Darcy Fletcher has been struggling to find her purpose in life. She’s run out of general classes and still doesn’t know what her major should be. Perhaps taking a job as a nanny this fall will be a better use of her time than college. At least she’ll be making money instead of wasting it.
The new high school coach, Evan Porter, has decided that small-town Sugar Creek is where he wants to raise his five-year-old daughter. Unfortunately, he needs extra help during the football season. One of the Sugar Mamas sets him up with a nanny. Darcy’s young, impulsive, full of energy, and too appealing for her own good. He can’t stop thinking about her, but Evan learned the hard way that young love doesn’t last, and he won’t be Darcy’s practice run.
Will Darcy find she belongs with Evan, or will their age difference be too much for him to get over?
I met the man I would marry when I was twelve years old. We went on our first date to my junior prom when we were sixteen. My hair was teased in true 90's style, stuffed with baby's breath, and my blue dress had the puffiest of sleeves. I felt like Cinderella on her way to the ball.
Our romance was a classic slow burn. Seriously, it took him two years to finally kiss me! But it was worth the wait. We were married at the age of twenty-two and have been chasing our happily ever after since then.
It wasn't all hearts and roses. We supported each other through college, four kids, multiple jobs and moves, and various emotional and health struggles. We've remained best friends through it all, which is why I believe in true love and happily ever afters.
The challenges and successes of finding and fighting to keep love are what I strive to bring to my stories. When I was growing up, everyone acted like finding your love was the end. After that, everything would be wonderful, but life isn't like that. Every day is a choice, and I strive to bring that reality to my romance stories.
I want to preface this by saying I received an ARC copy for this book and my review is completely voluntary.
Thank you to the author for giving me the chance to review this book. I used it as material for one of my YouTube videos and would review it in detail during my monthly reading wrapup videos.
I rated this story a 4 stars but I'll be honest it's more of a 2 stars to a 3.75 stars book---yeah I know it's a wide range but stay with me.
The book follows our two main characters, Darcy and Evan. Evan's a single dad who's 31 or 29(keep this 2 facts in your hand, they'll be handy later) and Darcy is just 21.
Already from the getgo you can understand the two main tropes in this book: single dad and age gap.
Now Evan has a daughter, a sweet lil girl called Sara whose mom bounced after a while and now her dad is taking care of her and all that.
Their meet cute? Well what better place than a wedding, Darcy's brother's wedding who is also Evan's friend which makes this book kind of a brother's friend book. It's just missing the best friend part.
From the onset, you can see that there's instant attraction between the both of them, especially on Darcy's part. Like she's gobsmacked and looking at him like he's a piece of cake.
And what's Evan doing in the middle of all that? He's just taking care of his daughter.
I love how Darcy wasn't put together from the beginning. As someone who's 23 and still figuring life out, I'm glad to see books with 20 something year olds still struggling and trying to figure things out.
Cause like, it ain't easy. Bro, it ain't easy.
Anyway. back to the review:
1. Sugar Mamas group sounds cute but when I think of it, it's not cute. My gosh, these women were so involved in Darcy and Evan's love story I was cringing for them. Also, how small is the town? In one part, a character (I think her name was Jullie) was like the town was a big city compared to where she was coming from.
But like it's also small enough for them to be this nosy, so which is it?
There's also me not believing the old ladies had this exclusive a club but where so involved in almost everyone's issues.
2. The dialogue and at times the prose: Cluncky. The flow of words, flow of sentences and my gosh I know this word (cinch) was only used thrice, but by the second time I was rolling my eyes when it came to the dresses Darcy wore. And it was only for Darcy.
There's also the dialogue, it read info dumpy and cluttered in the way I was like people don't talk like this. And the prose too.
3. Miscommunication and the potential third act breakup: I saw the miscommunication a mile away and frankly I'm on Evan's side.
Evan was and is Sara's dad. It's his duty to care for her and all his feelings were born out of fear. Yes Sara should have the chance to explore and who doesn't want that for the girl. But at the same time, listen to the person who has more expertise on the matter and has actually gone through it.
Darcy's feelings towards Evan reminds me of a baby chick imprinting on the first animal they see and calling them mama (Tom and Jerry).
All in all, it was a nice book and I'm grateful to the author for giving me the chance to read it.

Catch Me If I Fall completely pulled me in with its mix of heartfelt emotion, small-town charm, and swoony romance. Single dad + nanny is already a favorite trope of mine, and this story delivers it beautifully, especially with the added age-gap tension handled in a thoughtful, mature way.
