By relating one man’s amazing tale of triumph over death on multiple occasions, this book brings a fresh perspective to near death experience literature. David Bennett, once a brash young commercial diver whose personal philosophy was “cut your way through life to survive,” was caught in a violent storm off the California coast one night where he drowned. While technically “dead,” he met beings of light, relived his life, and peeked into his future, resulting in a complete paradigm shift for him. Later, he discovered he had stage IV lung and bone cancer—so advanced that his spine collapsed. Miraculously, he survived once again, and this second close call taught him even more about living, loving, and how to find purpose in his life. Voyage of Purpose brings readers right into the heart of the near-death experience, including the sensations of dying, being surrounded by the light, and meeting the Soul Family. Part memoir and part guide for achieving spiritual growth, this book shows how to integrate the most traumatic of incidents into one’s spiritual path in order to live a more meaningful life.
He has consulted for both radio and television as a NDE resource, appearances including being filmed for NBC national news and PBS and appearances on Dr Oz, Angels Among Us, and Coast to Coast AM. David's articles appear in numerous magazines, blogs and papers.
I am a Near Death Experiencer, and I am deeply grateful that David Bennett had the courage and the sheer stick-to-it to write this book. Every fine book that is written on this subject encourages all of us who have had NDE's and STE's to be more open and more secure in our knowing of what has happened to us. Bennett's story of being thrown overboard from a Zodiac into a raging ocean, and his Near Death Experience that came to him, even while using all his mariner skills to keep from drowning, are the stuff of high drama. Yet the center of this event is the beauty and the peace that comes to him from Spirit. It is the intelligence and power of Spirit that not only saves David Bennett, it enlightens him and shows the true nature of death and the meaning of his life. Bennett's subsequent struggle to understand what happened to him is something that I can relate to. And his long bout with (supposedly) terminal cancer brings David a healing experience like no other. Bennett reveals so much of himself in this book. He is flawed, he is vulnerable, and he is human. Yet he lives his whole life, particularly during his long bout with cancer, in attunement with the callings of Spirit. David Bennett's story, like his courage, is beyond inspirational.
Amazing journey. I had the chance to interview David and posted it on my MartiniProds youtube account. That interview appears in the book "Its a Wonderful Afterlife." But I highly recommend reading this book to understand what a near death experience is, and the reverberations of how it's affected David's life. It's similar in scope to Dr. Eben Alexander's "Proof of Heaven" but goes beyond it in a number of ways. David's account of experiencing his "past life review" during his near death experience is pretty startling, and the fact that during his NDE he saw the future - where he would survive cancer, is equally astounding. Dr. Bruce Greyson at the University of Virginia has interviewed David and his case has now become part of the research Dr. Greyson has been doing on the topic. David's story is profound and wonderfully told in this book.
An enlightening read about a man's near death experience and the insights he gained in the spiritual realm. What struck me most was his life review. He learned that the things he had thought were important, such as job advancement were not. Instead, he learned that helping others was much more important in the grand scheme of things.
I received this book through the Goodreads Giveaway and I am glad that it landed in my hands. Beautifully written, thoroughly touching, and an inspiring read. If you are curious about death and how it can change your life for the better, the this book should be on your to get list. Enjoy! I did!
Very informative regarding this authors near death experiences & talking with your spirit. The author is gifted at explaining well what he went through.
Especially this chapter: "This small event had more significance in my life review than many of the major accomplishments I’d prided myself on. I learned that it is more important to live your life day by day, and do the best you can. Cherish your experiences, good and bad, big and small. Try to be as helpful, compassionate and loving as you can. Living life in a loving manner generates the most powerful impact in the life review. Those actions create the largest waves of positive aftereffects."
I am so glad that my husband and I purchased this book! I think that anyone who reads this story will take away something positive from it. I am thankful that David Bennett wrote about his experience and the lessons that he learned from it. He has passed along very thoughtful insights that I am going to make part of my every day. My heart feels full and open after reading about David's journey. If you are seeking to enhance your life then I highly recommend this book!
Totally worth the read for anyone curious about NDE's and every aspect of the experiencer before, during and after they go through this amazing, mystical gift from Creator Spirit. I highly recommend reading of David Bennett's journey as it is one of the most intense, inspirational and eye-opening reads on this topic I have ever found. I have known David for many years, but NEVER dreamed that his life was so incredibly challenging and yet, learning of how those challenges became incredible opportunities that he turned into spiritual growth to a point of the sometimes seemingly unattainable true ONENESS and embracing of the true Heart I could imagine possible. Kudos David for this incredible book and, in keeping with what I learned from your book, I have placed the book on my pile for keeping; BUT the intent is that I shall pass it on to someone Spirit brings to me who needs to read it with hope they are inspired to read and then do the same.
Inspiring, harrowing, miraculous! High drama, deep insights awakened a knowing as the truth resonates and I felt along for the voyage. Left me feeling hopeful.
