I'm no stranger to photography as it's part of my family's business. That said, I picked this book up at a used book store because I was interested in combining my passion for astronomy and my understanding of photography. My goal was to refresh my understanding of long exposures and get ideas for suitable targets so I could be out in the field ASAP.
This did not read like a Getting Started book. While it's suitable as a reference, most "Getting Started" formats tend to introduce technical concepts in stages. This book dives straight in to the nitty-gritty within the first chapter. The first chapter alone is obsessed with explaining extraneous details about equatorial mounts and clock drives without building up to why such-and-such equipment is useful in the first place. A lot of this equipment is definitely not necessary for "getting started" on simple long exposure astrophotography as plenty of impressive imagery can be made with just a DSLR, a tripod and some software to stack images.
Great book for beginners and semi experienced a like
Thoroughly enjoyed and learnt quite a bit only relatively new to Astrophotography and amateur astronomy but enjoy technical hobbies ,as I live in Sydney Australia not all is relevant like setting circle settings and some targets but the basics are the same just started putting the Azeq6 in EQ mode so lots to learn about equatorial mode and polar alignment.
It doesn't matter if you've been around astrophotography for a while or you are just starting out. This book can help any person at any stage learn and progress. Good read!