I listened to the audiobook, and narrator Cindy Goulding was fantastic. Her performance added so much depth and emotion to the story. She did an amazing job bringing the characters to life, capturing both the tenderness and the chemistry in a way that made it easy to get completely immersed.
The hero is everything you want in a single dad romance: devoted, protective, a little overwhelmed, and deeply lovable. Watching him juggle parenthood while slowly opening his heart again felt very real and emotional. The nanny heroine is just as strong, kind, patient, and grounded, yet still figuring out her own place in the world. Their connection builds naturally, with plenty of quiet moments, meaningful conversations, and simmering chemistry.
What really stood out to me was the emotional depth. This isn’t just about attraction, it’s about trust, healing, and letting someone catch you when life feels unsteady. The family dynamics, especially involving the kids, added so much warmth and heart to the story.
Set in Sugar Creek, the small-town setting adds an extra layer of coziness, and fans of the Fletcher family will love getting deeper into this world. If you enjoy single dad romances with a gentle slow burn, believable age-gap tension, and lots of emotional payoff, this one is absolutely worth the listen. I can't wait for Brandon's story.
Catch Me If I Fall is a wonderfully sweet addition to the Seasons of Sugar Creek series, and it works beautifully as a stand‑alone story. River Ford brings the charm of small‑town life to the forefront once again, crafting a gentle, heartfelt romance that’s easy to sink into from the very first chapter.
Darcy and Evan’s journey is tender and relatable, filled with quiet emotional moments and the kind of slow‑growing connection that feels both natural and rewarding. Their chemistry is warm rather than flashy, and I appreciated how their relationship unfolded with sincerity and care.
But the real standout for me was Evan’s five‑year‑old daughter. She absolutely stole the show. Her personality leaps off the page, written with so much authenticity and sweetness that every scene she appeared in added an extra layer of joy to the story. She’s the kind of character who makes a book linger in your memory long after you’ve finished.
Cindy Goulding’s narration was a perfect match for the story. Her performance brought each character to life with clarity and heart, and she captured the emotional nuances beautifully. It made the audiobook experience even more enjoyable.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
- Age gap - Single father - Nanny romance - Small town romance
This small town romance is absolutely adorable! Between the Sugar Mamas (a group of nosy, but well intentioned women) to the sweet little girl, Sara, I was on sweetness overload! The Sugar Mamas reminded me a lot of groups from other beloved series, so I was all for it.
Darcy has come home for her brother's wedding. She sees a stranger as one of the groomsmen. He is so handsome...and has a little girl. However, they didn't have the best meet cute. Evan is very attracted to Darcy, which is not on his agenda!
Darcy is trying to find herself. She feels a bit disconnected and adrift. She isn't sure what is her calling. She goes through several jobs during this time.
Evan, a high school football coach, is in need of childcare for the upcoming football season as his normal babysitter is unable to watch Sara. Everyone suggests he find a nanny...
The Sugar Mamas are in full gear when they suggest Darcy take on a job as a nanny....
I enjoyed watching the dynamic of Evan and Darcy. They had such a sweet connection!
I enjoyed reading this book and would definitely get the others in the series (it is stand alone, but other books that correlate with it). It was low-spice, just kissing, but one make-out scene. No swearing, which I appreciated. My only criticism is I don't like it when books keep dwelling on the same thing. Example (I don't think it will give anything away) - they kiss multiple times, hold hands, all the things you do in a relationship...and then both are still questioning if the other person likes them. Over and over. I get if at one point, you think that, but to keep reading it over and over doesn't seem realistic to me.
Also, there were quite a few words missing. I kept having to re-read the sentence until I figured it out something is missing. I think there were like 5-10 words missing throughout the book...mostly toward the end. One page had three words missing in different spots. Not like a blank spot where it was missing, but the sentence was missing a word and didn't make sense without it.
Darcy's home from college and Evan is a high school football coach. His daughter Sara was born with a congenital heart defect and her father is overbearing in his protection of her. The school year has started and Evan realizes that he needs to hire a nanny for Sara and it's Darcy who steps up. The slow burn between Darcy and Evan is cute, but laced with miscommunication. Darcy treats Sara as anyone else but keeps her heart condition in mind. Evan treats her with kid gloves and it's frustrating how he doesn't give her any leeway to be just a kid. Evan's anxiety about her condition colors everything in his life and makes him overreact when Darcy treats Sara like a normal child. When she does come down with a cold, Evan loses it and he steps over the line by pushing Darcy away. He knows that he overreacted once again, and he has to decide if he wants a future with Darcy and his daughter. The narration was very well done by Cindy Goulding. She gives each character a unique personality and attitude with her expressive, well-modulated voice.
