since she was a kid, her bestfriend's brother! I love that shit, so cute.

The proposal at the ending.. Really? Why? I can't, please. Don't.

Other than that, it had potential, i was actually looking forward to this book so the fact it didn't reach my expectations is disappointing.

I absolutely loved this book!!

Hudson and Riley first meet when Riley is 6 years old, Hudson is mean to her and pinches her until her mother take her to his house and asks him to protect her instead...Hudson does just that, but as they get older their feelings change and one night changes everything.

They see each other again after 4 years but so much has happened, the feelings are still there but is that enough?

I think I have a new favorite from JS Cooper!! This is a must read in my opinion!!

J. S. Cooper has done it again. Her latest release Everlasting Sin is another hit that is destined to be another bestseller. I am astonished at her writing talent. Her books captivate the reader. The characters are larger than life and their personalities jump off the pages. The stories are very realistic, compassionate, steamy, and romantic. Her writing style is smooth and keeps the readers attention. I am amazed how J. S. Cooper keeps coming up with books that capture the heart. Everlasting Sin held me prisoner until the very last word. Thank you J. S. Cooper for delivering another magical book!

Everlasting Sin is a story of love that starts from childhood. It is a lifetime journey of two people destined to be together. Their hearts belong to one another. But life has a way of making it’s own schedule and is constantly throwing curveballs in the path of their dreams. Just when this young couple finally acts upon their feelings a horrific event will break them down and pull them apart. The two will muddle through the next four years with broken hearts and broken dreams. The will never be able to overcome their Everlasting Sin. They say matters of the heart will heal all wounds. Will this couple overcome their past and finally find Everlasting Love. Read this book. It is guaranteed to make you tingle.

I can honestly say that J.S. Cooper is one of my favorite writers. She captures the very essence of humanity and their need for love. Her books have the right amount of angst and the right amount of passion. She has perfected the romantic formula readers crave. Every book is ended with a satisfied feeling and smile on your face!

Gotta love JS Cooper! She never disappoints!
Everlasting Sin is a story about Hudson and Riley, who grow up as friends, since elementary school, and actually find true love in the end. I loved this story because it focuses more on the lives and relationship between the main characters and not just the physical aspects. Circumstances and a tragedy cause them to be apart for four years and when they reunite, it is sinfully sexy and hot! There are heartbreaking moments that clench your heart tight but in the end, the characters find their everlasting love for each other.
This is a standalone book but definitely left me wanting more of Hudson and Riley. Would love to read about the secondary characters Eden, Luke and even Justin! Hope to read about all of them in the future.

Ok, so I don't know how to exactly feel about this one. Things were happening and I went along with it, though in the end I was like, huh? Before I get to what was bothering me I think you guys need to learn a bit about the plotline and the characters.

This book is about a girl who meets a boy on the school bus. The boy used to pinch the girl everytime she got on the bus. One day that girl got enough and told her mother about it. The mother went to the boys house to talk to him and his parents. From that day the boy made a promise to the girls mother to never pinch the girl again and to protect her instead. Riley and Hudson have known each other since that day.

"Now you're my bodyguard."
"You know it." I gave her an awkward hug back.
"I'm your personal Batman."
"Uh huh." She smiled up at me.

Riley became best friends with Eden who is Hudsons little sister, which means they all grew up together. As Riley gets older she develops a crush on Hudson and wants to know if maybe Hudson feels the same way about her.

"I'm the only girl who hasn't been kissed." I blushed.
"So that just makes you even more special."

She get the feeling that Hudson sees her more than a little sister. So she pushes a bit more. This scene is so adorable.

I sprang free back then and gasped. "What are you doing?" I questioned him with wide eyes.
"Teaching you how to kiss."
"But you used your tongue."
"It's called a French kiss, Riley."
"But we're not in France," I mumbled, feeling stupid. I knew my face was burning a deep shade of red, and I could see that he was laughing at me from the sparkle in his eyes.

When they are all grown up Hudson moves to go to college and Riley is in High School. During his time away, Hudson starts seeing a girl, Clara. Every summer, Eden and her parents would go to their beach house in Florida for two weeks and Riley would join them. One time, four years earlier (the book goes back and forth between the past and the present), they all get together at the beach house and things start to happen. This time, Hudson got his girlfriend Clara with him. Riley is starting to feel like she is losing Hudson and doesn't know what to do.

"I'd hated her on sight. How could I not? How could you not hate the woman who was with the boy you'd always wanted? But I'd tried to hide my hate. And I'd tried to stay away from him. Until that last night."

