Tyler Johnston has a life that would be the envy of most twenty-somethings. He lives in New York City, surrounded by his closest friends, has a job in a field he loves, and remains unattached—able to flit from one lady to the next without responsibly. Only problem is, Tyler isn’t in his twenties anymore…
Having watched two of his best friends fall in love and start a family, Tyler is left wondering what will become of his life. So when life hands Tyler his happy ever after, he struggles with his conscience. Can something be right when it’s so very, very wrong? Because everyone knows that two wrongs don’t make a right. In fact, most of the time, they just make things a whole lot worse.
We met and fell in love with Tyler in Imperfectly Perfect – book 1 in the series (Check out my review at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...). Now, it’s time for his story. Tyler has a lot of things going for him. He is unattached, but can get a girl whenever he needs one. He has a job in the field he wants. He lives in NYC with his best friends and 2 of his closest friends just fell in love and had a baby that he completely adores. Life isn’t perfect though. Of his roommates, he makes less and struggles the most with money. He just got passed up for a rookie when ESPN came to talent scout. His last girlfriend drained his savings and he’ll never allow a woman to do that again. He just feels like something is off or missing in his life, much like Emma did in IP.
When Emma’s sister, Liz, comes to stay with the gang for a weekend, Tyler knows something is up. Liz doesn’t visit and her relationship with Emma has always been strained. Even more, he doesn’t know what to make of the girl that he looked at like a little sister growing up. While Emma, Shane and Tyler were always close, Tyler was the one that also felt responsible for Liz. After they left for college, his younger brother told him stories about how Liz had become the mean girl. It didn’t fit with the kid he knew before and it wasn’t fitting with the woman she was now. When the group decided to take Liz out for a night of drinking and dancing, sparks flew between Liz and Tyler. As much as he tried to prevent it, they ended up having sex in the bathroom at the club.
The more he learned about Liz’s life and how unhappy she was, the more Tyler wanted to save her. Every time they got together, though, they would end up having sex and not much else. Tyler loves her and wants to be together, but Liz is adamant that she wouldn’t leave her husband regardless of how she feels.
Tyler can’t talk to anyone about this and starts to lose it. Everything blows up at Shane and Emma’s wedding and the fallout is unexpected.
I feel like I need to start off by saying that I absolutely loved Imperfectly Perfect, which is book 1 in this series. It set high expectations for this series that I don’t think this book quite lived up to. I’m not sure how to describe Tyler. He was sexy selfless, but also frustrating. I know this kind of infidelity thing happens all the time, but this was one of the worst examples. This didn’t feel like a romance. We spent the ENTIRE book watching Tyler pine for a woman that pushed him away constantly. I’m sure there are people that find Liz likeable, but I wasn’t one of them. I get that she had a crazy mother and I also get that she had traumatic events that took place in her teens, but she tortured Tyler and she had options that she refused to take.
What made this story worthwhile: The gang. Like I said, I fell in love with them in book 1 and it carried over. Seeing more of the interaction, was the only thing that got me through this book. Everybody called Tyler out on his depressing attitude and seeing it was hilarious….especially the fake ‘while you were out’ cards. I want some of those.

Review: This is the second in the Series of Imperfections series, and it is about Tyler and Emma's sister, Liz, whom we briefly met in the first book. I already loved Tyler from the first book, when he was so supportive and non-judgmental as Emma and Shane muddled their way through figuring out their love for each other. Tyler is this big, somewhat bumbling, amazingly good-hearted guy, and you really want to see him find someone that is worth him...Which is why I struggled with about 80% of the book.
Liz comes to visit Emma and the guys out of the blue. Yes, they are all still living together, along with Emma and Shane's son, Felix. Liz, if you read the first book, is a carbon copy of Emma's mother - snooty, judgmental, seemingly perfect, etc. She comes to visit, though, and even Tyler can see that she appears to be broken. The just adorable, gooey chocolate, inside of Tyler that makes him amazing, works to help Liz - even at the expense of himself. Thus begins their secret relationship, though, different people slowly find out as the months move forward. I had trouble with this, since Tyler had been on the opposite side, along with Emma, when she had been cheated on. I don't think that is ever the answer, even if Liz's husband does end up being nowhere near a stellar guy.
Tyler and Liz slowly build on the memories and barely there relationship that they had in the past. For some reason, I had a difficult time really connecting to them. I wanted Tyler to find someone so badly, and I absolutely loved him. And...to be honest, once I knew Liz's story, my heart broke for her, too. I want her to find herself, and I want her to find happiness. I guess I'm not convinced, yet, that that includes one another. Their story is not over, yet, however, so I guess we will have to see what happens with them. Hopefully, they will make an appearance in Rob's story, because I need to know if they make it!

