ALL HE'D WANTED WAS A REUNION WITH A FRIEND. WHAT HE GOT WAS A NATIONWIDE CONSPIRACY AND A JOB PROTECTING ONE GORGEOUS STRANGER.
Deputy sheriff Nate Matthews doesn't know what to think when he arrives in Nevada and discovers his friend murdered. He is sure about the beautiful woman pointing a rifle at him. Sarah Donovan is a liar, she may have murdered her father…and she stirs something inside him he can't possibly explain.
But before they can solve one murder, Nate and Sarah find themselves dodging bullets. Being on the run brings new emotions into focus. After a night of passion in a snowbound cabin, they start closing in on the truth—someone means to strike terror in America's heart….
I was born in Sacramento, California. As a child, I wrote plays for the neighbor kids and invited their parents to performances. As I got older, I started my own family newspaper, handwritten and hand delivered, for the extortion price of 25 cents. Eventually, I moved into writing angst-ridden poems and journals – lots of them. Right after graduating from high school, I married the love of my life whom I met while walking on a beach in Northern California. We had two children, spent years building a house, juggling pets and living on sailboats. All the while, I wrote stories but I never attempted to sell them.
When the kids started Junior High, I started marketing my writing. When my short stories were turned down by mainstream women's magazines, my mother suggested I try a confession magazine. I sold my first story to them within two weeks. What a feeling of accomplishment! I walked on air for about a week! It took me almost two years to sell my next story, but after that, I went on to sell over two dozen to the various confession magazines. The experience of learning to get a story off the ground within a sentence or two was invaluable as was the connection I made with one of the editors. When she moved to a small book publisher, I sent her a completed manuscript which she bought. I wrote twenty books for her, mostly romances with a few mysteries thrown in. During this time, I learned about pacing, plot development and characterization. There is nothing a writer can do to improve their craft that trumps the actual setting of oneself in a chair and writing. Eventually I sold a manuscript to Silhouette. Now, forty books and many editors later, I've written for Avalon, Silhouette, Kensington, and Harlequin Intrigue I am also still married to the love of my life and our two children have given us three wonderful grandchildren.
This was a fast paced story with action, and bullets. The suspense was really good, but not drawn out. The story also had romance between Sarah, and Nate.
Nate Left his badge, and gun behind needing time to think. He had witnessed kids being shot in a mall that still haunted him. As a deputy he felt guilty that he was not able to stop the shooting, and save lives. Sarah was working against the clock. Sarah's mother had a gambling addiction, and owed money to the wrong people. Sarah only had a few hours to get to her dads, beg for money, and get it back to the men that was holding her mom for ransom to save her moms life.
While she was at her dads house, her dad was murdered. Nate showed up to see his old friend, and find his friend had been shot. In chapter two the book picked up pace, and intensity with Nate, and Sarah pinned down by a gunman. I loved the suspense to this story, and all the twist and turns along the way. I was not expecting how the plot finished out. Great book! This will be added to my favorite's, and I will read it again someday.
Nate shows up to a meeting with two old friends but what he discovers is his friend dead in his own house and the man’s daughter hiding out in the house. A snow storm keeps them prisoner inside this house with a dead man. Sarah has her own agenda. She is there to find coins that she can give to her mom who has a bookie on her back but Sarah doesn’t want to tell Nate that. She just wants to get the money and run. But of course, it won’t be as simple as that.
Sarah and Nate uncover a conspiracy that could threaten national security but can they get the word out in time before someone else dies?
Get novel. I loved the beginning of this series. It was suspenseful and made me take a few red herring wonderings before I found the true path of the storyline. Definitely a great read. Check it out.
The suspense keeps you guessing till Alice wants you to know. Lots of drama, action, mystery and even a treasure hunt. Their is a love scene that I skipped over. Some violence.
I liked Nate Matthews. He is a good guy hero all the way. He does not know what he wants right now.
Sarah Donovan character you are not sure what she is hiding. She is a strong character, with a mystery about her.
Nate is meeting two friends in Nevada. He is delayed getting their but his friends are even later. The weather is bad but he decides to drive to his friend's ranch and he finds a dead body. Soon someone is trying to kill him he has no idea why or who it is. Is it someone after Sarah and whatever she is up too? Or is it whoever killed her father?
I did figure out one clue before Nate and Sarah did.
I did not put the book down till I had to. Their was non-stop action, drama that kept me wanting to know more. I want to read the next book in the series Stranded.
I will read more books by Alice Sharpe in the future.
I was given this ebook to read and asked in return to give honest review of it by Netgalley and Harlequin.
In Sharpe’s romantic suspense novel, deputy sheriff Nate Matthews arrives in Nevada to see a friend only to find him very dead. As he takes in the scene of the crime, he finds himself held at gunpoint by the victim’s daughter, Sarah Donovan. While she denies any involvement in the death of her father, it’s clear that something’s not right with her. Before Nate can decipher everything, he and Sarah are dodging bullets. On the run for their lives, they find new emotions erupting and a determination to stop someone before they kill again.
A trip to Nevada turns deadly when a cop finds himself trying to protect the innocent along with a beautiful stranger. What a great introduction to The Rescuers series.
"Shattered" is a well written romantic suspense novel and I loved the witty banters between Nate and Sarah! While Nate and Sarah have their own "struggles" (Nate discovers his murdered friend and Sarah pointing a rifle at him), there's another plot with more than one twists going on... I'm not going to spoiler you, but the ending surprised me and turned out completely different than I expected!
It is not a fluffy romance book; especially Sarah has a difficult past, which overshadowed her life, but with the help of Nate she pulled through.
If you are looking for a healthy mix of romance, heartache and mystery - this is your book ;)
Nate has left being a cop behind to think. He witnessed a tragedy and is still not over it..he is going to meet up with two other men that he witnessed this with..But his Friend Alex's plane is missing..when he goes to Mike's he finds him dead...He finds Mike's daughter hiding there too..they are all kinds of lies she tells him but they end up going on the run thinking some one is after her but it turns out they are after him.Fast paced thriller of a book! Hard to put down
I think it's creepy to meet some guy and soon start making out with him when you've recently discovered the corpse of your murdered father. Plus the book spent so much time on the heroine's gambling mother plot that the reveal of the killer felt out of the blue.

Shattered ( The Rescuers ) series was an exciting read that has you on the edge of you're seat. With explosive heat between Nate and Sarah and people trying to kill them to finding the killer who killed Nate's friends.
Great story. Well paced, smooth writing style, engaging characters, and a fascinating plot. First book by this author that I've read, but I will definitely be reading more of her stories.
