A BDSM Erotic Romantic Suspense Novel Crest Security Agency
Sins of the past have been resurrected, predetermining their path to love. Can they overcome the treacherous obstacles set before them?
Jax Christensen likes his life just the way it is. He has his work, his club, and the occasional naked submissive to take his mind off everything else. He doesn’t talk about the past, as there is no point in reminiscing about things that cannot be altered. His chest has an empty hole where his heart used to be, but he’s grown accustomed to the constant pain. It’s become the only thing that reminds Jax that he’s alive.
Emily Weiss has never forgotten the one and only man she’s ever loved. She’s hidden for two long years in an attempt to protect Jax and herself, desperate to try and stay one step ahead of those who want her dead. She has information that could destroy the United Nations. Unfortunately, they want to eliminate her first. Emily’s exhausted and wants more than anything to feel safe once more. That was how she felt in Jax’s strong arms and she longs to be there again.
When Jax sees that Emily has risen from the grave, his heart and soul are full of anger and regret. He’ll never forgive her lies and deception. He will, however, keep her safe. He hates her for what she’s done, but he doesn’t want her death on his conscience. He’ll protect her and then walk away.
Secrets are revealed and the danger is more sinister and deadly than anyone could have guessed. Jax and Emily are forced on the run and the passion they once felt for one another burns even hotter and brighter the second time around. Jax doesn’t know how he’ll walk away this time or if he even wants to. Emily is determined to expose a high-level official within the United Nations and walk away unscathed. She wants a second chance with her first love — even if it kills her.

Kennedy Layne is a USA Today bestselling author. She draws inspiration for her romantic thrillers in part from her not-so-secret second life as a wife of a retired Marine Master Sergeant. He doubles as her critique partner, beta reader, and military consultant. Kennedy also has a deep love for cozy mysteries, thrillers, and basically any book that can keep her guessing until the very end. They live in the Midwest with their menagerie of pets. The loyal dogs and mischievous cats appreciate her writing days as much as she does, usually curled up in front of the fireplace.
Constant action, intrigue and suspense. Even to the very last word. You just have to keep reading because you literally don't know what is coming next.
Not only are Jax & Emily both great characters in the book, but even the 'Bad Guy' keeps you spell bound.
And YES! Hot, steamy, erotic ADULT romance.
I am hooked on this series. I just can't get enough!
Ok so this second installment in this series had the making of a great book. Romantic suspense, sex, drama, mystery, action, continued characters, and a decent concept of a story. So why only 1 star? Well the story just didn't pull a connection with the characters and the reader. With everything this book promised and the potential to offer, it was just flat, boring, UN inspiring, I felt like while reading it, it was in a monotone voice in my head. It took me so long to finish because I just didn't connect to the story or characters and I found myself making excuses not to read. So not like me I'm a book whore!!! But finish it I did and the ending was just as non captivating as the whole book but hey at least it's finished. Moving away from romantic suspense for awhile this book kinda ruined it for me. I need a break and a good read!
There is nothing redeeming about this novel. Claiming to be romantic suspense is a stretch as I didn't find any romance or suspense. DNF after 36% of an average novel with no comedy or drama or anything. 1.5 stars.
This second book was so much more different than the first book. Like my review for the first book mentioned, it read too much like Kallypso Masters 'Rescue Me' series and that frustrated me to no end, even though there were a few differences.
This book read much differently, it focused more on the mission/goal. It did kind of drag at times but overall it was really good. I love whole mysterious element that was added with Taryn's character, her book promises to be a good one. It was nice seeing all of the original characters making appearances in this book and meeting Elle, who is in book three. Once again the BDSM elements added to the book was done in good taste, nothing crass or crude.
Jax wasn't nearly the same ass that his good friend Connor was...lol. Emily was amazing! I give Ms. Layne much credit when writing her female leads, she doesn't write women whom are scared of their own shadows, she writes women who can defend themselves, whom are strong, confident and courageous!
Great book 2 in this series !! We get to see the team again, and this story is suspenseful and interesting. Emily was dead. Jax has found her !! She is in big trouble with the undercover work she was doing, and the team must help deliver evidence and save her life. I was disappointed that she didn't tell him the whole truth until about 1/3 into the story. But their relationship is full force after that. Perfect story of investigation, mystery, romance, decisions, secrets, and intrigue. Fast moving story flows along, and keeps us interested in the tale and the people. Wonderfully written by Kennedy Layne. I'll be reading more from this author. ENJOY !!!
Don’t like Emily at all. She made herself such a martyr. Because she did everything for love . All she did was lying to him. Again it was long and boring and simply didn’t feel it. And I’m having a really hard time to believe in all the dangers everyone is you feel the need to scene and have time to prepare for it. And have endless time to scene and fuck. So I skipped all the sex parts. They weren’t the interesting enough to read. And she is doing a pregnancy test after being pregnant for about 5 minutes…………..
I really enjoyed the storyline. Plenty of suspense, mystery as well as romance. Also had just enough spice. Good read. I always like series because you get a better feel for the characters and in this series the characters fit well together, like a big fun family. Ajax and Emily have good chemistry.
Assassins, bondage, fear, love, this story is full of action, excitement, heat, loss, love and everything in between. Jax and Emily have a secret that has now been brought into the present. Can they find a way past decisions made with only partial information? Will they survive the assassin? Check out this story and find out.
Second read by this author. The first book was really good, I took a chance on the second book in this series. Ok read but not as intense and interesting as the first. It was a bit long winded and Repetitive.
