I picked this up as I'd heard it could fill the void that was left behind by the never to be completed Rokka no Yuusha. I'm glad I did.
A really good series that combines mysterious world building, strange powers, grey characters and a long overarching plot together, with an atmosphere of a long hidden history over it. It is more psychological, strategy, maneuvering, and story, than it is action oriented, though the action is all the more meaningful for it.
The series doesn't feel drawn out and is just the right length. I was disappointed in the final volume as it was more action and fan service than anything else but didn't regret my time spent.
Worth noting it really needs to be read together in one go. There are a lot of characters with a lot of intertwining stories and details that are relevant player. Skipping any can mean easily forgetting and not understanding what's happening.