This is an opposites attract, age-gap story that was well-written and I really found quite entertaining. Darcy is struggling to find her path in life. She's taken a variety of classes in college, but still is not sure what she wants to do. She decides to take a little break and takes a job as a nanny for Evan's 5 year old daughter. Evan is the new coach at the high school and has his life pretty well laid out. Darcy and Evan have an intense attraction to each other, but Evan is afraid that Darcy's young love won't last and she might not be ready to be a parent. Although Darcy hasn't figured out her path, she knows that she wants Evan and his daughter to be a part of it. Darcy and Eva's developing relationship was great to see, but I also enjoyed the sweet bond between her and Sara. This story pulled me in from the start and kept me engaged till the end. A very charming story! I received a complimentary copy from StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Darcy and Evan seem like total opposites with Darcy being conflicted on what to do with her future and Evan having his life together with his daughter Sara
Darcy becomes Sara's nanny and Darcy and Evan have this chemistry there's no denying. Evan is concerned that Darcy isn't ready to be a parent since she is still so young and has plenty of life to live. Darcy is ready for something concrete, stable, and full of love.
"I thought you should get the Witchy Woman." "Why?" "Because you've bewitched me." is one of the cutest moments between Darcy and Evan.
I loved this book and everything about it. Darcy's relationship with Sara just proves that you don't have to be someone's biological parents to love them as your own. It was the cutest book I have read in a while.
Darcy didn't know what she wanted to do with her life. It frustrated her. She felt all her siblings had their acts together and were making differences in peoples lives. So in an effort to figure that out she came back home. Not only for her brothers wedding, but to figure out her life.
Evan, I am standing in for someone at Austin's wedding. No one told me that I would be paired up with a gorgeous lady. She is to young and I can't go down that road again. If not for me, for Sarah. I can't mess this up.
This was a great read. Loved the Sugar Mommas and all their sass/meddling. Must read.
Another hit by Ms. Ford! It’s time that Darcy found her way in the world, and little did she know that a little girl (and her dad) would lead her down the right path.
I loved starting this book because it felt like coming home to family with reach word written. But I was saddened when it ended. Just like a good vacation River Ford has given us a reason to come back year after year, book after book — home.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read more in this lovely series in exchange for a review copy. The opinions are my own, the rating earned not given.
The next story after A home for Christmas. This is Darcy and Evan's story. They meet briefly at Jackie and Austin's wedding. Darcy gets hired on as a nanny for Evan's daughter, Sarah, who is adorable. Sarah had a rough start in life and Evan is over protective of her. Darcy and Evan fall in love but Evan has to learn his daughter is not made of glass and Darcy that she has to communicate better. With a little help from the sugar mamas and a wish they get to their happily ever after.
The new football coach has a broken heart, a beautiful little princess daughter, and more in his life than fear and apprehension. His new nanny is young, but beautiful, intelligent and strong willed. Two lost hearts drawn to each other that deserve to become a happy family of three and fulfill a little girl's wish. I'm ready to read the next addition of The Fletcher Family.
Another sweet holiday romance. This was a closed door, single dad romance and was perfect for this time of year. The FMC was so thoughtful with his daughter and I enjoyed watching her figure out what she wanted to do after school. The MMC had the sweetest relationship with his daughter and I really enjoyed seeing him work through his fear surrounding his daughter and her heart defects. Overall, this was another very sweet romance in the town of Sugar Creek.
Loved this story. Fun, and heart warming at the same time. Loved hearing the continuation of the Sugar Creek Saga. The Fletcher family is changing. The children may be grown up but the sugar momma's still have a job to do. The second of the Fletcher children will have their place by the end of the book. 2 down 3 to go. Cant wait for the next book.
Darcy needed a job and Evan needed someone to watch his little princess but little did they know they would fall in love. This is a very sweet little love story. It’s very well written and keeps you wanting to know more! If you love romance books without all the spicy details then this book is for you!
I enjoyed this story with Darcy and Evan. The author, River, really laid out the age gap in this story and the perspective of both Darcy and Evan. I got really involved in this story and couldn't put it down. It was a great book.
This was such a fun and sweet story! I loved the characters, Sarah was an absolute sweetheart and you can’t help but love her. I loved the small town feel, the close knit family, the well meaning but nosy town ladies. It was full of laughs, and sweet moments, & love.
