Rhinos, Winos and Lunatics : The Legend of Man, a Rock'N'Roll Band
First issued in 1996, Rhinos, Winos & Lunatics has gained a reputation as one of the legendary on the road rock'n'roll travelogues. It tells the story of eight years in the life of rock band - Man , Wales' most durable musical exports. Guitarist, Deke Leonard writes with wit, verve and panache of the 1968-76, the post-'Sgt Pepper' years when rock music expanded its frontiers as never before. The result is a book that tells the story of an era, not just a band.

A real blast as rock n roll books go. I was not a fan of his band Man, but I love his stories about finding their place in the music scene of the early 70's. Deke is a colorful writer and he wordsmiths the accounts of debauch with humorous elegance. He provides great insight into the music business of the 70's. Where's Dave Edmunds book?

Join The Ride And The View.
Brilliant account of life in the road, Deke has a way of story telling that makes you feel as though you were actually there,. His delivery is witty and concise and offers a great insight into the struggles and highlights of the music business. Totally captivating read, weather your a player of listener or both, this is for you.

One of my favourite books, his prose is a joy to read. No prior knowledge of the Man Band needed, just a healthy disregard for literary convention.

Not enough about the music
Not enough about the music. Too much about drugs and girls.
(That’s probably the same reason why Man never achieved their true potential as a band)

Excellent read.
Deke Leonard is one of the more readable rock musicians for what was a truly progressive rock band of the 70's. A lot of the usual rock and roll mania and debauchery on the road, but also a lot interesting tales and encounters with characters both famous and infamous.
