The Yagyu ninja scrolls revenge of the hori clan, a mouthful of a name that is supposed to represent this interesting story. I say interesting of course, I don't think this story is any good, not really, I actually think this is a bad one, but the interesting part could of been stuck to any other mediocre story that I dropped from how dull they were, and that is my belief that a story should avoid being a dull mediocre story.
To start with, this story sees a samurai named Jyubei train 7 women in order to get their revenge on the 7 spears, men who killed those women's families. That's about it, a lot of other plot points are opened, but none are explored to any meaningful depths and only the revenge plot is concluded. And even that revenge plot is devoid of any weight, meaning, or any suspense. This story tried to make Jyubei a bad ass, but I can't help simply not giving a shit about Jyubei (who is as interesting as a wet tissue) or the 7 card board cut outs that are the women. The women have nothing to distinct them from one another except for maybe one of the women and a second one if you squint hard enough.
I don't care about this plot, and neither does this story. What I care about is how this story flip flops from a story I would drop from how dull it is, to a hilarious piece of garbage. And that is what kept me reading. This oscillation from an ok(barely) story, to a so bad that it is good one, to a simply bad one. I couldn't help but think to myself that my belief is right, there is definitely merit in a good and of course a great story, but there is also certainly merit in a horrible story as it is entertaining and could even be dissected. What surely has no merit is another mediocre story to trudge through.