Ellie is supposed to be dead. But she turns back up after two and a half years very much alive with a bit man on her trail. The only person she trust to protect her is Jax her long list love. Adventure plenty. Action abounding. Sex, raw. Good read.
OMG I couldn't put this book down. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. The romance tugged at the heart strings. And the sex...whew hose me down!
While this can be read as a stand-alone, I loved seeing Jax”s character development from the first book to this one. This is a great group of characters and their unyielding dedication makes you want to know them better.
This is a very enjoyable series with some BDSM and lots of love and spicy sex scenes. Great characters and they lead to the unfolding of more stories...
Yet another amazing story from Kennedy Layne! This one about Jax and his believed-to-be-dead former lover, Emily. With lots of danger, intrigue and a deadly mission to protect the woman he loves, I enjoyed watching the dynamic between Jax and Emily. This was a fast-paced, edge of your seat thriller that didn't disappoint. My only reason for not giving the book 5-stars was due to 2 things: 1. My frustration with Emily - this is a woman who has gone behind the back of the man she loves in order to protect him and yet for the first 1/3 of the book she refuses to tell the entire truth about who she is and the real story behind her "death". Jax is a man with the means to help her vanish forever, he surely has the means to protect himself with the help of all the members of CSA. It just frustrated me that it took her so long to open up and tell Jax everything. She did redeem herself by the end of the book though and I did end up liking her by the time I finished the book. 2. While I'm not typically bloodthirsty, I found a certain "messenger"'s punishment highly unsatisfying. Granted, it seems like there is a mysterious backstory with the messenger and a member of the team, so I'm sure things will get tied up eventually. I look forward to continuing the rest of the series!
...they all needed their heads examined! Or so Jax figures when Emily lands back in his lap catapulting his need off the charts once again. Can he forgive her for the Hell he has been in for the last two years? Can she forgive him for the 'playing' he has done to try and forget her? Does the past really matter if today is your last day? Jax and Emily are perfect for each other, they each have exactly what the other needs....so no matter how much pain and betrayal there is the need and passion is going to override it every time. The only way to keep Emily alive long enough to testify is to take her on the run himself but without his team to act as a buffer Zak struggles to keep it professional and his Dom has had two years to dream up sexy ways to pleasure Emily. An intriguing Kindle Unlimited read with a sexy team of Doms at Crest Security that know plenty of ways to entertain us.
I love this book. I can't wait to read the rest of the series once their written. For me the beginning of the book dragged a little but once the story got started I couldn't put it down. That's not anything bad on the author I just hate the time it takes to get to know you're characters and their back story before getting to the plot. I like all the action and mystery involved in this series. Kennedy also drops hints about the other characters in the series along the way. This makes me excited about hearing their story. The only draw back to this series is that there not all written yet and that's just my personal preference. I hate waiting months until the next one comes out because by that time I've moved on to another and can't remember all the details in the last book.
I really enjoyed this story about two lovers, separated by duty and circumstance, that are reunited to stop a threat to our national security. While Jax helped Emily disappear to save her life two years ago, she has to resurface to give evidence of the sale of weapons of mass destruction and murder to the UN Security Council. She comes to Jax and CSA for protection against an assassin that has been hired to silence her. The passion between Jax and Emily resurges with a vengeance and they try to build a future while still making sure that the international criminals are brought to justice. The passion between the two characters is palpable, but life and duty keep getting in their way. I really liked this story and I can't wait to hear more from Kennedy Layne and the CSA team!
The story is based in a private investigative agency formed by ex-military people. I think this is a good story, even after reading for the second time. The main characters are interesting, and the romance and the suspense keeps the reader'a attention till the end. Besides, there's always the BDSM that's a constant in this series bringing a plus in hotness. We can read each book in the series independently but there's an unsolved plot that goes through all of them. The good thing is that not only all of the agents that work in the firm are interesting characters but we don't get annoyed to know that the villain is still there. I mean, it's not like a story that's broken in two, three or more pieces just to keep selling, when it would be enough to write only one book.
I waited until morning to write the review on this story. The story made me want to cry, yell, and scream at times, and at the same time I melted into big puddles of romantic. Kennedy Layne lays it all out there for you. Like, love or hate it as you will, but I'm a fan.
Jackson lost the love of his life 2 years ago. What hides behind his boss' door, and turns his life upside down will make you wonder what you know about your own life.
Emily has secrets. A TON OF THEM. But only one thing stands in her way of getting back what she most wants in her life.
The rest of the CSA crew is here to help both of these characters, and KL makes sure you'll want more of them.
I see I have a love/hate relationship with this series so far and again I'm contradicting my own views.
I hated Emily until the last quarter I read a petulant, irrating female who will stop at nothing to expose the truth even if it gets everyone killed in the process. Selfish BUT then I loved her!
Jax helped "fake" her death two years ago but turns out Emily has been doing anything but "hiding" BUT you then find out why... Which is good storytelling, because you're like "ah! Now I see!"
BDSM is a factor but doesn't dominate the storyline, it is storyline driven which I like better than it just being D/s.
I don't know what it is about the leading men in this series so far but I don't like them. They're assholes and not the lovable kind of assholes like Lexi Blake's Ian from her brilliant Masters and Mercenaries series. Him I adore, and he's a big asshole! lol. Getting back to Jax and Emily I really couldn't connect to either of them. Emily showed promise but she quickly became just a damsel in distress in need of rescuing.
Kennedy Layne also tends to over-use "her blue Sparkling eyes", or "Twinkling eyes"... every time I read that I had to grit my teeth and eye-roll, so annoying! and If Jak "smirked" one more time! SMH, if I could I'd hit him over the head with a 2x4!