I wanna start by saying how much I loved Imperfectly Perfect. I bought these two books when they were on sale because the blurbs sounded good and they had good covers. That being said they are both worth every penny of their full price. A.E. Woodard writes great friendships, you really just want to be part of the gang. I read this book in one sitting falling both in love with Liz and Tyler and getting so mad at them at the same time.
Liz "half pint" has know Tyler for most of her life. He is her big sister, Emma's best friend and has always looked out for her. That is until he left for college and didn't come back. Liz used to follow Emma and Tyler around much to Emma's dismay but when they left for college she was all alone and quickly turned into her mother's idea of the perfect girl, pretty, sophisticated and even snobby. Liz can act the part but that is not who she really is. Liz is married but not in love, after a weekend with her sister in the city she is reunited with Tyler and soon realizes what all she has been missing out on.
This story does deal with infidelity, an issue in which I rarely like the characters involved. That being said the way A.E. Woodard deals with is beautifully written. Not only could I feel the pain in the two characters I found myself rooting for them but still understanding each side of the problem. I felt for Liz and Tyler so much and cannot wait for book three to come out so I can see how they develop as well as Rob's story.
As a whole I would recommend this series to anyone wanting a fun but still deep read about friendships that develop into more.
Imperfectly Real is the follow-up story to Imperfectly Perfect by A.E. Woodward. In this second book, we are now focusing on Tyler and his budding relationship with Emma's sister Elizabeth.
I gave this book four stars only because I loathed Elizabeth. I tried so hard to like her, but she just rubbed me the wrong way. LOL I felt like she was stringing Tyler along and I loved Tyler and wanted him with some else! :-)
The story itself is well written and is the perfect follow up.
While I realize that a story that touches on adultery isn't everyones cup of tea, I really did enjoy this book. I don't know if that is why I didn't like Elizabeth ...I suspect that is what made me not love her like I did the other characters.
"Love is a lot like finding a piece of sea glass that isn't quite ready," she'd say. "It's beautiful, but jagged around the edges. And sometimes you gotta throw it back so you have a chance of finding it again...when it's absolutely perfect."
Reviewed for Two Ordinary Girls and Their Books . Imperfectly Real by A.E. Woodward Tyler lives in New York with his best friends Emma, Shane and Rob. He spends his life flitting from one girl to another, with not a care in the world. After seeing Emma and Shane fall in love and start a family, Tyler starts to thing he wants the same and sets his sights on someone unavailable. Will Tyler manage to get his HEA? Or is he destined for heartbreak? This is the second book in the ‘Series of Imperfections’ series and is again a standalone. This book was just as good as the first and I really enjoyed it. However I was a bit disappointed with the ending so I hope I will be able to find out about what happens next in a future book. I cried a lot reading this book, there is genuine emotion coming off of Tyler at times and he really tugs at your heart strings. A great second book but only 4 out of 5 stars because of the ending.
As the saying goes, if you really love someone, set them free, if they return it was meant to be. This story reminds me of just this. Tyler realizes he always did love Liz, but she is married with a child now. When they meet up, he realizes how unhappy she really is. He also discovers she feels the same way about him. Tyler cones to terms that she has to make her own decisions, knowing her while life was dealt to her by her mother. He comes to terms with this, and sets her free. He only wants her to be happy and that is true love. While it may take months and months to even hear from her, his thoughts are still consumed of her. She has decisions to make and he is willing to give her the space she needs to really make herself happy. Some wise advice given to Tyler by his father that he will always keep close to him.......when something in life doesn't go right, then go left! WOW! Such an emotional series, but completely loving it!

I finally read the this series. This is Tyler and Liz's story. I thought this one would be a little better but actually frustrated me the most. I was always trying to find out why Liz was the way she was and new something must have happened to her. This book is about healing & making the right decisions. I am hoping we will here about them more in Robs story.
This book could have been 5 stars but the ending absolutely sucked!! I can't believe I spent all that time reading this book and that's how it ended!! So disappointed!! I'm hoping that we get a glimpse of what happened with Tyler & Liz in the next book!!! It really wasn't a cliffhanger the story just stopped???? I loved the first book in this series and actually enjoyed the majority of this book!! The characters were great and love how the author rounded off Shane & Emma's story. Guess I will wait til Series of Imperfections to see how the story goes!!
'you have to understand that things don't always work out the way you want them to. Things can't always be perfect. i mean this is real life after all'
it's true life can never be perfect. i like how the story ends.
when you love that person so much, you're willing to set them free so they can find their way back to you...
This is the second book in the series. This is Tyler's story and it's a great story. You hear about Shane & Emma, and of course, Rob, is always there stirring the pot. The next book is his story and I can't wait to read all about it.
