Removing the Gargoyle’s Mask

Rate this book
Martin Marty Beakman finds himself entranced by a bearded, cloaked stranger in a coffee shop, Raymond. Although he feels like a stalker, he returns again and again until he eventually figures out a pattern. When Marty is confronted by his brother Matthew regarding his actions, he admits his attraction to someone he’s never even spoken to. After his brother encourages him to change that, Marty follows Raymond in an attempt to do just that. Instead, he sees something almost unbelievable…Raymond removes his cloak, spreads wings, and flies into the night. When Raymond, out of the blue, contacts Marty online, will he give in to his desire to learn more about the guy? Or, will the strange sight the evening before keep him from seizing the opportunity?

Hmm. It was nice. Raymond, the gargoyle, was the smaller mate this time. He was sweet, no tears in sight. I did note, there seemed to be a difference in his wings. I'm not sure if it was just me, or it was described differently in this story. It seemed like in the others, Maelgwyn and Einan, they were separate entities that grew out from their backs. They use them to wrap around their mates and they also used them to hit others in fights. But Raymond's seemed to stretch from between his arms and his ribs, like you would see on the some skydiving suits. Did it change just for this book or is he different than the others? Just wondering.

Marty? Nice alpha male, no over the top caveman antics. He was confused, curious and open-minded, especially with the "discovery". Just when the story seemed to get going though, it ended. Marty went down fast with being and stayed there. There was no real development of their relationship. They went from learning about one another to being in love.

Some of these books just seem to envelope a few chapters of the overall story. I'm all for carrying a single theme from book to book, but I do expect, that the characters from each book get a full story, from beginning to end.

In any case, I liked it and will move on with the next story.

Hm. It was not… bad. Certainly okay. Just nothing out of the ordinary for this series. Which is all right. Just a few hours of mindless entertainment. It works.

I only have few things to add.

Most interestingly, in this volume the gargoyles don’t seem to know the meaning of secrecy. Invariably they crash through all doors in full view of the uninitiated, so to speak. It makes me wonder how they managed to remain undiscovered for so long.

I liked Marty. No huge depth but he was a sweet kind of guy and his odd readiness to accept just about anything without thought certainly helped with an insta-love story like this.

Although… I understand that Marty is somewhat distracted at the time, but he’s just met Sapian’s clearly female mate. So when he’s told about how bonding works why doesn’t he ask the obvious question of whether she needed to, er, spill inside Sapian too. Because I want to know how that works.

And… ahahaha; ha. I am totally shocked. Yeah, the text yet again gave us pecks for pecs, but then… During the online chat Raymond actually uses pecs! Ah!
Mind you, it goes back to pecks in the narrative later but still. I am intrigued and impressed. (And speculating on whether this means Raymond’s supposed to have typoed. That would amuse me.)

Not one of the authors better books. Kind of felt like this one was 'phoned in'. Several character interactions didn't seem plausible. Stop now if you don't want spoilers.

Maelgwn decides to have Raymond's mate kidnapped after Bobby & Cornelius are caught having lunch with Marty in an attempt to help Raymond. He then sends Vane, the scariest looking and least friendly of the gargoyle clutch to do the kidnapping?

Then Mealgwn, Einen and Greg go to the hospital to 'rescue' Marty and kidnap his nurse Leroy and expose gargoyles to Leroy.

Then Marty's brother Matt and friend Leroy are left alone with Marty after sundown and Raymond isn't warned they are still there so he runs into the room exposes gargoyles to humans again?

The resolution to the stalker Raymond has attracted is to have Vane kill him while he was trying to sneak into the mansion? That could have been handled better. No questions answered, no confrontation with the 'bad guy'? How did he find Raymond and the gargoyle clutch? Did he know about gargoyles? If Raymond is such a good computer hacker how did he put the whole clutch in danger by not covering his tracks after his cyber dates?

As I said, this feels like a story that the author just threw together to meet a deadline. Not her best work.

