This has been on my shelf to read for awhile. Such a fascinating stories. As I begin my journey studying modern revivalism, I can’t help but be encouraged by the fruit of the gospel in Wales and across the world in the early 20th century. At the same time, the inevitable result is a decline in theology, church discipline, solid preaching, and, quite honestly, Christians in the decade to follow is rather concerning. The author of this book suggests that up to 20% of the converts during the revival in Wales may have walked away from their faith in the next five to six years.

Detailed account of the 1904 Welsh revival. speaks of what a true revival is, and often, the Lords people moved to pray. God graciously answers by sending the Holy Spirit in great power. Bringing an overwhelming sense of sin, crying out to be saved, fervent desire to know more of God, deep desire for the salvation of souls. Also addresses what a revival is not, never man made, never whipping ourselves up to frenzy mode. It is the work of our Sovereign God alone, by his grace, and that he pleases to do so.

A more in-depth and well-balanced look at the 1904 revival in Wales covering its various leading figures, especially but not exclusively Evans Roberts, those practices that went into obtaining revivals, the peculiarities that resulted, its spread and effects in Wales, its worldwide influence (covered in one chapter), and much more.

This is a required book for those interested in the Welsh revivals but also revivals in general.
