Time-out for Murder

No doubt about it, it's a killer of a game. And a major league PR disaster for the NFL when Tomcats' quarterback Tim Duffy is found dead in the training room whirlpool. But it's a family matter for Ginger Barnes, mother and sometime-detective. She's been summoned to Norfolkl, Virginia, to help her pregnant counsin Michelle, whose husband is the Tomcats' starting quarterback--and potential prime suspect. Ginger is meddling in testosterone territory, far from home on Philadelphia's Main Line, as she tackles the case. Is it a crazy fan? Or an insider with a motive for murder...

Since real life doesn’t always end well, Donna Huston Murray makes sure her mysteries do. STRANGER DANGER, the third in her female sleuth, crime/thriller series was awarded the Global Book Awards’ Silver Medal for thrillers, and became a Finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards. The first two novels in the series each received Honorable Mention in genre fiction from Writer’s Digest..

The author’s Ginger Barnes cozy whodunits feature an amateur sleuth much like herself, a DIY headmaster's wife with a troubling interest in crime. The eighth, FOR BETTER OR WORSE, became a Finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards. Donna has also been inducted into her high school’s Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame.

When she isn’t plotting mayhem, Murray assumes she can fix anything until proven wrong, calls trash-picking recycling, and, even though she should know better by now, got a new puppy. Check her socials and you’ll understand.

Donna and husband, Hench, live in Gwynedd, PA, USA.

My first time reading this author. I want to carry on with the characters, as I miss family! I am amazed with most cozy writers' writing skills, this one being exceptional! I can relate to this sleuthy woman, maybe the football enthusiasts will too.

In A Score to Settle, amateur sleuth Gin Barnes solves another murder while supporting her extended family. Gin is a hard working amateur sleuth,. She painstakingly looks at the evidence and talks to people involved. Her process always intrigues me. Discounting the police theory of a crazed fan, Gin embeds herself in the Tomcat's family to seek out the killer. If you enjoy the process of looking at evidence and seeking the solution, this is a series you will enjoy. I highly recommend this well written mystery.

My fist book by Donna Huston Murray and although I don't know much about football the book kept me interested from start to finish. I only wish that my week hadn't been so busy and I could have just curled up on the sofa and read it cover to cover.

It's a pleasure to read a cozy mystery like this one with likable and realistic characters. You don't have to be a football fan to enjoy this book. It's been a few years since I read other books by this author, but now I'll be looking for more.
