This program is specifically intended for adolescents suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder. Clients are exposed to safe but anxiety-provoking situations as a way of overcoming their trauma-related fears. Recounting the memory of the trauma also helps clients emotionally process their traumatic experiences in order to diminish PTSD symptoms. The workbook is designed for adolescent use and includes teen-friendly forms to reinforce the skills learned in therapy.
Edna B. Foa, PhD, is a Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and Director of the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety. The treatment program she has developed for PTSD sufferers has received the highest evidence for its efficacy and has been widely disseminated in the US and around the world.
Very succinct and well laid out treatment book, with things to consider when treating adolescents with PTSD that you might not have to with adults (e.g. working with parents, how to include them in sessions). Each chapter lays out the session structure and even gives examples on how to phrase psychoeducation about the different components to clients. Definitely looking forward to using the things I've learned.
Good book fro understanding the treatment and treatment of PTSD. Treatment program is good speaking from a patients point of view who has completed the treatment. Good refrance book for PTSD treatment.
The book was easy to read and understand the treatment protocol being discussed. The authors gave helpful examples throughout the book to help the reader understand what they need to do as a clinician.
