OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

Every time I go on holiday, I buy myself a Lonely Planet guide. I love having so many of them, but was rather excited when I spotted copies of Western Europe and Eastern Europe. These both group together a selection of countries in geographical proximity to one another, and are really useful for taking on trips where you are visiting more than one country. Whilst the information which they give on each place is nowhere near as comprehensive as in a full country or city guide, there is still enough here to get by with. Several recommendations for things to do, places to eat, and where to stay are given, and I can see myself using it a lot in future.

Trips which I have taken this book on:
February-March 2018: Munich and Salzburg
July 2018: Ypres
September 2018: Dublin
October 2018: Venice
