Just when Adam MacIntyre answered his true calling at last, putting down roots on his Colorado ranch, along came footloose Lisa Berthoff to turn things upside down. His siblings might have marched down the aisle with hers, but Adam wasn't about to fall for a drifter who didn't believe in God, or in settling down…
SISTER OF THE BRIDES
As a photojournalist, Lisa knew better than to let her personal feelings about a subject interfere with a job. But she couldn't seem to help herself. Not when the subject was rugged cowboy Adam and the feelings were…well, she wasn't quite sure what they were. That was the problem…
This is about a photojournalist, Lisa Berthoff and guest ranch owner, Adam MacIntyre. Lisa is sent to do a romantic get away article about this guest ranch for a magazine. A nice little romance story.
When I picked up “Rocky Mountain Valentine,” I didn't realize it was written by the same author I had a problem with a few books back. Carol Steward's other book, “Alex’s Choice,” written about one of the sisters in the triple series of books, was so poorly written, I could barely wade through it without my red pen at my side. The book looks like I bled on it. So when I noticed it was about the last sister in the series, I was prepare to grab my pen and geared up mentally to hate it.
Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised that this book by Carol was written much smoother and easier to read. Sometimes writers have off days. Maybe her last book was the result of one of those. "Rocky Mountain Valentine" found photojournalist, Lisa Berthoff on the way to the beach in search of warmth and relief from a busted relationship, when she's redirected to a dude ranch in Colorado—in the middle of winter. She is caught completely off guard when she learns the ranch belongs to the youngest brother of her two brother's-in-law. Fate? Misfortune?
Adam made a pact with his older brother to never marry. Well Alex broke that pact and married Lisa's older sister. At the wedding, Lisa accidentally caught the bouquet. They swore each other to silence. Now a year later, Lisa is at his ranch photographing his life and his love—his bed and breakfast—he’s in for some readjustment and rethinking. First off he finds she's easy on the eyes and easy to get along with. So he acts as if he isn't. He wants her gone before losing himself in her eyes.
The approaching Valentine’s party and B&B’s opening equipped with cupid has the opposite effect and they find solace in the winter in each other's arms. A dust-up with disaster and a near freezing death helps Lisa see Adam in a whole new light. He isn't anything like her ex, and that's what she loves about him. Loves? No. She needs a job. She needs independence. She needs to stand on her own two feet because men leave, just like her dad. But Adam is as solid as the mountains behind her back.
Carol Steward gives us the sweetest kind of love for Valentine's Day and Lisa and Adam find the forever kind. Lovely.
Photojournalist, Lisa Berthoff, is asked to give up the few days she had planned to view whales off the California coast to do an article about romantic getaways at a guest ranch outside Loveland, CO. Lisa's 2 sisters had already fallen in love with, and married, brothers in the same area. The third brother, Adam MacIntyre, turns out to be the owner of the guest ranch. Falling in love with him was just inevitable. This romance easily fits into the formula.
I like how short it was and how quick the chapters read. The emotions of the characters were confusing to follow since they were back and forth so much, even within the same paragraph. The plot didn't have enough of a conflict for me and at the end I was confused about whether or not the main character had accepted her editor's job and if the guest ranch was given to the cousin.
