I know it’s not the done thing to put books on my Read list that I haven’t even read, but this one deserves a spot in my feed. My daughter turned six a week ago, and this is the first chapter book she has ever read to me. She did an incredible job and I am proud as punch to have made another little bookworm. Anyway, I guess being read to by my kids isn’t much different to listening to an audiobook … just slower and cuter, like a 🐌
However, I'm a bit conflicted over the bully being a bigger, older boy. Would it be realistic that Billie would not only stand up to a fifth-grader, but also invite him to join her friends? And would an older boy really agree to hang out with a bunch of smaller kids when he already struggles socially?
This is a wonderful book for children! This is the first I've read in this series, but I would say, I'd read more myself as an adult and recommend it to kids. It is a speedy read, and I love how it highlights bigger words that may need some help understanding, or that add good context to what is happening in the story. I enjoyed the use of pictures throughout the story and the explanations of the characters and their feelings. This is a great book to help children understand feelings and how to manage feelings or solve personal conflicts by apologizing to others when we've wronged them. Great read.
There was a bully in Billie’s class and his name is Jason he is mean mean mean! He kicked her new ball in a tree and in a while he got it back with his dad at night.

Day #3 of reading to my indoor guinea pigs before bed. This is a very simple story with a wholesome ending. It is definitely better than how I remember it being as a kid
Sally Rippin, “Billie B Brown: The Bully Buster” (Prahran, Victoria, Aust: Hardie Grant Egmont, 2012). Another excellent story, this time about encountering bullies. “'But I still have friends,' says Billie. 'If you mess up, you just have to say sorry.'” (p37) “Just then, Billie has an idea. A super-dooper idea.” (p40)
The 'Billie B Brown' series by Australian author Sally Rippin is a wonderful set of books helping young kids acknowledge and deal with their range of emotions that arise from various childhood predicaments. These books reinforce the positive outcome of good decision making.