Another good book by Charlie Richards. The only thing that disappointed me was we didn't get to see Raymond take his human form.

I just loved this installment of the series. Gargoyles are different and fascinating. Raymond (gargoyle) walks into a coffee shop and finds his mate, Marty. He's used to being alone and spending most of his time on computers. When Marty finds out what he truly is, he's understanding and still feels the pull. I enjoyed the style of writing, and the characters were understanding, and extremely supportive. Leroy was a nurse who I really liked with a sassy personality, along with his brother, Matthew, and friend Logan. They were great. I was totally pulled into this story, and I'm excited to read Matthew's saga. This book, however, did end a bit abruptly while I was still expecting and wanting more. Although, I did enjoy it immensely since I remained enthralled throughout this gargoyle romance. :)

Another Charlie Richards winner. I love how this writer works. She gives us just the right amount of angst, drama, mystery, action and erotica to make her readers and fans be on the lookout for more books.

Removing the Gargoyle's Mask is the fifth installation to her A Paranormal's Love series. Here, we have human Marty spotting the most unlikely individual in a cafe and becomes stalkerish in his actions. He does not know why this stranger is so attractive to him. For one thing, he normally goes for the women, although he does admire a man or two. But he never gets satisfaction. They never seemed right.

This man, this stranger, this coated, bearded, sunglasses wearing guy, just seemed right.

As the blurb suggests, he follows him into the night, at the edge of the forest and witnesses something he ought not to have: the man takes off the coat and flies off.

Raymond has been watching out for his mate for a long time and he saw it in Marty. Sneaking out at odd times, he made sure to be at that cafe where he knows his mate is waiting, watching. For him. When he tells his friends about his mate, the two make plans to make sure Marty and Raymond get their chance of happiness.

Of course, as all interferences go, they make a boo-boo out of it. It does end happily enough, thank goodness, when the plan results to Marty getting kidnapped and mated. This was the fun part.

The not so fun part was Marty getting hurt by not even an ex-boyfriend. Raymond's online bestie seems to be a little off-kilter and hurts Marty resulting in his getting fully bonded. And healed. And transformed.

This was such a fun read and I finished this yesterday in under an hour. There was just the right elements of all things I like in a paranormal romance. What I really liked was that Raymond does not get to fully transform. For me, this was just the right approach for it was not what he may look like as a human that Marty fell in love with. Literally, he fell for the gargoyle, fangs, distorted features, short limbs and all. What I did not like was it ended. I really wanted another chapter or two. Other than that, it was a nice, light read that was very, very satisfying in all the best ways.

Oh yay! I've enjoyed the character of Raymond who was a secondary character in the series and now its his turn to be the hero. I really love this series with the unique addition to the paranormal world these gargoyles and their ways bring.

Marty Beakman has been hanging out at the coffee shop to both observe and watch for the mysterious guy who holds his curiosity, but also heats him up just by scent alone. He finally has the guy's habit down so he knows when he'll show up so that Marty can catch a glimpse. His odd male wears a long trench coat, black gloves, big dark shades, hat and his face is covered in a bushy beard. Everyone else thinks the guy is homeless, but Marty suspects something else. He tries to get up the courage to approach the little guy and meet him.

Raymond can't help himself. Ever since that first time a couple of months ago when he scented his mate- his very human mate in the coffee shop, he keeps going back just to get a glimpse of him and check to make sure all is well with him. If only he could figure out how to take the next step without sending his mate running for the hills when he sees Raymond's gargoyle body.

It could have gone on like that forever if not for the help of a brother, a stalker and well meaning friends. But will Marty forgive Raymond for what he had to do to save his life?