Book number 2 was just as great as number 1. I am loving this series. Highly recommitted the family series. Live then characters and River does an awesome job really getting you into the story.
Another sweet small town age gap romance by River Ford. Evan and Darcy. And Evan's daughter, 6 yo Sarah. Some angst. Lots of "awe" moments. Pulling for them the whole way!
The narration was spot on. A real cute voice for the 6yo Sarah. 5 well deserved stars for this narrator.
Beautiful story , excellent writing with great characters , story and descriptions, sweet read . Compelling and fun I read an arc of this and my review is voluntary
Such a sweet story. As with the other books by River Ford, I had a hard time putting it down until the end. Evan and Darcy are a great couple, but Sarah was the heartbreaker.
A nice small town story and HEA for a Fletcher child. Many feels were woven into this romance. Of course the Sugar Mamas had plenty of advice to share. The characters flowed in and out of the story very well. Descriptions of feelings, thoughts and the town were written beautifully. Adding a cutie pie child to the mix always makes for many fun and educational adventures. I listened to this on audiobook and the narration was spot on for entertaining, emotions and all around enjoyment.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT Darcy Fletcher has been struggling to find her purpose in life. She’s run out of general classes and still doesn’t know what her major should be. Will Darcy find she belongs with Evan, or will their age difference be too much for him to get over?
MY TAKE It was fun to be in Sugar Creek again, and the story touches on something that can be an issue when one of the love interests is a lot older than the other. In this case, it's ten years, but there's a whole lot of living that can happen in a decade. Evan's had a tough go of thing when his ex-wife walked out on him and their seriously ill baby daughter. And one of the problems is when the older person thinks they know everything because of those extra years of experience.
So when he meets Darcy for the first time and is seriously attracted to her, all his defenses go up. The last thing he needs is another flighty young woman in his life. But the Sugar Mamas have other ideas, and maneuver things, so Darcy is the obvious choice to be his daughter's nanny.
Since Darcy is taking a break from school trying to figure out what major to pursue, and she's already crazy about his daughter. But after meeting him at her brother's wedding, and coming away with the impression that he's a grump despite her own sizzle of attraction, she keeps their interactions to a minimum.
At first.
What follows is the sweet love story of the making of a family. A swoony romance. And a nice setup for the next book.
This was my first book by River Ford or from this series and I really enjoyed the story, characters, and the town of Sugar Creek. I look forward to reading more from this series including the next book about Brandon Fletcher and Summer that is supposed to come out in June 2024 Memories of Summer. I also have A Home For Christmas on my TBR list about how Darcy's brother Austin got together with Jackie.
I received a free copy of this book via StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved this book. It had great characters. Darcy and Evan were perfect together. Darcy is back home for her brother's wedding and needs to decide what she wants to do next. Evan is a single dad and needs a nanny for his five year old daughter Sarah. The suger mama's tell him to ask Darcy. The chemistry between them since the moment they met has been difficult to ignore. They both don't want to risk their hearts. I absolutely adored Sarah and loved how she was a major part of the story. Cindy Goulding has done an amazing job as the narrater for all the character's. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I recieved an ARC of this audiobook for free via story origin and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Such a cute age gap story. Darcy is very unsure of what she wants to do, so she makes the choice not to return to college for the semester. Little did she know she would figure it out. I truly enjoyed her path to finding what she wanted to do as well as love along the way. I enjoyed Evan, but at times was frustrated with how protective he was of his daughter. However, he did learn to bend a bit. The relationship Darcy and Evan’s daughter has is adorable. You have to read it to see how cute. Overall, it was a fun fall read that puts a smile on your face.
The narrators did an amazing job bringing the characters to life. I truly enjoyed listening to the story.

Audiobook: I enjoyed this story. Darcy Fletcher needed a job as she looked for a new career path. Evan Porter needed a nanny for his daughter during the football season. The two agreed to put their differences aside and help each other out until January. The story was charming. The characters were personable. The tropes were age-gap and close proximity. Cindy Goulding's narration was good, but her voice for the young daughter edged toward whiny at times. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
4 stars ⭐️ - This one was such a cute, quick fall themed romance read, it was such a wholesome single dad/nanny romance with some age gap and found family thrown in there. It really came together nicely, I wish it went on a bit longer because I just wanted more of Evan and Darcy and little Sara.
Perfect read for this fall, spooky season, it felt like a warm hug the whole time I read it. So excited to read more books by River Ford!
