A josei romance tale of fake dating and finding beauty in unexpected places! Part of Seven Seas' imprint dedicated to sexy romance for Steamship!
Office lady Nishimura Kanna has had it with her boyfriend after discovering his cheating ways. When she breaks up with him, he insults her looks, bruising her self-confidence on top of breaking her heart. Then she runs into an old classmate, the androgynous Ichikawa Yuzuki, a man whose gorgeous appearance is a sharp difference from the boyish classmate Kanna remembers from their school days. Not only does she ask Yuzuki to help her become just as pretty, but she ends up pretending to be Yuzuki's girlfriend, too! As things get hot and heavy between them, can a beautiful romance blossom from this "fake" relationship?
Kanna’s boyfriend has hit the three strike rule by cheating on her three times now. She wants to remake herself as revenge and the androgynous Yuzuki offers to help. Help looks an awful lot like sex though.
This is the mangaka’s first published josei manga and you can kind of tell. It’s two full volumes of sticky sexual antics and paper thin characterization with very little drama or development to get in the way.
The androgyny angle doesn’t really amount to much of anything; don’t expect a big exploration of gender identity here, Yuzuki knows exactly what he is, trust me. It’s basically that Kanna encouraged him to enjoy girly things, which apparently goes as far as piercings, and he’s here to return the favour.
Well, so you’d think. They go shopping and this turns into a haircut and a panel at a clothing store. On the one hand, it doesn’t follow the usual montage that would show up at this point, but on the other, you might want to replace the usual with something else.
I guess this is for… uh… I have no idea. It’s not an inherently bad story, but I wouldn’t say it was good either. Yuzuki is respectful of Kanna’s boundaries, but often after the fact rather than before, which is significantly less helpful.
The story seems to take pains to suggest Yuzuki is often mistaken for a woman, and I guess if you squint it’s kind of there, but the art’s not quite strong enough to get any traction from that.
This office setting is part of that ‘high school but they drink’ sort of style that I don’t love, and it seems to be saying it’s an adult title more than actually acting like one. I don’t terribly care whether a story swears or not, but this one seems to slip in f-bombs like it thinks it’s getting away with something.
The sex is… okay? I mean, I’ve seen manga do a lot better, but if you were hoping these two got busy, they certainly pack their schedules over the two volumes. The nudity is all reserved for Kanna, which feels a touch unfair.
Everything but the sex seems to get short shrifted, honestly. It flies over details and skimps on characterization. Minus the heat of physicality, there’s not a lot of spark between our leads. There’s a needless fake dating thing for no reason too, I just have no idea.
The secondary cast is basically nothing. The boyfriend gets only the vaguest bit of comeuppance and somebody else who looks set to cause trouble just kind of takes a rejection and deals with it. Like I said, it’s not that veering off from this sort of thing is bad, but you have to make the other stuff interesting.
It just amounts to so little when there are absolutely the seeds of something that could be sexy and interesting if it was given any attention whatsoever. It has its priorities and they don’t lie in the plotting.
2.5 stars - I mean, it doesn’t make me mad or anything, but it’s merely okay art and underwhelmingly written. I don’t think it has a ton to offer, personally, as I suspect that even people after its frisky business could find better titles out there. As much as I don’t think it’s bad, I couldn’t recommend it either.
2.5 rounded down for art that just didn't quite work. This is merely okay, just kind of underdeveloped. It also is another brick in my working theory that two volume series published in a single book are the companies' way of letting us know that they don't expect great sales from a title.
3.5 ★ - cute, steamy, fluffy. not a whole lot of depth here but I love a good self-contained story (hope seven seas keeps releasing these fun spicy omnibuses) and the art was decent....a little stiff, but there were some really great panels. I think I would have enjoyed this more if there was 1) more focus on the current relationship ('I knew you/fell in love with you when we were young' sometimes feels like a cop-out to actually developing a real adult relationship) and 2) better side characters. also I didn't even realize that this was going to be spicy when I bought it lol! not a bad surprise.

Surprisingly an easy, smutty read recommended for adult and mature audiences. The character’s flaws are the main focus. She wants to get back at her ex by beautifying herself to show him what he's missed out on. This book trope is a “fake” relationship where clearly the other party member has obvious feelings for the other. The aren't many panels or sections on showing how she gains her confidence and self-image. It's a simple book for a manga romance.
I'm disappointed. I bought this while reading Cinderella Closet and had high hopes that were pretty much immediately dashed given the way the book opens. It's smut. Not great smut either. Generic story. Generic, repetitive sex. Adult characters that look like children until they're naked and then there's sudden boobage. Not crazy about the art. Disappointed all the way around.
The title and description had me hooked and sounded right up my alley! Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with what I read. The story has a phenomenal concept, but was severely limited by its length. The pacing just completely threw me out of it.
i thought this was about lesbians and it wasn't which is totally my fault for not reading the back of the book but oh well. the book was kinda entertaining but kinda weird
Cute story about a woman who is not confident due to comments an ex made about her appearance. She reunites with an old classmate who has been in love with her since their school days and he helps her become more fashionable because he is fashionable himself. Their relationship progressed pretty quickly but they always talk things out. There is no misunderstandings in this manga that leads to any big drama. For example, Kanna, our FL, asks for patience from our ML to figure out how she feels since she had recently broken up with her ex and Ichikawa respects her decision which makes me feel that their relationship already is on a good and healthy path. It ends with a cute bonus story that makes me think she’s pregnant but I’m probably reading a bit much into it.

Well, it was… iffy, in a lot of ways. Don’t get me wrong, it’s visually beautiful, but I was really disappointed with the story. Among many complaints I have, one that stands out to me is how I put the book down and all I could think was “Wow, this might be the first protagonist I’ve ever read that has literally ZERO hobbies outside of drinking and rebound sex.” Bleugh. At least the art is really pretty; plus, a confident AMAB androgynous love interest isn’t something you see very often in manga AFAIK and this was very refreshing in that regard.