I really liked these two characters and their developing relationship. The addition of all the others who added to, but didn't obstruct the pacing and plot was just a plus. Cuties Bobbie and the pregnant Cornelius as co-conspirators just made me smile. I even had to laugh about how the big dangerous Vale deliberately tried to scare Marty (on a side note, look forward to seeing who he gets as a mate). It is always fun to meet up with the other recurring characters, but I like the new ones who were introduced too. Now that I've met Marty's brother and friend along with his nurse. I can't help hoping to see some more gargoyle matings before all is said and done. Bad boy Logan and the bossy Dr. Perseus top my list.

The stalker part of the plot added a slice of excitement, but I was fine with it taking second place to the relationship. My only disappointment was not seeing what Raymond looked like after he molted.

Another good installment to the series that just makes me eager for more.

I definitely liked this installment. I'm glad the last few books are as good as the first. I take liked Raymond the hacker and I'm happy he got his mate. Marty is a strange character name for me bc I will always think of Marty Mcfly but this Marty was nothing like mcfly!
I wish there was more than one sex scene. .. this isn't the first installment where I felt like the sex was lacking. I also don't like when books end before the mating is final but that's purely a personal preference.
I also liked that author set up possible mating for Marty's brother Matthew and best friend Logan. Also a new human character with a lot of spunk! !
It sometimes bothers me when an author writes a mc with "secret bisexuality" bc it provides an out for addressing the first time gay issues. But I do see the catch 22 in that....

Book 5

When a tantalizing smell teases Marty's senses as he sits in a coffee shop, he is instantly drawn to the mysterious man behind the dark glasses, hat, and long trench coat. Unable to get the man out of his head, for the next several weeks Marty visits the coffee shop in hopes of seeing the man again.

Raymond knows Marty is his mate, but as a gargoyle he is unable to figure out how to get to know the man before revealing his grotesque nature to him. With the encouragement of the other mates in the clutch, he reaches out to Marty via cyberspace and they have a fantastic first date via chat.

When Marty is shot by an unknown assailant, Raymond starts sleuthing through cyberspace until he tracks down the offender. But he also has to deal with helping heal his mate who may or may not survive the bullet wound and the early removal from the hospital where he was taken.

This seems to becoming a trend. Pick a phrase and run it into the ground. This one is the phrase (again) 'his human'...I'd rather hear 'his mate' several times instead.

Concerning the story.. Didn't have too much issue with it until getting to the hospital. The nurse is highjacked (what happened to keeping low key profiles with uninitiated humans?) and then the bro and friend are exposed and show very little reaction.

Also, it was never explained how perpetrator tracked down Ray and Marty. No confirmation that this guy was a fellow hacker.. and if Ray is so good then why doesn't he cover his tracks all the time?

Another fun Gargoyle story with trilling and the introduction of humans to the world of paranormals!

Marty is (to himself) an acknowledged bi-sexual, but he’s never been with a man, so we get the added bonus of him learning about that aspect of mating, as well.

Raymond is kind of funny and – interestingly – the smaller of the two, as Marty is a big guy.

We get to meet some of the upcoming new MCs including Vane and Marty’s brother n addition to hanging out with some of the previous MCs.

Another quick bite of fun and smexy times!

I enjoyed this story thoroughly. The whole series is pretty unique, with gargoyles as one of the main paranormal character types, although mixing with vampires and shifters. I especially liked the way Marty ended up the much more dominant of this pair, even though he was the human and the one that was injured.

I got a little nauseous there at the end...So sickly sweet and perfect. Bah. A lot of other things I didn't appreciate either, like the kidnapping, the shot and childish way everything happened. So over the top. So dramatic. And for guys that rely on stealth they totally suck at it.

it was an ok read pretty much similar to this author's other books, but in different circumstances...
the thing is that we DON'T get to see the whole (100%) story because we don't see Raymond torn human so... that makes it feel slightly incomplete... (^o^)/

Stalker

Marty stalked the guy he was attracted to try to get courage to speak. The first meeting involved kidnapping the next a gunshot. Several new people now know about the gargoyles

Crack, I tell you, her stories are crack. Even with the bad writing and the awful grammar mishaps, I can't get enough.

I need a 12 step program.