That night changed everything for Riley and Hudson. It was a turning point in their lives and their relationship. How does something beautiful turn into something so horrible? And how do they leave the guilt behind and move forward?

As I mentioned in the beginning; I have no idea what to feel about this one. It's not like it was an awful book because I read it until the last word. I wanted to know what exactly happend that night four years ago that left a mark in their lives. So it definitly was a page turner. However around the 50% mark I lost a bit of my interest. The dialogues between Riley and Hudson were too cheesy and everything they said had no meaning. The first part wasn't as bad because they were kids and not 100% open about what they felt for each other. When they got older I was hoping to feel the love that grew all those years. Instead they were on then off then on then off. God, Hudson was so damn confusing at the end.

Luckily we got our ending and I got my answers about what happend. Even if it was more like, are you kidding me? It didn't feel like a huge revelation and I was a bit disappointed. The book wasn't long and that could be one of the reasons there weren't room for more. Anyhow I decided that since I appreciated the first half of the book, the book would get 2,5 stars.

Let me just tell you, I fell in love with this book from the synopsis. I have loved the cover for months! But none of that compares to the love I have for the characters in this book.
I fell in love with Riley and Hudson from the beginning. After Hudson became her “batman” There was no turning back. He vowed to protect her, but he had no idea that he would be the one she needed protection from. He would be the one and the only one to hold her heart, and the only one to make it shatter.
The time wasn’t right when they were finally realizing the intense connection that they both couldn't deny any longer. The longer you deny what your soul truly needs the harder you crash into it. However, when the best time in their life, turned into the worst and changed the course they thought they were going on.
I felt every emotion these characters had. The desperation of being completely in love with each other and not being able to do anything about it. The joy and love once they realized the other felt the same. The devastation as they lost each other among so much more with no hope of ever being able to have each other again. The guilt each felt for something that ruined them for each other and something that was completely out of their control. The happiness of finding each other again after so long and knowing that they are all each other has and will want. Then the gut wrenching sadness when again it is ripped from them… SO many emotions ran through me but I wouldn’t change a minute of this book. It was such a beautifully written story of how Sin can consume you in the best and worst possible ways!

3.5 Disappointing Stars

I'm actually really disappointed...I was looking forward to this book since I found out the release date and I finished reading it just 5 minuted ago and I'm sorry but I just wasn't feeling it.

The storyline was interesting but the writing was really horrible...there was no chemistry, no passion, and no feeling between the characters and what they were saying. I don't know....maybe it was just me but I did not like this book and that makes me completely sad because I was so excited when this book came out and I thought it would be wonderful especially with the rating on this book being so high.

Overall I liked the characters, I liked the storyline and maybe in the near future I'll re-read Everlasting Sin and who knows, maybe I'll like it but for now, I'm sorry, this book isn't working more than 3.5 stars

Even though it was short I really like this book. I like the story and I loved the characters. I know I've read some reviews that say it was bad and that the characters had no connection, etc. I however didnt feel this way. I mean how can you think they had no connection? They have been in each others lives since they were children. He was her protector, her friend and later on her lover. The story itself was great also. So differnt. You want them to be together and hope that it happens but at the same time he fights it. Guilt keeps Hudson away. He feels guilty because he thinks his love for her basically killed another. Riley tries to help him work through this and in turn he helps her with her guilt about that horrible/terrific night 4 years ago.
Their love was one that I really enjoyed reading about and I cant wait to read Eden and Lukes story:)

I had such high hopes for this book. I was sadly disappointed. I love a story line with the girl falling in love with the best friend's older brother. I could not connect with the characters in this book. What fifteen year old in America in this day and time with the technology that we had that don't know what a french kiss is? I don't understand why Hudson kept referring back to being a sinner. There was no mention of any type of religion in this book except for that. I hate to sound like a heartless bitch but...I'm sorry that whats her name died, even if it was in "book real life". But come on. No one made her drink. Hudson was a pussy. You are responsible for your actions. Not anybody else. To me this book was poorly written. I do not recommend it.

I FELL INLOVE WITH THIS STORY FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. I LOVE THE WAY JS COOPER KINDA LET US SEE THE CHARACTER GROW UP WITH THEM SO WE WOULD GET THE FULL EFFECT OF THE CLOSENESS THEY SHARED. BLAKE HAS ALWAYS BEEN RILEY'S PROTECTOR IN EVERYTHING. SOMETIMES YOU JUST CANT HELP WHO YOU FALL INLOVE WITH. BLAKE STARTS DATING CLARA, AND AS SOON AS HE SEES RILEY AGAIN ALL THE FEELINGS HES HAD FOR RILEY COMES BACK.... THEY SHARE A MAGIC MOMENT.... THEN A TRAGIC ACCIDENT HAPPENS AND THEY DRIFT APART AGAIN. I GUESS YOU WILL HAVE TO READ ON TO SEE IF TRUE LOVE PREVAILS. THIS BOOK IS A HIT AND I WOULD RECOMMEND TO ALL MY FRIENDS!!!!