Another great story! I loved how you got an update about all the characters, because some series of books don't do that as often. Looking forward to book three :)
Maybe it just me, but I subscribe to happy endings. I'll go through all the drama to get to that sweet candy coated last bite. This book definitely left a bitter taste in my mouth.
**** I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***
I was looking forward to reading this one as I had enjoyed the first book in the series Imperfectly perfect, which had been Emma and Shane’s story. It had been such a fun easy read, and the basis of the storyline of it had reminded me of one of my favorite shows New Girl.
Imperfectly Real is Tyler Johnston’ story, and one that I really enjoyed. I was surprised when I realized Tyler’s love interest was going to be Elizabeth, as I knew she was married, and therefore, any relationship that developed was not going to be drama or angst free.
“I can’t explain it, but when she’d walked back into my like she’d woken something in me that had been asleep for along time –longer than I’d like to remember”~ Tyler
But the moment I saw you, I remembered what it’s like to feel. Being near you brings out things I haven’t felt in a long time. I feel like a woman again. ~ Elizabeth
I liked Tyler, such a sweetheart he did frustrate me a few times, but for the most part I find myself feeling sorry for him as he was definitely fighting between his head, and his heart when it came to all things Elizabeth.
“Deep down I knew everything about this was wrong. But if it was wrong, why did it feel so right”~ Tyler
Elizabeth is Emma’s little sister. I wasn’t too sure about her at the start, she did annoyed me at times only because I didn’t like some of her decisions, but as her story started to unfolded, I could understand some of them. I felt sorry for her as I could see she had issues, and is far from happy with the way she had let her life turn out.
“I was living the life my mother wanted for me, the one she handpicked for me. I never stood a chance. I never even knew what I wanted for myself”~ Elizabeth
By the end she had definitely won me over, with the way she had grown to become a much stronger person, was making her own choices, and choosing the life she wanted.
I enjoyed the storyline, it was a quick easy read, which kept me guessing till the very end. Tyler and Elizabeth have some highs and lows, there is drama, and angst, but it was also entertaining, sweet, and funny. I’m not a fan of cheating (as you know) but because of their childhood friendship, their connection, and their chemistry I couldn’t help but root for Tyler and Elizabeth.
“I wonder if anyone else noticed the sparks between us, because they felt out of control to me”~ Tyler
I can’t sleep. I don’t know much, Tyler, but I do know that I can’t stay away from you” ~ Elizabeth
The story is mainly told in Tyler’s point of view which I really loved as it gave me an insight into his true feelings about Elizabeth. His struggles with his conscience about her being married, and how it could effect his friendship with Emma.
“Elizabeth was fire, and I was attracted to it like a moth- surely I would get burned” ~ Tyler
I like how A.E Woodward every so often added Elizabeth’s POV, it was always short, but their was an air of mystery about it, and I was very curious to find out what Elizabeth secret was, and my heart broke for Elizabeth when all was revealed.
Loved seeing Emma, Shane and Rob again I couldn’t really even call them secondary characters as they were such a big part of they story. You get to see what is happing in their lives especially Emma and Shane. What really comes across in this book, and the last is the friendship that Tyler, Emma, Shane, and Rob have. The banter and the interactions between them all were both funny and heart warming at times. Tyler, Emma, and Shane really have a special bond as they as they all grew up together.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, I’m becoming a fan of A.E. Woodward, and her characters. I like her writing style felt the story flowed well. It has an ending that you are going to love of hate, and personally I loved it as I felt it made sense to do it this way. I did smile to myself as I read the paragraph added after as it was like A.E know exactly what some of her readers would be thinking.
I can’t wait to read book 3 of this series, not only because at the end of Imperfectly Real A.E. Woodward gives you a sneak peek into Rob’s story “Imperfectly Bad’, but because I know that we will be getting more from Tyler, Elizabeth, Emma and Shane.
Definitely a series I recommend you add to your TRB list.
I love the Ty's story. It reminds me of so many not so happy ending love stories I know from experience of close to me people as also partially from my own experience. I felt the story is so real not too much complicated as some authors tend to over complicate things and not too simple that could be found boring. It was a quick read for me as it took me 2 days. I already purchased third part and I can't wait to read about Rob's story, a love that destroyed someone's live completely. Three books, three love stories and three different lessons.
Tyler's Story I was looking forward to reading the 2nd book in the series & I wasn't disappointed. I have to say that there were times that I wanted to smack Tyler on the back of his head & make him rethink his decisions, but I enjoyed reading Tyler's story & his journey to realizing that sometimes you have to love someone enough to let them go & hope they will love you enough to come back to you. I also loved being able to learn more about Shane & Emma's story throughout his book.
