Anne Baker trained as a nurse in England, but after her marriage lived in Libya and Nigeria before returning to Birkenhead, where she worked as a health visitor. She now lives with her husband in Merseyside.

I would like to give this book two and a half stars. I was looking for something really light and easy-going and yes, this was it. However, I didn't find the plot very believable and I felt that the story was rather bogged down with a lot of mundane, day-to-day unnecessary information. Overall this was fiction that read like fiction and was a pleasant read but not memorable.

Quite enjoyable, a decent plot, fairly predictable!! One or two niggles, the author mentioned eating salad in March?? I don't think so, salad was seasonal only available in summer. I though her research was a bit lacking but otherwise not bad.

This book is gripping and teaches us that how to survive without the loved one and how to overcome the worst circumstances. This is a story about a girl, Millie, whose husband dies and she has to protect her husband's legacy in any case.

A lovely, easy to read book, the story following the lives of the Maynard family who owned a soap factory in Liverpool. Heartwarming family saga full of love and acceptance with the odd dodgy character thrown in to spice things up.

Another cracker story from Anne Baker

Mystery and mayhem.. Sad and happy. Had me smiling and crying. Shows how strong woman can be. A truly lovely family saga heartwarming and makes one believe in happiness. There are hard times and good moments. A must read if you have read her before. Insight to what it was like during and a after the war. A little bit of history in a story format. Can't wait t o read a another family saga

It didn't move me to tears but it got my attention from the beginning but in the middle it was a bit slow and it picked up and I couldn't put it down. Overall it was an ok book - I don't think I would recommend this book but it wasn't bad.

I really enjoyed this book. Thought Millie was an interesting character and would like to have met her in real life. I did think the end with her and Andrew was a little predictable though. Now passing it on to someone with will also enjoy it

a good read. I liked the history and the characters were strong. millie is clever and admirable. the ending wasn't too predictable as the story takes many twists and turns. I will read more by anne baker.
