Having seen the devastation of broken promises firsthand, Laureen Baker determines never to break a child's heart. She loves her job at Barnabas Home, a refuge for orphaned boys.
Pete Long also knows devastation specifically, the havoc wreaked on his uncle's family by the adoption of a troubled child. Pete's orders to his next-door neighbors, the kids of Barnabas Home: Keep out of my yard and my life.
But God works in mysterious ways, and before he knows it, Pete finds himself enjoying those boys and their beautiful supervisor. Will past hurts cause his feelings for Laureen to fade, or will the truth of God's love allow her and one special little boy to remain forever in his heart?

Linda Ford grew up devouring books and making up stories in her head—often late at night when she couldn't sleep. But she hadn't planned to write. Instead, she dreamed of running an orphanage. In a way, that dream came true. She married, had four homemade children, adopted ten and lived (at times, endured) the dream.
Writing first took her to non-fiction human-interest articles for newspapers and eventually a non-fiction book about tuberculosis set in the 1930s and 1940s (Touched By The White Plague). But romance had always been her first love and she turned to writing love stories. She is multi-published in the CBA market.
She lives on a small ranch in Alberta, Canada, where she can see the mountains every day. She and her husband continue to enjoy their children and grandchildren.
Wow, this author definitely had a great conflict to work with with both sides having such deep, reasonable viewpoints. How could it be resolved? But she did and very nicely. While it is a romance, that's not the main story all the way. I could not relate to the heroine' s desire to stay single for life, but she obviously changed.
Being a Nursery Nurse, this story was one after my own heart.
I was with Laureen all the way through as she believed in the boys, supported them and loved them with all her heart.
I am glad that Linda Ford told Pete's family's story, because sadly, those stories are out there. I guess it shows how much you need support system from family and also professionals when you foster/adopt to give advice when to keep going, when to say this child needs more help than we can give and also to remind you not neglect your own birth children.
Still, it was good that Kyler finally got his "forever family". I felt the emotions of Laureen, Pete, Kyler, Michael and Davey were all realistic and very well written.

“When you get to the end of your rope, let go. Underneath are the everlasting arms.”
The new neighbor doesn't want the children from the group home next door in his yard. So the staff try to keep them out of the yard, which has items little boys would find exciting. When the young lady, who is the supervisor of the home, goes after them only to meet the new neighbor. Finds him handsome, but her life has been the children in her care. One little guy, who has had a traumatic life. Shows interest in the new neighbor man. Things turn out differently than the man or lady expect. All because the little guy prays.
That was surely an awesome tear jerker. Pete (stay out of my yard) buys a house next to a group home for displaced kids. Kyler is a traumatized orphan who hasn’t spoken in 2 years. Laureen supervises the home and tries to keep the boys out of trouble. The story really touched my heart, and God had to be working overtime getting 3 hearts in the same place to feel the same way. Great heart warming ending too.
This is a wonderful tear-jerker of a story. Laureen doesn't change from the start, but the stay-out-of-my-yard neighbor goes through a few changes. Little Kyler does too.
This is a Christian story. The characters pray but live their faith more than talk about it. I really enjoyed this book.
This was a good book which I hated to put down. Lauren and Pete fell in love. They had a lot of things to work through. This story showed two views on how two people felt about adopting older children. Pete didn't feel he could accept the adoption of an older child. Lauren wanted to adopt Kyler who was almost six. They had to work through this problem before they could get married. I believe you will enjoy this book and how it works out. I loved the story.