I waited for this book to come out and it just wasn't what I was expecting. The writing was good, but I just couldn't fall in line with the living in sorrow, misplaced guilt, non communication thing that they all seemed to have going on. I just couldn't fall in line with it in this one.
However, the moments when they were together, be it present or past, I did enjoy. They had a sweet love for each other.

Hudson & Riley’s Sweet And Heartbreaking Story Is A Slow Burn Romance That Begins In First Grade And Spans Fifteen Years!

Riley, twenty-one, has been in love with Hudson Blake most of her young life. He had briefly been the bane of her existence, but he soon became her protector. His sister Eden had become her best friend, so she spent a lot of time at his house growing up. He had been a fixture in her life since age six. She saw less of him when he went away to college of course, but she had always hoped that they might one day be together, and she had reason to hope that he might feel the same about her. She could have gone to a highly ranked school, but when it came time to apply to college she knew following Hudson to State and studying journalism was the right choice for her.

Hudson Blake, twenty-four, is atoning for his sin. Broody and broken, he has a single focus. He tries to block out all thoughts of Riley since he can never be with her. She had been like a second sister to him, but when she turned fifteen his feelings for her began to change – which was wrong for so many reasons. He was supposed to be her protector. She was his little sister’s best friend – not to mention that she was too young. But going away to college had separated them, and soon their lives had drifted apart.

Hudson and Riley’s sweet and heartbreaking story is a slow burn romance that begins in first grade and spans fifteen years. Hudson is adorably kind to little Riley. He has a deep sense of responsibility, which is both good and bad. Riley is sweet and innocent. Their conversations are cute. They make an adorable couple, and watching their story develop over the years is endearing. The couple eventually earns their happy ending.

There are a few issues that merit mention. *Spoilers* First, it is a little difficult to follow why Hudson is still living away at State a few yeas after graduation, and unclear what he is doing there. Also, there appears to be a typo when Riley is said to be eighteen. She should have been seventeen at the beginning of her senior year of high school. Next, that Hudson suddenly gets involved in a certain activity at age twenty-four and immediately excels in it despite fierce competition seems a little convenient. And that Hudson takes things to such extremes in terms of his sense of responsibility and the resultant actions, feels a bit dramatic. Finally, it is hard to imagine a four year gap in time could take place without them seeing one another or without addressing their outstanding issues.

Hudson and Riley’s tender story is a quick read about patient love. It is nicely written. The plot is fairly simple but there are a few twists. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Hudson and Riley. I rate this book four stars.

I received a copy of this book and audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Her Batman

This book is about Riley. At six years old she had a bully on the bus that pinched her everyday. She finally told her mom. Her mom bought her to his house and made him become her her protector instead. She became best friends with his sister. Hudson went away to college and met someone else. They had a rocky relationship. The last day if summer vacation changed a lot. For both of them. This book is an emotional coming of age romance story. That has many bumps. Well worth a read.

Where to start. It was a great story. Short and still had development of characters and overall great plot. It sucked you in. I heard the whole thing in one sitting. I felt so involved with the storyline that I just had to keep listening. There was drama, and humor. Even some mystery. The begging was a tad confusing, and I felt like the title didn’t really go with the plot, but it all does a complete circle. It all wraps up nicely.

love love love this book.
I read some of the reviews and though I need to read this. I was right. I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book in 6 hrs. You feel like you know the characters and you are going on this right with them. There were a few grammar errors but nothing that os so horrible you can't read it. o would recommend this book and I would reread this book.

Audio book review

I like J.S Copper stories. She wrote stories that touch your heart . This story is about puppy love that grows and binds the hero and heroine together. The hero has a protective side towards the heroine.
Hero is Hudson. Heroine is Riley.

Grab it and see what real love is about

The narrator performance is great. Her voice is smooth, clear and strong

I loved Hudson. He promised to protect Riley when they were both young and he kept that promise until he left for college. As they grew older, they went their separate ways but are reunited & tragedy strikes tearing them apart again. This is a fantastic second chance love story with everything you hope to find in a J.S. Cooper novel.
